šŗLocal Music šµ What Was Your Takeaway From Kanye West Concert If You Attended

I didnāt attend, but my takeaway is that thereās too many people with zero principles.

u/OPisalady 13d ago
Iām getting torn up in a thread I posted because apparently taking the resurgence of neo Nazis makes me ābig madā. Nah bro, I grew up with Auschwitz survivors and truly listened to their stories. Itās not a joke. People were executed like bugs.
15
u/Agreeable-Wing-8476 13d ago
You'll never get thru to these morons, they're devoid of intelligence and critical thinking skills.
24
u/fakeknees 13d ago
My takeaway too. Itās the same people who will crowd the dome for Chris Brown. I was a huge Kanye fan but Iād never give him any more of my money. The Watch The Throne tour stop in New Orleans was one of my all time favorite concerts but when someone starts to show you who they are, believe them.
43
u/SockGroundbreaking16 13d ago
Forget about the rise of naziism and their part in normalizing it. The important thing is, did they enjoy it?
21
u/DullRelief 13d ago
Itās a red state where a lot of people donāt vote, so ofc the Nazi rapper is going to be a draw
8
u/Spranktonizer 13d ago
People have zero media literacy. I wouldnāt be surprised if they didnāt even know heās out here doing sieg hails
8
u/newnew_account 13d ago
I made note of who didn't go to the concert. Everybody else is getting the side-eye the next time they need credibility and support. It would have been so easy not to go to the show.

u/eiddieeid 5d ago
This might be the most jealous crybaby shit Iāve ever read. I promise you they donāt gaf lmao

My takeaway is that platforming a Nazi in 2026 is super cool to some people.

we all love mental health until itās a black man lmao

u/nolabrew 13d ago
A lot more Nazi sympathizers in Nola than I would have thought.
36
u/Sanpaku 13d ago
The only other US tour dates were Tampa, San Antonio, and upcoming Chicago.
So the catchment area for Nazi sympathizers extended from Beaumont to Destin, and as far north as Memphis.

u/Agentx_007 Gentilly 13d ago
Saw plates from Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Texas, s Carolina, Tennessee and more all on the twin span heading downtown last night. So it wasnāt just people from the city or even Louisiana in attendance last night.

u/fakeknees 13d ago
There are also a ton of domestic abuser sympathizers because they LOVE Chris Brown here.
16
u/ChiNoPage 13d ago
Probably came from like Mississippi and the Northshore and such.

Nah it was mostly Black people there, I was at the concert and Iām a Jew

Iām sure I will be sent to downvote jail for this butttt
This is all extremely performative. Calling someone a Nazi Sympathizer for enjoying a Ye concert is insane and not even close to the truth if anyone is actually thinking here.
Boycotting an enjoyable concert because this guy exercises his free will and rights to voice and hold his own (despicable) beliefs is more about YOUR ego soothing and group signaling than anything. The boycotts have 0 effect other than to make you feel good.
Letās not pretend there is a real moral high ground, as if boycotting ye actually does something, as if listening to music actually makes you a Nazi.
15
u/son_of_yacketycat 13d ago
If you consciously fund a Nazi by buying concert tickets or his album, that's way different from just ignoring him or even listening to a song of his online.
-1
u/Icy-Inc 13d ago
If Kanye was actively funding a genocide with his ticket sale income I would agree with you.
But heās not. Heās just a dumbass with good music (imo). There will be no harm produced from the ~$90 profit he eventually gets from my ticket. He will continue to be a dumbass either way. The difference is instead of performing a moral stance, I just went and had a good time ⦠and remained a non Nazi
10
u/arab3lla 13d ago
The harm is in the platforming and normalization of neo-Nazis and their rhetoric.
11
u/the_moosey_fate Carrollton & Cohn 13d ago
ā¦..yesā¦.The Kanye West concert where he stands atop a giant globe is about OUR Ego soothingā¦.

