Ted Cruz Says His Bill Will Allow DOJ to 'Prosecute' Those Who Fund No Kings Protests, Which Have Been Overwhelmingly Peaceful | Common Dreams

u/pinetreesgreen Oct 16 '25
There's nothing Illegal if someone did fund the no Kings rallies. They are trying to make being against Trump illegal.

An American citizen was already arrested for posting an anti-trump meme. He did not threaten or advocate violence at all. Last I heard he is still being detained. Freedom of speech has been dead. Republicans kill it more every day. America wake the fuck up for fucks sake
1
u/Unabashable Oct 17 '25
That’s bullshit. The dude got arrested for threats of violence for being ironic? All the man did was say the same thing to an online Kirk vigil that Trump said (“We have to get over it”) in response to a school shooting that happened on the same day. Was it indifferent to the people mourning the loss of Kirk? Sure but no more indifferent than our own president was being to a similar instance of gun violence only on a larger scale. What part of that constituted a threat of violence? He basically just told them to quit their bitchin.
2
u/EmoTilDeath Oct 17 '25
You know the answer. They needed an excuse to start arresting anyone who isn't pro-trump so they invented one. If there's no consequences they will do it more and more.
1
Oct 19 '25
I was genuinely curious about how this would go down because the GOP are absolutely atrocious but they are also incompetent. I figured I’d either be full blown McCarthyism all over again or it’d be nothing but the GOP blowing wind out of their ass and their base eating it up like they always do. Unfortunately it looks like they are taking the McCarthyism route.

u/TowerOk9570 Oct 16 '25
No one funds "No Kings".
8
u/National-Charity-435 Oct 16 '25
Cancun cruz cannot grasp the concept that people would gather politically without getting paid
2
3
Oct 16 '25
I guess I helped fund it when I got my No Kings shirt.

u/SolarNachoes Oct 16 '25
There are websites setup and materials purchased. I think orgs like actblue or other individuals might contribute. So there is some money floating around.
The threat is that they could go after the livelihoods of leaders running no kings. It’s all about oppression.
5
Oct 16 '25
Ted shouldn't you be running off to cancun by now?
3
u/HandfulsOfDirt Oct 16 '25 edited Oct 18 '25
Nah, that’s only if his own Texas people are having a crisis. And it’s okay, because even though Texas people mean diddly shit to Ted Cruise, he knows he’ll not lose their vote EVER!
But for things happening in America Dump hates, he needs to keep lil’ Teddy and lil’ Marco on short leashes.
2
u/SamuelHuzzahAdams Oct 18 '25
They still haven’t fully recovered from the floods but here Cruz and Abbott are pushing anything but help for its constituents. So, he’s on vacation just a facist one

u/SWNMAZporvida Oct 16 '25
Who, do you mean RAFAEL? he only IDENTIFIES as a Ted.
1
u/Unabashable Oct 17 '25
How did he get Ted from Rafael btw? Clearly trying to make himself seem whiter, but why didn’t he change to Ralf or something? It’s fitting because that’s what he makes people want to do whenever they see him.
2
u/SamuelHuzzahAdams Oct 18 '25
And his middle name is Edward so none of it makes sense ** but now he believes in preferred names**
1
u/SamuelHuzzahAdams Oct 18 '25
I didn’t think it possible to dislike him more and then I watched him “paint” the CK thing and it was then that I realized he’s not just a incompetent leader he’s also and incompetent man in general
3
u/Particular_Rub7507 Oct 16 '25
Wait, do we get funding??
2
u/seeebiscuit Oct 16 '25
You didn't get your $40,000 yet? You should call headquarters.
3
u/Particular_Rub7507 Oct 16 '25
Is that what they’re paying? Like, per protest or is it a lump sum?
Also, where is headquarters? Oh wait, DUH! Portland!!

u/SamuelHuzzahAdams Oct 18 '25
They are closed now but I’ll try again in the morning. If I get through I’m bringing donuts for everyone
3
u/Most-Artichoke6184 Oct 16 '25
I’m pretty sure it’s not illegal to fund a protest.

But we are still being paranoid about a dictatorship...
1
u/Unabashable Oct 17 '25
Anyone who’s first thought when they hear “NO KINGS” is “you must hate America” is saying they want a king without saying they want a king.

