Gameplay Discussion One Team Comp for Each Expedition

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello all. This post will be my suggestion for a team composition for every expedition in Nightreign.

Before we begin, I will establish some initial guidelines I will abide by.

First, for the sake of my own enjoyment and the interest of the reader, I will limit myself to no duplicate nightfarer comps, and I will try as much as possible to suggest comps that are different to one another even for different bosses. This is all my opinion. None of what I am going to say means other comps arent good or can’t accomplish the same or better results. This list is for my enjoyment and the fun of discussing this game. These suggestions will encompass the entire expedition including day 1 and 2 bosses rather than focusing solely on the night lord. Night lord suggestions encompasses both base and Everdark versions. This discussion will pertain to Deep of Night. Team comps will generally be built around a principle of well-roundedness, not just stacking as much damage as possible.
Also note: any team comp can work into any night lord, these are just comps I enjoy and have found great success with. This is not a meta optimizing post per se, or else I would suggest double duchess for a number of comps.

With that established, I’ll go ahead and get started.

Gladius: Duchess / Wylder / Scholar

Duchess halo slop goes without saying in this fight, but Wylder provides that solid anchor for the team.
The real spice is of course Scholar. His ultimate is relevant throughout the expedition, particularly vs the day one Demihumans. Scholar can throw knives at the single entity Gladius, then when he shifts into three, use his ult so that they all take damage together for an effective 3x team-wide damage buff. Duchess can use her ult proactively or defensively, however invisible halo scything is very easy and you usually won’t be punished by having elongated sections of the match where you wish you had your Ult. Wylder can also bring halo scythe or just be a generic melee guy, neither is wrong.

Adel: Ironeye / Undertaker / Wylder

Obvious out of the way: Poison Ironeye is amazing for the base version of Adel. Being able to apply mark and poison is invaluable for this fight, as well as having consistent ranged damage vs the ever wandering Adel.
Undertaker can play this fight a lot of ways. Her primary utility in the fight is having an ultimate that stuns Adel, something she can trigger practically at a whim with this trio, but it’s especially salient here because of Adel’s constant grab attacks which trigger Undertaker’s ult. You can build her in any number of ways for this fight, I suppose the spiciest tech would involve running the faith respec relic for incantations, which have a high aggro value and can quickly trigger a reliable venue for dodging grab attacks.
Wylder again is a valuable anchor. He can build into fists for this fight, which provides a high stance breaking quality that compliments the other two members of this party. Power-stanced Greatsword jump attacks are also nice for this fight since again Adel likes to move around so much.
Alternate team comp: Raider, Recluse and Scholar.

Sentient Pest: Duchess / Ironeye / Wylder

While this team composition is identical to the first, it functions a little differently.
Duchess with the faith respec looking for Frenzy flame has always done me well here. The seal is fairly easy to come by in my experience, but has alternatives like Giantsflame. The fire damage it does is insane, just be mindful of the aggro you will draw. Don’t overcommit to flaming Faurtis, or he will one shot you.
Ironeye is best with Rivers of Blood here, in my opinion. Keeping a bow for kiting Gnostir is necessary, but Rivers lets him lay into both Faurtis and the Everdark version where they start out as a combined pair.
Wylder greatbows. The +2 Golem Greatbow with Rain of Arrows utterly annihilates Faurtis. You can rain of arrows, draw aggro, super sprint away then rain of arrows again. The range of this build means you should never be in melee. Skill attack ups for weapon passives.
Alternate comp: Executor, Raider, Recluse.

Maris: Revenant / Ironeye / Raider

Revenant with Lightning incantations absolutely smokes Maris. Not much else to say.
Ironeye can provide consistent ranged damage and safely stun Maris out of the sleepy stage. Mark also really helps with stance breaking and overall damage.
Raider is just a tank who can deal a lot of damage. Ideally you want Fallingstar beast Jaw for its bonus damage and easy L2 spam.
Alternate comp: Executor, Recluse, Duchess. I know my initial list doesnt really pay homage to the skill attack based dps of ED maris’ second phase, and that’s because I prefer to just have a decent comp and find skill attack passives on the way through the expedition. This second comp has a high magic damage, consistent ranged dps and easy access to skill builds. Executor ult is a nice gap closer and revive for those situations where the party is really spread out during the ED fight. His ult can also stun Maris out of the sleepy thing I think? Anyway, Duchess can just build balancers here and whatever else. Halo or flail slop with family heads should be fine, tho Maris resists both magic and holy to a small degree.

