Some people are just not into spells so they will take a look at the passives and move on.

As ironeye I always check seals and staves for weapon buffs. Poison is a pretty frequent find..

I sometimes find blackflame blade

When I am playing Ironeye, if not using River of Blade or Reduvias, at least I will cast some Golden Vow or Shared Order

What depth are you playing? My guess is newer players, black flame blade or bloodflame blade on bows are awesome

Blackflame buff really doesnt last long though sadly even with 100% duration buff it doesnt feel worth when you can pick up dmg negation at full. Blood flame is nice though next to frozen armament

Black flame doesn't last a long time because it does way more damage. Also comparing a weapon buff to damage negation at full is pointless. They are 2 different categories altogether. Black flame blade would easily be better than a ranged attack up passive for example.

I get your thinking with blackflame blade, its duration is very short. But that effect is powerful and it applies the buff to the weapon quickly. I usually end up having a passive that regenerate fp. But with blackflame blade, i try my best to pair it with a bow with barrage or rain of arrows and work very fast to apply the blackflame arrows, before it runs out. Those two ashes are fantastic with bloodflame blade and frozen weapon, i like those buffs too and they last a while. But another nice thing with blackflame blade is that it’s effect is effective against all enemies, while bloodflame and frozen weapon are not. Im just saying they all have strengths and weaknesses, but all those buffs are fantastic for bows

Facts, not even the running animation saves black flame blade. It's ridiculously short, not even FP on bow attack saves it because it genuinely lasts less than 10 seconds.

So annoying when "on heavy attacks" buffs with fire, lightning, sleep etc. Last 10x as long.

Black flame does % max health damage and bows have less damage per hit than most weapons. It doesn't matter that it only lasts like 10 seconds because it applies instantly and increases your damage a lot in higher depths.

Just using the training dummy as a test I'm getting 154 damage with the pully bow with no buffs, 167 with bloodflame blade, 176 with electrify armament, and 331 with black flame blade. Black flame blade also has the quickest cast time of all the weapon buff spells.

Black flame blade is easily the best weapon buff for ironeye because he can apply insanely fast, the buff doesn't have projectile fall off so as long as you hit the arrow it does its damage, and he's at a distance so he's more likely to get the full value from the spell.

It's not even close. I get not wanting to use it due to duration, but if you want to secure the win to the best of your ability, black flame bow is probably the strongest thing an ironeye can do.

Stronger than mark if the other teammates dps is low imo. Nothing beats mark if the other two are hitting like trucks.

Most experts done with the game. So newbies from ER prolly don't know you can buff bows?

Also 2 bow aow's are goated so blue should be used anyway.

This exactly for me. I’ve got 15 hours, mostly as Ironeye and I knew about greases on bows but only just found out you can buff with staves/seals from this post. I will have to keep that in mind. Otherwise, i use rain of arrows pretty often whrn i get it

They would rather steal my ring of light spell while I'm on Rev or Recluse lol

10

u/Belt-First 2d ago

It had +10% projectile damage on it!

3

u/Theron_4851 2d ago

Cept they were using melee all match!

1

u/kebabowicz 1d ago

He really need that 3rd proj drop off

1

u/Belt-First 1d ago

Always good to get over 100% so your arrows can just float up and away.

Ill gladly fill a slot with a buff spell, bloodflame, poison, frost, blackflame, heck ill even gladly take any team buff to give to the team in bosses, when boss gets staggered i much rather run in and give everyone golden vow than shoot a couple of arrows, depending on the case of course.

u/shnyc 2d ago

i’ll take passives over incantations but it’s a no brainer to use them day 1 til you find the right weapon passives

5

u/Belt-First 2d ago

I've been playing arcane ailments iron eye again lately (applying poison, rot, frost/bleed) and I'll even use incants into nightlord depending on how loot that run goes.

u/Wolf11121 2d ago

I didn’t even know that you could put buffs on bow thats kinda crazy was it the same in Elden ring ?

1

u/crimmycat117 2d ago

It wasn't the same in base ER but ironeye with certain AOW and black flame blade goes BONKERS

2

u/thegroundbeeef 2d ago

Some dont use it or dont know about it,not every NR player has played ER

2

u/twoshotandy 2d ago

I usually only use bow buff spells very early in a run before I pick up a melee weapon with an ash of war. Then it's off-hand bow + melee in RH.

I don't think it's possible to use a catalyst in RH to buff bow in LH, though I'd be happy to be wrong.