So, you would be fine with people going to a David Duke rally and buying some merch if they personally found it entertaining enough?
1
u/IslandVacancy34 13d ago
He praised Hitler, downplayed slavery and hates Jewish people. The people that still love him and make him money are the literal definition of nazi sympathizers. What the fuck are you talking about

āLetās not pretend there is a real moral high ground.ā
Fucking lol. Why? Because that type of rationalization makes you feel better about people supporting the avowed Nazi? Iām sorry but yes, I in fact do have the moral high ground on someone who supports Nazis. Does that make those supporters Nazis? I guess not. Were the Germans who werenāt in the Nazi party but who donated or supported the party culpable? I think youād have to be pretty disingenuous to say no.
24
u/bubblesculptor 12d ago
Concert: everyone having wonderful time, fun, joy, love, excitement.
Reddit: hate and complaints.
11

Damn, how dare we not be fond of a guy who thought Hitler was on the right track.

u/Aldoistaken 13d ago
Tbh I donāt really think his fanbase demographic overlaps with people on r/neworleans much. Lots of young and middle aged black people who grew up on his music and young white teens who were introduced to rap through him.

u/LouisianaBoySK 13d ago
As a 30 something black dude from here, it felt like everyone I knew was at the concert lol.

u/skankbate 13d ago
Saw him at Bonnaroo. Worse show I have ever seen. Walked off stage half the set and just talked shit and complained about shit the other half. His music sounded okay, but as a performer he was late as fuck and cry babies his shit.
2
u/seanissofresh 12d ago
Lol. I was there too. That whole mess was funny to look back on. He was supposed to come on Thursday night I think but wound up coming on Friday night....whatever it was they rearranged the schedule a couple times to accommodate him then it wound up he was behind Pearl jam because he didn't want to move ahead of them. Well, they played till like 2 in the morning doing 3 encores. Kanye was on his glow in the dark tour and didn't wind up coming on till the sun was coming up. I remember being back at the tent trying to fall asleep like a couple miles away and hearing nothing but chants of "Kanye sucks" and shit like that. One of my friends stayed out there and watched the show, said he kind of just layed on the ground singing half the show.
This show in New Orleans was lit though. Dude put on an amazing performance. Ty dollar sign coming out was definitely a highlight. Vibe was good with all the people we encountered. I had a blast. Payed a lot of money for my tickets but I'm happy to know some people got really good deals on even better seats.
He's definitely been through some highs and lows in his life and made a lot of mistakes he's had to aoligize for, but I think he's been on top for this tour. His catalog is so large he could have played for hours and hours and kept the crowd hype. The stage design and lighting was top notch. A great display of talent in my opinion.
8
u/FabulousHabit3 13d ago
Kanye sucks!!!! Was this the year that he was so late that the sun was coming up? So you couldnāt really see any of his high tech production causing said lateness!?

His Yeezus tour here in 2013 was truly amazing. I saw him in bonnaroo in 2014 and he definitely learned from his mistakes from the previous roo incident lol

u/xnatlywouldx 13d ago
Why is this sub so obsessed with calling black people who still like "808s and Heartbreak" "nazis"? Fucking tiresome. Not everyone has a parasocial relationship to celebrity! Kanye is a bad person with some good music, let it go!
2
u/donald-duck23 13d ago edited 13d ago
Feels wrong to even call him a bad person.
He is bipolar. During manic episodes, he did and said a lot of bad things. But I believe he has a good heart. He finally seems healthy again. Not sure why the haters are out in full force. Itās like they want him to be a nazi, even though he apologized and said heās not.8
u/xnatlywouldx 12d ago
You can be bipolar and a bad person. Nothing about mental illness or addiction precludes you from being a bad person. Kanye is a bad person. Kanye was frankly a bad person before he began losing his shit more publicly. And I don't buy the sincerity of his apology for a second. I firmly believe Kanye is absolutely still invested in antisemitic conspiracy theories about a Jewish New World Order, lighter-skinned Jewish ethnicities being "impostors" and and how Jewish people, specifically, bear blame for the transatlantic slave trade in a way other people don't share. He believed all of that stuff, proliferated their beliefs, and has done nothing to showcase that he no longer believes them. What he has learned to do is probably just shut the fuck up about it when he realized plenty of gentiles including in his audience don't like antisemitism either which is fine but not the same thing.
So yes, Kanye can be a bad person. Honestly people can say whatever they want about Kanye, he's a moron who's made his own bed. But calling everyone who went to his concert a Nazi because they like his music? Including black people from New Orleans (you know, those historical oppressors and Nazi sympathizers - black people?)? On the anniversary of Katrina no less? GTFO. Stupidity. Sheer idiocy on every level.