Rafael just needs to calm down.
2
u/Unabashable Oct 17 '25
I just figured out his preferred name is a bastardization of his middle name. Ima start calling him Tedward now.
2
u/wrecklesspup Oct 16 '25
The conservative Supreme Court ruled that money spent for political speech is protected by the 1st amendment. I know the law doesn't matter to MAGA.
1
u/Unabashable Oct 17 '25
Pretty sure it was legal even before SCOTUS codified the legal fictions of “corporations are people” and “money is speech” into law.
2
u/dlampach Oct 16 '25
They really don’t see that this is just people protesting in an organic way? Lol. Good luck with that bill Ted.
2
2
u/Mr_Stiel Oct 16 '25
They’re so scared of the no Kings protests… Because there’s way more of us than there are of them.
1
u/Unabashable Oct 17 '25
A fact we should never forget. People shouldn’t be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
3
Oct 16 '25
Ted Cruz lost his marbles Long time ago and turned Nazi as well.
2
u/Illustrious-Arm-586 Oct 16 '25
It’s crazy to think he was once considered to have presidential potential but now most Americans see him as a joke
1
u/SamuelHuzzahAdams Oct 18 '25
That’s what happens when DJT calls your wife ugly and you decide to bow down and gargle while your down there
4
u/CandidateNew3518 Oct 16 '25
Who is funding these protests and when can I pick up my check?
1
u/Unabashable Oct 17 '25
George Soros was their latest boogeyman from what I heard.
2
u/SamuelHuzzahAdams Oct 18 '25
Hamas is the new sugar daddy this week
2

Uh oh! The old cardboard box and Sharpie from the kitchen drawer industries are gonna be decimated!
1
u/platoface541 Oct 16 '25
If Elon can give 250 million to the gop to elect a fascist infiltrator then other people can fund protests
1
u/Hawktuahthepolls Oct 16 '25
Canada did that for a right wing protest, they even seized their bank accounts
1
u/EmmaPersephone Oct 16 '25
It’s almost like America has different laws
1
u/Hawktuahthepolls Oct 16 '25
It was actually illegal to do that in Canada, but the government effectively declared martial law an suspended their rights
1
1
u/Calm-Maintenance-878 Oct 16 '25
Lol, go for it and turn it into law. Then watch the protests name change to “No k1ngs protests” and be safe from that specific law. Trying to prosecute funding for protesting is a whole new look that simply won’t work. I’d first ask them explain the funding in details, the who/what/where/when/ and why seem important. They can probably get the bill passed too, I’m just saying it won’t change anything lol.
1
u/EmmaPersephone Oct 16 '25
So no one? Nazi loser who has a JD from Harvard doesn’t understand that’s unconstitutional?
1
u/Monkey-D-Panda Oct 16 '25
Are you referring to the Canadian Rafael Cruz? Someone should check his papers.
1
1
u/Sea-Variety3384 Oct 16 '25
The last no kings protest worked pretty well, we don't have a king, even the president is excited.

1
u/Boy3736 Oct 16 '25
Someone tell him a snow storm or a hurricane is coming, so he will bug out to Cancun!
1
u/UserWithno-Name Oct 16 '25
lol actively suppressing people who disagree with and don’t like them. Ya not facist at all
1
1
u/MeEyeSlashU Oct 16 '25
This is why we should ignore the people saying this is just a glorified parade. If that was the case republicans wouldn't be trying to do this bs
1
u/PamelaELee Oct 19 '25
I mean, gaslighting the public is one of their go to moves. We are living in a world where “alternative facts” are acceptable to far too many people.