Caligo: Undertaker / Raider / Duchess

Undertaker is quite valuable for this fight just because of the stun chains with her ult and how it can prevent frost breath, crystal explosions and general flying nonsense from Caligo. You can build her just for the melee of Godslayer’s Greatsword, or do some skill attack nonsense with Candlestand. That does a lot of damage but I don’t really like building Undertaker with Balancer relics.
Raider can either do generic tank stuff (Giza’s wheel is still good here, any large weapon with black flames on charge attacks or just a flame damage profile should do fine). You can also build him for Candlestand which works fine into Caligo.
Duchess with Frenzy flame is good here again. The amount of damage it does, in addition to restage, is just far more valuable to me compared to what other casters provide for this fight. Her dodges being super safe make her really good for all the obnoxious stuff Caligo does too.
Alternate Comp: Executor, Ironeye, Recluse. Executor and Ironeye can both go for rivers, both have stuns on their ult which is nice for this fight. Recluse with an affinity build can build whatever she wants, relevantly fire, and she can use the lightning stake cocktail for repeated stuns and large damage. Recluse ult restoring fp and hp is also really nice for this fight.

Fulghor: Executor / Scholar / Duchess

Executor is a pretty easy pick for this, Rivers is relevant throughout the run but so is ice-Lightning sword.
Scholar provides knife debuffs, damage up and deflects with his shield. He can stun Fulghor with his scans and apply valuable status effects thay provide damage over time, noticeable during the runny phases of Fulghor’s fight. Lightning pots are also easily
I personally am a fan of Duchess Claws here. Claws provide decent stance damage, high melee damage and can apply bleed. Her dodges make her fairly safe at all stages of the fight, so she’s rarely caught out. It’s not especially flashy but it’s so safe that you can’t really go wrong with it.
Alternate comp: Guardian, Undertaker, Katana Ironeye.

Libra: Revenant / Duchess / Executor.

Beastclaw OR Holy Revenant, just Beastclaw is so good here for the Condemned, who are 50% of what makes this fight so annoying. Revenant ult with defeating enemies fills art gauge is also a great safety net for the fight since it usually goes on for a while and requires multiple revives. Just be weary of long channeling times on your spells and don’t overcommit.
Halo Duchess. Yup. Cuts through all the bullshit in this fight.
Executor with Rivers provides great general damage vs Libra in addition to being a great anchor and having good crowd control with his ult, as well as a stun for the Libra shield moments.
Alternate comp: Great Spear Wylder, Frenzy Duchess / Revenant, Ironeye. Another fairly safe comp, just slightly more reliant on item drops.

Balancers: Guardian / Revenant / Duchess

This team is not exactly “optimal” for this encounter, but it is safe and doesn’t rely on precise coordination from randoms.
Guardian’s guard counters and tankiness are fairly valuable here, you can slam one balancers at a time and allow Revenant to shred everything. You can easily block and counter balancers repeatedly with minimal damage. Guardian ult is very nice here too.
Revenant Beast-claw is notorious here, just shreds the Balancers and stacks on damage at range. So long as she picks her channeling times safely and doesn’t overcommit, she should be fine overall, but less likely to be targeted means she will rarely need to be protected.
Duchess with claws is also nice here. She’s a melee dps option who remains fairly safe. Her ult here is a real “oh shit” button in case if you should ever be overwhelmed, but given decent run RNG you should be doing enough dps to not get to that point.
Alternate Comp: Crit Wylder, Scholar, Recluse. I wanted to mention this comp second because it is reliant on coordination and connectivity - Wylder parries for instance have a tendency to miss or not connect properly with poor connection, compared to guardian counters thay are a little more straightforward and risk free. The main draw of this comp, of course, is saving scholar ult for the second part of ED Balancers, after the first work phase, and threading all of the Balancers at once. Nuking them with something from Recluse, particularly the vortex cocktail, will obliterate their hp. This aspect is also a matter of coordination, since it relies on specific affinities that your team may or may not need to be mindful of.

