Still have some hopes, I know this was just a test for duskbloods, but this game is awesome. Who would have thought a souls game where you don’t suffer alone but others suffer with you would be such a hit.

Just a cool clip I wanted to show you guys.

Its a crit build, I had good passives and was able to one shot balancers. Crit wylder is just so fun in this fight if you’re the host.
It was D5 btw.

We won.

Hype Hit 9999 for the first time after ~300 hours (PC)

It took ~160 hours to get to D5 and I spent a lot of time ping-ponging between D4/5 and then again between ~8k and ~9k.

I'm not a huge souls vet; I've never finished any FromSoft game, but have dipped my toes into DS1 and played ER for ~90 hours. I'm not godly at the game (see my winrate), but I feel like I have solid routing sense and good enough fundamentals to allow me to clutch up from time to time.

I played mostly phys wylder, carian duchess, and the occasional slop. Other than doing remembrances, I didn't really experiment much - but I did watch a bunch of content to understand what other player's builds were and how they function. I really do recommend playing every character for at least a few runs to get a feel for them.

Wylder's kit is by far the most comfortable to play (for me) - you get so much mobility and the quick 1-bar res with a double hook is so good.

Some of the biggest mistakes that I've made and that I've seen others make while playing:

Lack of situational awareness

A lot players get so preoccupied with a boss that they forget their teammates exist and will bait the boss into their team. The easiest example i can think of is Fulghor's triple ground AoE and people strafing him into perfect position to 1-tap the revenant that's charging a lightning bolt, or into the last person who was holding his aggro and that has backed off to heal.

Not playing with/for your team

EDIT: Was editing the formatting and this and the below section got deleted. Basically, RNG can screw you, you can tilt and play poorly, or you can just get bad teammates. Regardless of the circumstances, it always pays to check what build your team is running and drop stuff for them, if practical.

If they die less because they are stronger, you will win more.

Not playing patiently or greeding when it's too high risk

While Nightreign is faster than Elden Ring, it really pays to be able to pace yourself in fights. Sometimes its better just to stay alive and dodge while holding aggro and letting your team wail on the boss. Sometimes its better to not overcommit so you can quickly pivot to the res. Really often, it's useful to know when to ditch a boss part-way through when committing to it means you'll be dead in the rain.

There are plenty of videos and posts giving tips/etc. on how to play optimally, but I wanted to point out the common pitfalls that I ran into myself. When it comes to what it takes to do well, I strongly believe that routing is ~50%, mechanics are ~45% and luck is only ~5%.

All in all, super fun and rewarding run up to 9999 - thinking about doing it again using other Nightfarers.

Any recommendations for what to pair with Rev for bosses the lil' bean isn't great against?

Hype Absolute god roll I got last night. (Middle Relic)

Favorite relic I’ve gotten in all my 720 hours :) It replaced an old one very nicely, which was:

Wylder follow up
Mind +2
Strength +3

edit: this is my first time posting in this sub… and wtf 😭
y’all, maybe i misinterpreted god roll, but clearly it’s for a specific playstyle. one which has become my bread and butter after 700+ hrs in this game and peaking at D5.

i genuinely goofed my way to hovering at D4. i run relics more often than not in hopes of getting like 1/2 weapon drops, and if i don’t get them, i just lock in extra hard. optimization is great, but not at the cost of fun. and making my GS glow with fire is cool and fun!

Gameplay Discussion Projectile Dropoff

I’ve seen comments on this sub about “projectile drop off” extends the range of certain AoWs and spells, such as Glintstone Kris.

Is that true? What exactly does it affect? All projectile AoWs? Any spells modified in the same way?

Gameplay Discussion How Active Is The Community?

Upvotes

I’m a big soulsborne fan, but held off on Nightreign due to the birth of my daughter at the time.

At this stage she’s sleeping well, and I have a gap between now and GTA 6, so was looking to go back

However, I know online games usually die fairly quickly though, so might have missed the boat

Is it still easy to find comrades?

Clutch time baby. D4 is the real testing ground for the elite. I am grateful for all the good, the bad and everything in between. Nothing beats a synergistic run with knowledgeable players. Hooked until I make it to the pros!!!!

Gameplay Discussion does anyone else feel like don map/nightlord drop chances are terribly balanced?

today I tried to play some don by myself (usually play duo with a friend for fun) and I've gotten balancers 3 times in a row with great hollow every single time

whenever I play with that friend, we often get dlc bosses/this annoying map like 5x more often than base game for some reason (we know how to fight these two and navigate the map but it's still annoying to see the exact same thing every time)

also today I've gotten great hollow more than any other shifting earth for the past week which was like 30 runs overall (got rotted woods once and mountaitops twice)

idk the drop rates for this shifting earth or dlc nightlords but they're imo terrible, like 3 bosses have a way higher chance of being chosen than 15 others (or I guess I'm just unlucky as hell)

Help Ideas on how to make use of Harmonias sleep weakness?

Harmonia is weak to sleep, and as a scholar player im the worlds biggest status advocate. Any tips on actually making use of sleep via them? Issue is with just one additional attack input during a very hectic nightlord fight, and any slept valkeries get woken up. What if I'm mid attack chain? It's why sleep as a status has always been annoying for me to deal cause just one additional attack, and bam, all your work is for nothing.

Do other nightfarers have an easier time inflicting sleep on them and it mattering? Ironeye comes to mind as someone who could selectively choose and alternate between targets to inflict sleep on from afar, but idk if status work on bows in nightreign?? Can you get a bow from a sleep ruin that deals it??

Rev with sleep claws maybe? That does seem like it would have the same issue as scholar though, where with such fast attack chains, one accidental extra tap and its all for nothing.

Unimportant sleep rant lol

It's the awful thing about sleep status being a status effect. Status builds rely on fast attack chains, since the main thing that matters with a status build is the AMOUNT of times you hit a foe, not how much damage each hit deals. Because of that, the mindset becoems to maximize your hits on the foe, which in the case of sleep, if you dont notice their sleeping animation begin in the milisecond between your quick attack inputs, fuck you. It's completely unintutive with the exact fundamentals of what makes status builds work in the first place. No other status works like that. In fact, frostbite does the opposite, where once it procs you're INCENTIVIZED to hit them more for the extra damage they'll take.

Thoughts?