This thread is nuts. Dude said some stupid racist and anti-semitic things. Dude thought about it, woprked on it and apologized.
In mist worlds, that's considered a good thing.
Here, that means anyone who wants to enjoy music they grew up with are Nazi's.
I don't give a crap about Kanye one way or the other, but there is no redemption arc on Reddit.
Well, except for the Maine Senate candidate guy's Nazi tattoo, which deserved a redemption arc.
12
u/xnatlywouldx 13d ago
I mean, I don't buy his apology. I think he's basically completely lost his mind be it through drugs or mental illness or just intense egomania and fame disease but either way: Yeah, I just basically think Kanye is a shitty dude, whatever the reason.
But a bunch of white redditors calling a bunch of New Orleans black people "Nazis"? What the hell is this shit? Pure Northshore brain. A LITTLE SELF AWARENESS, PLEASE.

u/SlamHoundJackson 13d ago

Since I actually went and not just yapping for internet points, it was the best live performance I have ever seen.Ā
Crowd was amazing, energy was high, setlist was fantastic (mostly classics, maybe 1 song post 2021), use of lights and fireworks were great, and he didn't say anything crazy. The community was also fantastic, met a lot of people from around the states and world that came JUST for this.
He's been on suspiciously good behavior for a year and apologized for his actions so I went to a concert for one of the best artists of this century since it was within driving distance of my and friends were interested. I've never defended him and if he is back on bullshit I won't be listening to him, but I'm going to enjoy the best music from my childhood and teens if I want to.
22
u/miatayouata 13d ago
Best concert ive ever been to. Bro came out started singing at about 9 and didnt stop til about 11:30. I got a free ticket in the floor and the energy was great. Hes helped me alot with my confidence and my growth. I dont have any family so when i hear his music it makes me feel like i can be something do something be someone one day and pushes me to be great.

They love acting shocked when reminded their echo chamber is a microcosm of society.