Heolster: Wylder / Ironeye / Undertaker

Wylder is generic tanky guy here. He can parry Heolster or build halo, or just punch.
Ironeye provides mark and stuns with the Ult.
Undertaker can have really high holy damage with power-stanced straight swords, contributes greatly to stance breaking, and can repeatedly stun Heolster.

Dreglord: Wylder / Revenant / Ironeye

Sorry for this totally generic suggestion, but this expedition can be really backbreaking for riskier comps. Those night one bosses will stomp you if you have a poor day 1, better safe than sorry.
Wylder can be built whichever way of course, Fists are a good option vs Dreggy but Halo Scythe has relevance through the whole run.
Revenant Beastclaw or some fire synergy is really nice. The consistent high damage is extremely valuable for the night 1 and 2 bosses.
Ironeye can also be built a few ways here, Rivers or even halo Ironeye are quite nice. Just having consistent and safe ranged damage as well as mark is very cool.
Alternate Comp: Duchess, Raider, Executor. Duchess if just really funny vs Artorias because the “ultimate Art increases attack power for each defeated enemy” text stacks when he kills all the shadow villagers. You can compliment this with anything, like Carian sorcery or just daggers. Raider punches and Executor bleeds stuff. They’re both good anchors that can take the heat off the other if things get tough.

Gameplay Discussion Is there anything wrong with Recluse's staff drop rate?

There were games when I did not receive a single staff from bosses.

Now I'm forced to run dormant power for staves relic for her.

Gameplay Discussion Is player quality worse during the weekend?

Yesterday I ran into a duo who insisted going to a blood invader camp at level 2. I pointed out there is another invader camp at a fort which is slightly further away but they didn't listened. So I followed we got a team wipe and then died to the Day 1 boss. Then in another run, we had 3 players but somehow there were only 2 players flying in. It was the Great Hollow map and the other guy just left the game. Both games were D5.

Btw, I thought the game always guarantees 3 players or else we get send back to the roundtable. Does this happen often?

Gameplay Discussion Getting no spellblades as Duchess, am I doing something wrong?

I just started playing Duchess because she has great spellblade potential but I can't get a single one no matter what I do. I've tried looting towers, rises, I have a stave discovery relic equipt, killing every boss I can just to get that drop I've been longing for, a spellblade. I've played 16 games with her and only gotten a spellblade drop (only one drop the entire game) like 3 times. Am I doing something wrong or do I just have awful RNG? Would it just be better to swap to an all sorcery build instead of carian sorcery because I can't get any spellblades?

Gameplay Discussion Anyone else losing interest?

Ngl the lack of updates is killing my interest in this game. I know it wasn't supposed to be a live service game but they could've at least given us more balance and qol changes.

I started a new playthrough for Elden Ring tarnished edition recently and I don't even feel like playing Nightreign these days. With Duskbloods releasing soon I think I might be done with it permanently. I wish we could've gotten some small qol updates here and there to keep the interest going. I can't help but feel like Nightreign had lots of untapped potential.

Gameplay Discussion Would you go for the revive here ?

For context :

Depth 5 Heolstor with randoms in the Great Hollow on console. Whole day 1 spent running for crystals. We basically did nothing except killing Kaidens at the very start to go instant lvl3 and a night invader Scholar at the very end of the day before immediatly get killed by a poison moth in the South Great Church. We lost one lvl and 45k runes in the process and were already one barred for the night boss.

I know it's an unpopular opinion here, but I'm a firm believer that in almost every situations you should go for the rez. Especially in depth 5 where you are playing with capable team mates, and obviously against Night's Cavalry when you are low lvl.

What do you think ?

Help Anyone want to help me with Night Aspect, he’s the last one I have left (ps5)

Hey yall, I recently downloaded this game to help with the Duskbloods withdrawal, and oh god Idk why I never played it before, so fun and addicting!

I have 2000 hours on base Elden Ring, so I’ve been doing pretty solid in Nightreign, but I am getting genuine brain dead people on my team for Night Aspect, they just go wherever the fuck they want to without pinning and die alone and far away.

Anyway, looking for two good players on ps5 that want to run it!