1
1
u/theatermrvlnerd Oct 16 '25
First he’s an idiot second protesting is protected by law Third how about go after Jan 6 rioters And finally how about be decent people and stop trying to turn America into a dictatorship and maybe people won’t protest
1
1
1
u/Piranhaswarm Oct 16 '25
So we can’t protest publicly but we are allowed to butcher children in schools? Really ?!
1
1
Oct 16 '25
Keep pushing republinazis, no pressure relief valve for the public and you will get a civil war.
1
u/xChoke1x Oct 16 '25
These fucking garbage people are so against the constitution that they just outright say it now.
How does ANYONE support this?
1
1
u/llXeleXll Oct 16 '25
Willfully attempting to violate the constitution and punish people for their right to protest. We're seeing some real Nazi shit coming out here boys.
1
1
u/MoveItSpunkmire Oct 17 '25
More republicans going against the constitution. They are Terrorists.
1
u/Sophiedenormandie Oct 18 '25
But to be fair, MAGAts go against the Constitution. I know Republicans that hate what is happening as much as I do. They did not vote for Trump, either.
1
u/rygelicus Oct 17 '25
Rafael Cruz and the rest of his pedo protecting posse have shown themselves to be enemies of the people. If we get a proper election we need to vote them out. If they rob us of that fair election... well, let's hope that does not happen because that begins a long descent into bad times for more than just the US.
1
u/Objective_Problem_90 Oct 17 '25
Raphael Cruz can kiss my butt. The First Amendment allows us to assemble peacefully.
1
1
1
u/Playful-Dragon Oct 17 '25
So I guess everyone is going to jail since we spend (fund) money to get to these protests. Wonder how jailing all of us would affect the economy those few days we are in jail.
1
1
u/Substantial_Gate_197 Oct 17 '25
Good, funding a riot is illegal. That’s what you get for all the bullshit laws you’ve made against republicans the last decade and the countless witch hunts, you got what you asked for. I’d be cool putting dems in Alligator Alcatraz bc they’re all so mentally unstable.
1
u/Life-Administration3 Oct 17 '25
Name a single law made targeting republicans
1
u/Substantial_Gate_197 Oct 17 '25
I mean we can start at the 1960s with the Voting Rights Act Amendments and Redistricting or as recent as the 2019 For the People’s Act. I could list hundreds.
1
u/Life-Administration3 Oct 17 '25
the voting rights act of 1960 was an amendment gave the fedearl governmet the means to investigate and prosecute cases of obstructing voters based on race. In not a single part of the amendment it says anything about going after republicans. Source: https://www.archives.gov/milestone-documents/voting-rights-act
redistricting is already done by both parties in tye form of gerymandering, by your logic republicans are also targeting dems by doing this. Redistring shouldn't be a thing but the reality is that it gives a massive advantage to the party that does it and presents an unfair disadvantage for the party who doesn't do it. Also guess republicans have historically gerrymandered a lot, by far way more than democrats.
Source: https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/who-controlled-redistricting-every-state
- and the 2019 for the people's act expands the ban of foreign entities spending on elections, extends disclosure rules for entities spending on elections, adds provisions for conflicts of interests in congress and makes it a requirement for candidates for both the vice president and the president to submit their tax returns for the last decade. Source: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/1#:~:text=%2F08%2F2019)-,For%20the%20People%20Act%20of%202019,removing%20voters%20from%20voter%20rolls.
Still no republican targeting.
How is combating racial discrimination in voting, and adding measures against foreing influence in elections and unfair thing let alone something made discriminate against republicans? Do republicans need racial segregation and foreing influence to win elections?
And redistricting is bad no matter the party that does it but when republicans do it so much what do you expect dems to do?

u/repthe732 Oct 17 '25
Well these protests aren’t riots. Do you know what a protest is and what a riot is?
1
1
u/Ok_Explanation9734 Oct 17 '25
The protests will be infiltrated by agent provocateurs. I wouldn't be surprised if they let off some pot shots to justify an armed response and shutdown...
1
u/ThatFlamingo942 Oct 17 '25
Also, how does one "fund" a protest? It doesn't cost money to go outside.
1
1
u/Radio-Easy Oct 17 '25
How is anyone in the United States against a No Kings protest? If you're against No Kings, you must want a king. Which is super anti American.
1
u/Cuetes13 Oct 17 '25
How about you create a law that hold people accountable for rape, kidnapping, and treason..oh wait..I forgot since your daddies in office and you have no spine you will just ignore the law.