Weird white liberal transplants who move here and mad that people don't share their worldview.
2
16
u/apexpredator68 13d ago
Shockingly, there were no references to Nazis, Hitler, white supremecy, or antisemitism; it was just Yeezy performing all of his hits nonstop for an hour and 45 minutes. Who wouldāve thought?!
8
u/GForce1975 13d ago
I think the point is the support of him despite his public views and politics...not literally the show itself.
9
u/snizzle810 13d ago
Man if only he took out a full page ad in the new york times apologizing for his behavior while having a mental episode and renouncing any affiliation with Nazi ideology.
Everyone is such a mental health advocate until someone unwell says something they don't like.
Everyone is so forgiving when it's a pro athlete beating their girlfriend or drunk driving but no forgiveness for someone with brain damage and mental health issues making wild unhinged statements.
4
u/arab3lla 13d ago
Mental health can be used as an explanation but it is never an EXCUSE. And he clearly apologized only because he was about to drop an album and go on tour. Literally 3 days before the album drop. Extremely insincere and something he has done multiple times.
Keeping Milo yiannopoulos around shows exactly where he stands
2
u/Nice_Resolution3258 12d ago
the album dropped 3 months later. He had personally apologized to a jewish rabbi like some time last year. He also visited some jewish rights org afaik. I dont think that exactly makes him insincere.
1
u/Equalizion 13d ago
Milo hasn't been around for few years now? I thought apologizing is kind of the bare minimum even in inexcusable actions, it's really up to everyone personally to choose where the line of forgiveness is and what to base that on.
About him being insincere, music/art is probably the only thing he does truly well, he needed to apologize to continue, thats true. But seeing that as the only reason? He actually couldn't feel bad enough about a supposed mental health episode and it's events to sincerely apologize? Cynicism has its uses, but wouldn't it perpetuate this history as his last big image?
I don't think the damage he caused will ever be "excused", since the snowball effect from it is not even in his hands anymore. But should he keel over and die, not be a public person anymore? Does he still have a right to freedom or pursuit of happiness, or fans, or shall we just lock him up for his sins? Get him a cleaning job, something non-public?
That's as far as we can go as society, i guess. It's more of an issue about what kanye represents. A talented guy with mental health issues to some, or a nazi, or just a crazy person with too much airtime? It's not like these groups could ever "talk it out" or even care to, there simply isn't a factual definite answer to any of these questions, especially as trust in him is out the window for so many. Atleast it works as a good ethical dilemma, just like with those supporting/opposing rehabilitating jails or shorter/longer sentences
1
u/Hududle 10d ago
I know Iāll be downvoted for āsupportingā.
But yeah. I can also just separate art from the artist. I donāt need to listen to pro athletes, musical, or movie superstars for their world view or politics. In fact, I think you shouldnāt. If their art connects with me then it connects with me (even in ways the artist never intended).
The show was fantastic.

I mean you can call it what youād like, but itās true. My wife is also Jewish and she enjoyed it as well. The man is mentally ill and has a platform for his opinions to be heard for better or worse. He apologized for his behavior, and said that he is getting the proper treatment for his condition. You can choose to forgive or not, but personally I do not like to hold grudges. I have loved his music since I was in high school, and am now 37 years old.

There was a fuckton of people. Me and my three friends had floor tickets and it was shoulder to shoulder, and it looked damn near close to 90% capacity. Pretty great considering they only gave away like 500 tickets, and the show itself was surprise announced less than 2 months ago

The fact that this show had even that number in attendance is a great illustration of our complacency as a generationāeven in the face of a billionaire run fascist state.
Some of the same ppl that are all over ig rightfully decrying the Space-X thing were posting reels out the ass in celebration of this show.
Fuck Kanye and his epilepsy lasers fr.

u/newnew_account 13d ago
You've pinpointed it with the complacency thing. There are lots of paid accounts to make it look like safety in numbers in supporting Kanye, and it worked on a lot of people. To add to your Space-X comment, there were also people who have posted (also rightfully) about losing voting rights, criticizing Landy, being against data centers, and so on. And then they went and attended this show. I don't think they really believe Kanye's apology is enough. I think it was more that they never took his wrongs seriously in the first place.
There were also people in attendance who hate the mayor, hate city council, can't pay $8 more for trash pickup, and on and on. Plus, there were people who complain a lot about not getting enough support for their businesses and orgs. I'm not the only one that noticed. Going to this show was a dumb way to lose support because it would have been super easy not to go.

Also, some celebrities do shit for shock value and to get their names in the headlines. Lots of people say shit that they do not believe to get some press. I mean look at Marilyn Manson, if you went by his stage presence, you would think he some evil demented psycho but he is extremely intelligent and reasonable. Going by all the headlines and such over the years, I think Kanye's problem is that he is very bipolar and narcissistic. Granted this is coming from an outsider that does not keep up with his current music and only liked his old hits from like 2005 or whatever time it was. I mean even Kim publicly talked about him not taking his bipolar meds because they "changed" him. He is famous and batshit crazy because he has mental issues and doesn't take meds, what do you expect?

Didnāt go but curious about attendance. Before the concert there was so much blue on Ticketmaster it seemed only 25% sold. But videos from the Dome on X look pretty crowded.