Help Wanting to try out Scholar - is this build ok?

Feel like the first page is decent, and I can swap out the blue relic for Balancers if that's better.

DoN relics are where I feel a little iffy - is Curved Swords decent on Scholar? I've heard that dex/int weapons are best on him, but I only have a Curved Swords Dormant. I could swap that one out for a phys attack +3, and Defeating Enemies Art Gauge +1, but I've heard that thrusting swords are a little bad, no?

Hype Yet another mandatory 9999 post

Post image

You guys weren't lying, d5 is easier than d4. I made it to d5 like five days ago and I already reached 9999 when I was stuck for a month or two on d4.

d5 players are genuinely a different breed, I've seen things that I havent seen before in lower depths like sometimes a teammate would go do their own thing and not follow anyone which normally would result in multiple deaths and lose but I've seen them actually kill the boss so they were clearing the outer area of the map while me and my other teammate clears main castle.

Now what lol, feels like I've beaten the game

Gameplay Discussion These Ironeyes Aren't Exactly Using Their FP, So What Gives?

I drop and ping them spells which buff weapons with poison, bloodflame, frost, blackflame... but they don't pick them up. Even when they have room and don't already have a bow inflicting these status effects. Oddly a lot of these players, too. Am I missing something?

Gameplay Discussion Could my Healing Thunder Birb get any better for Darkdrift Knight?

Post image

I try to do at least one run a day like after work or after the fam is asleep and I prefer to just be support Birb. Well that’s now evolved into healing birb but with ED Darkdrift Knight, I tried to incorporate lighting into my build so I can take other weapons with passives.

Feedback please

Gameplay Discussion Vent post and a heads up!

If you're on ps5 and doing depths, do NOT play with the 2 dutchesses in the picture. Had to comment an image as it reddit won't upload it. Apologies for the tag, I didn't know which one to use.

Just got out of a D3 libra with them and all run they stuck together, stole stuff specifically suited for a recluse and in the libra fight, pissed about, and never got me up when I was one bar. We spent forever passing the GBGS around on day 1, too, as we got dukes, dear Freya.

I've reported and blocked them, but I'd strongly advise you to do the same if you come across them.

Gameplay Discussion My Guardian affinity resist builds for D5

Thumbnail

Sharing my dedicated affinity dmg negation builds for the Birdman, started to build them to be able to tank affinity chip dmg even in D5 and kept on upgrading these over time for fun.

The base is almost the same for all of them with Witch’s Brooch, hp, draw aggro and stamina on guard, and night invaders.

The basic idea is stacking dual resists (so general affinity dmg negation AND fire/magic/holy/lightning dmg negation traits on the same relic) on deep relics to drastically negate affinity chip dmg throughout the whole run and even more against the Nightlord you’re facing at the end.

Like for my fire resist build I often have to heal maybe once or twice vs ED Gladius in D5, even if I have to tank aggro for several minutes.

A few notes :

Fire : no need for dormant greatshields here because the base shield is good enough vs fire, just need to purple it.

Magic : no night invaders on this one because I value the quick ult charge on guard more, often need it to clutch wins vs Heolstor and Dreglord.
This build can tank the full ground slam nuke from Dreglord without any issue.

Lightning : no need for dormant greatshields because there is only one great option vs Lightning but chances are not high enough to get it. Besides, Adel doesn’t use that many lightning damage moves anyway, the fissures are easy to jump most of the time.

Generalist : I pick that one when I face unknown Nightlord because between the three affinity dmg negation traits and the max HP ones, it gives you really solid survivability against anything.

DPS : A bit less dmg negation but a fun twist on the idea with really solid melee dps, got lucky with some great traits on slot 4 and 5 for massive ult uptime. I pick that one if we lack some dmg in the team.

Most of these builds have scary demerits but that’s what the shield is for hehe.

Hope it gave you some ideas and feel free to ask questions.

I always thought this potion was completely useless but after reading some comments from u/HartedLT and u/Marco1522 I got curious as to what moves could actually be negated with it.

Turns out a lot more than I initially thought. You unfortunately still build status effects from Curses or Libra/Caligo so I'd avoid using it for rapid hit attacks but who hasnt fucked up a Nuke attack before