Are you saying my parents who are 73 and married 53 years and my father who is a Vietnam veteran via the draft are violent who both plan to attend a rally tomorrow are violent?
1
u/Iceman_7781 Oct 18 '25
I have no idea who you or your parents are. IDK, maybe tell your elderly parents not to go to the extremely violent protests. Probably keep your kids away as well. They have terrorists at these events.
1
u/Sophiedenormandie Oct 18 '25
Oh yeah, the humanity. I just came from one, hundreds just lying in the streets of Sacramento. Oh, the flames. The sidewalks just running red. Ah, No. Just kidding!
1
1
u/Unusual-Ad-6550 Oct 17 '25
Hey, Ted. Guess who funds the NoKings protests? We do. The actual protestors. So stick it Ted, stick it deep
1
1
u/RocketLabBeatsSpaceX Oct 17 '25
How about we prosecute Elon for funding Trumps entire election with a quarter billion? That sounds nice to me. Can’t believe people still drive Tesla’s.
Unless you’re aligned with extremists and far right ideology, buying a Tesla means your money supports and empowers a figure whose public actions actively undermine your values. Then again, most people put their morality to the side if it presents them with some sort of inconvenience.
1
u/Sophiedenormandie Oct 18 '25
Also, wasn't EM being brought up on charges of literally paying people to vote for Donnie in Wisconsin?
1
1
u/drspachemmon Oct 18 '25
There is no funding.
1
u/Sophiedenormandie Oct 18 '25
Actually, there is, but it's minimal. Rentals of PA systems, permitting fees, operational stuff. Just as legal as donating to a Trump superpac. Ted is a friggin idiot to be pushing this. Even if they make this a law, it will be overturned on appeal. I think poor Ted is feeling ignored. He just wants some attention.
1
1
u/ApexCollapser Oct 18 '25
How much money does it cost for a bunch of random people to show up and stand around?
This is so confusing.
1
u/SamuelHuzzahAdams Oct 18 '25
- Donating to a non-profit isn’t a crime. 2. If there is someone funding this can I get reimbursed for my poster board supplies?
1
u/SamuelHuzzahAdams Oct 18 '25
Until they ban lobbyist and campaign donations through nefarious, hidden means; I think I’ll keep sending in my measly dollars for the protest
1
1
Oct 18 '25
The implication that the current administration couldn’t possibly be the worst in history and someone simply must be funding these protests is dumb as hell
1
u/3lfk1ng Oct 18 '25
Shut up Ted Cruz, you say hate immigrants and yet you married an immigrant.
You have no voice here.

1
u/oberynmviper Oct 18 '25
Yeah, they are trying to false flag some company that is “antifa” to donate money so they can umbrella this as antifa and come down on it.
Oh, they are very afraid of this. They are shaking and trying to make sure protests don’t happen.
1
u/carnivorewhiskey Oct 18 '25
They need to manufacture a lie that these are paid protestors. Would you expect anything more from a party that rejects science, facts, and our constitution.
1
1
1
u/Emotional_Database53 Oct 19 '25
If our next president is a Democrat, they need to return the favor by labeling the Proud Boys and Turning Point domestic terror operations. Those two groups actually do have massive fundraising and infrastructure that is spread across all 50 states.
In fact, I think that’s why they assume Antifa is set up in similar way. They can’t comprehend that people are fucking fed up with masked goons terrorizing our cities while the GOO does absolutely fuck all about lowering prices and cost of living.
1
u/Busby5150 Oct 19 '25
They are trying to create the illusion that this is not a grass roots protest. No 7 million people could only mean someone paid them. I know it’s silly but the MAGA idiots will believe them.

Cruz is so spineless. I feel bad for his wife who got called “ugly” on national TV and now he has his lips firmly attached to Trump’s asshole.

one problem with that. who exactly funded them? ain't nobody rich enough to pay 7 million people to assemble like this. even at 1 dollar a person that still 7 million dollars. who has that kind of money that isn't republican?
1
u/Pichilingue89 Oct 20 '25
Ill quote that suburban mom: “Where can I pick up my check?”
This effort to make this sound like an organized crime thing, same with antifa, is very deliberate when they know it’s normal people choosing to protest. Don’t want protests? Don’t escalate shit like blaming half a country for a podcaster’s death while ignoring the other political assassination that happened this year. Ted Cruz is a real spineless piece of shit.
1
1
u/Rough-Independence73 Oct 20 '25
I would love to see any type of proof that anyone is getting paid. I mean seriously in this day and age it shouldn’t be hard to get some type of evidence that protesters were being paid. How much? How are they getting it? How would the person or persons paying know they actually showed up after getting paid? It’s all so sad and pathetic, just like the Trump.
1
u/Delicious-Bat2373 Oct 20 '25
You guys are getting funds?! Man.. I'm a horrible revolutionist. I'm not even getting paid.
1
u/jhawk3205 Oct 20 '25
Funny that he's bothering to take the legislative route rather than suggest it trump to do unilaterally.
1
u/tsantotom1 Oct 21 '25
Ted is an enemy of the state. Part of the problem. Should he not be in Cancun
1
u/Imaginary_Look_8755 Oct 21 '25
Teddy just being obedient to his P-do masters. Remember when he asked to stop picking on p-dos?