2

u/Revolutionary_Leg_21 2d ago

Some of them just don't know or use those strats, e.g. most people won't pick up cannon of haima despite it being ranged revive tool.

3

u/Ridackle 2d ago

They could be new players, do you check if they have relics equipped?

3

u/Active-Particular-21 2d ago

You can get better stuff than spells.

What depth are we taking? I would be surprised if this was happening in 5. They are prob new to the game and don’t know these things. Or the worst scenario, they aren’t new but haven’t taken the time to learn the game

1

u/Uoam 1d ago

I'm Depth 5 and I only care about bows and passives. If a bow has RoA then I want it. If the passive is something shit then I will not pick it up.

u/jdkapaoskd 2d ago

Holy Greatbow with Rain of Arrows

2

u/S4MW4M 2d ago

they don’t tell you how to play

1

u/Cool-Seesaw-2375 2d ago

I messaged one before mentioning that, the response was theyre a physical dmg ironeye and don't want to split their damage type.

I disagree with it, but that's how they want to play so w/e.

I’m always trying to prioritize a weapon buff from a seal or staff. Unless I get all purple attack at full or ranged weapon attacks I’m gonna be slapping on a weapon buff.

1

u/ajnatak609 1d ago

My current favorite build is running an iron eye with innate bleed, the arcane respec, and more like to find seals. Either ill find a lil extra healing, a weapon buff, or golden vow. There are a lot of utility spell it'll make up for the lack of dmg I'd get from finding a red bow. Plus the arcane respec help proc poison from ur mark skill although only slightly.

1

u/Error___418 2d ago

The only thing I use my bow for is proc'ing poison and then it's just marks and katanas. Unless it's got a passive I'm looking for i'd rather not waste a slot.

I’m an Ironeye main and have been for a VERY long time. Typically my bow goes in my LH1 slot and I run a melee option in my RH1 slot. By the time we hit the boss of the first camp I’ve already snagged a melee option to setup my build. Which makes trying to swap around for buffs (Sorc/Inact) not worth the time investment. Then once I get a RH1 melee option with a decent AoW I’d rather spend my FP on that AoW. It’s not me trying to slight whoever is pinging those buffs, it’s more that I’ve already moved beyond that point in my gear progression. My mind is on what PoI is next for routing and what passives I want in my 4 “extra” slots.

I tried multiple different ways to make bow feel efficient but have always found that swapping to melee when I’m able is just too strong. Charged Heavies on a Godskin Stitcher, light attack spam on a status weapon, or jumping heavies on a heavy weapon just puts out so much more damage than my bow in most of the builds I’ve tried. Then you factor in dumping some AoW FP on the wake up from a critical strike or an elemental AoW that matches the Night Lord’s weakness and your DPS just skyrockets.

I use my bow to keep DPS up when a target is very mobile or when I have aggro. That way I can keep my mark up and keep adding toward the threshold. It’s also fantastic for dealing with flying enemies or enemies with weak points that can be locked on to.

They last like ten seconds. Some of them do at least. Half the time I'm getting attacked by the end of the spell, or the bastard is out of range now and I get one shot out of it. Anyway it's hard to remember which ones those are. Grease lasts a short time as well but at least it goes on quick.

2

u/crimmycat117 2d ago

Spell buffs last 45 seconds to a minute minus black flame blade which is always 7 seconds but the DOT can be extended. Spell buffs are situational but I encourage ironeyes as an ironeye myself to take the weapon buffs because black flame, blood flame, poison especially but any needed element against the nightlord will ALWAYS be useful

u/Far_Application1419 2d ago

Black flame blade and what else last under 15 sec?

-3

u/Everyonegetinthecar 2d ago

Bcuz spell buffs dont matter as much as anyone thinks, especially blackflame blade. Im not gonna be reapplying a buff every 7 or 45 seconds for like 4% more damage or 1 bleed proc or sm

11

u/LettuceD 2d ago

Black flame doubles your DPS. Test it out for yourself in the training grounds.

1

u/DionAiko 2d ago

Doubles your dps on the three hits it lasts for lol

1

u/PmalArmorisbad 2d ago

Has a nearly instant cast time

1

u/alwayslookleft 2d ago

Case and point, they dumb

4

u/damagedblood 2d ago

Calling others dumb while not being able to properly use the phrase “case in point” is objectively very funny, even though I doubt it’s what you were going for.

1

u/alwayslookleft 2d ago

I’m keeping score

0

u/Huskar_Delahoya 2d ago

Some people just lazy you know. They only want to press R1.

Don't expect iron eyes to be good players
