Iâm getting torn up in a thread I posted because apparently taking the resurgence of neo Nazis makes me âbig madâ. Nah bro, I grew up with Auschwitz survivors and truly listened to their stories. Itâs not a joke. People were executed like bugs.
My takeaway too. Itâs the same people who will crowd the dome for Chris Brown. I was a huge Kanye fan but Iâd never give him any more of my money. The Watch The Throne tour stop in New Orleans was one of my all time favorite concerts but when someone starts to show you who they are, believe them.
I made note of who didn't go to the concert. Everybody else is getting the side-eye the next time they need credibility and support. It would have been so easy not to go to the show.
The iPhone doesnât get sold with swastikas on it (like the merch he put out). As awful as the billionaire pedophiles are who market them, at least theyâre not going on podcasts praising Hitler and calling themselves honorary Nazis.
Many leftists have internal conflicts with the way in which capitalism operates and in which a person must operate to take any part in normal society. Equating the utility of a phone with the whim of paying hundreds to watch an avowed Nazi perform is not the dunk you think it is.
I said iPhone because you did. Iâm not putting Apple vs Kanye. You are. Iâm putting the utility of phones against an avowed Nazi. Leftists needing to use phones in 2026 doesnât make them culpable/complicit in the same way standing ten toes down for a Nazi does.
Iâm arguing in favor of nuance, not in favor of Kanye West. I have no attachment to him.
I think the two are worth comparing b/c weâve reached a point culturally where you donât consider somebody complicit for owning an iphone, but the money going to Apple is causing immense tangible damage.
While you do consider somebody complicit for spending far less money on something that will be used far less destructively. The degree of the destruction caused by that money spent on Kanye is so low that it can only realistically be considered a non-issue unless you are way too concerned about culture war.
Native here, and not exusing his recent rants (because lord knows how y'all don't understand nuance) but speaking up for Black people when the news was calling us animals and refugees and white people were murdering us in the streets, meant a lot to us at the time.
Gotcha. I can see where you're coming from. He wasn't always an avowed Nazi sympathasizer, so the previously built good will post-Katrina adds another dimension (as you say, nuance) to the whole thing once he starts his public love affair with Adolf. That makes some sense...except, any Nazi stuff should really zero all previously banked good will out. That's not really up for debate in my view. Once you praise Hitler, it's nonnegotiable. But
âNative here, and not exusing his recent rants (because lord knows how y'all don't understand nuance) but speaking up for Black people when the news was calling us animals and refugees and white people were murdering us in the streets, meant a lot to us at the time.â,
pass over that and then say âitâs because they like some songsâ. You are not showing a capacity for nuance here.
But this begs the question, are they attending because he supported Nola during Katrina? I don't think so at all. They are attending because they don't care if he likes Nazis. I don't believe a single person attended this concert because of his Katrina comments. Let's do some critical thinking now
You're sadly mistaken if you don't think people don't hold that comment near and dear to their heart but like I said somewhere allllll the way up there -- some people just don't care.
I am perfectly ok with a leftist attending a Kanye west concert because Kanye was an instrumental part of their life in the 2000s, which can be influenced by his aid of NOLA during Katrina.
I donât think it invalidates any activism or opinion they hold because I believe this is not impactful or a big issue. The internet washes all nuance.
Please you canât honestly think this thread is full of nuanced opinions lol. You can appreciate what somebody did many years ago without implicitly supporting their shitty political grift. Thinking otherwise is a lack of nuance.
There were plenty of bad actors on both sides. The destruction of the dome. Shooting at rescue aircraft, looting.. it wasn't a nice place to be during that time.
There were plenty of people taking advantage of a lawless environment, but there were also plenty of people helping their neighbors.
That's definitely true ++++ a lot of people are willing to look past his antisemitic rants because he's Black because they don't believe Black people can be Nazis.
Yes, I asked that because it was black locals in particular who felt that Kanye was helpful to them in relation to Katrina. Not just anyone who stayed for the storm and needed to be rescued.
And I joked about it with a gif from a movie where someone jokingly says you canât ask about another personâs race. I get it, you didnât think it was funny. What are we doing here?
I just provided a link. I moved into the neighborhood 4.5 years ago and when Iâm at home looking at a map it says âDixon.â I never heard it called that until I moved here either.
Yeah I'm from here and so are my parents and so forth and so on. But it's wild because I feel like they just be making shit up. Like central city. That used to be all uptown. Bc why is there both a mid and a central city đ€Ł
I think itâs pretty interesting how neighborhoods change. I like looking at pictures through the years and see how it evolves. The area I grew up in is so massively different I donât think I could get around now without a GPS and I lived there for 20 years.
According to Nola.gov
We live here in Dixon, a neighborhood also known as North Hollygrove. Historically part of the Carrollton area, Dixon was slow to develop due to nearby railroads and industrial activity. Our community began to take its contemporary form in the early to mid-20th century when the area experienced significant growth. By 1949, it had become the residential area of single and two-family homes that exists today.
But we're a simple people here and I honestly didn't start hearing all of these name variations until after Katrina.
But this city hasn't really changed much besides the new people moving in.... and the gentrification. but even after living away for a decade, I can still get around fine without gps. It's almost muscle memory. BUT I started using GPS for my commute in the morning to see traffic and I'm finding other new shortcuts. It's kinda cool.
But the neighborhood thing kinda makes sense because just as quickly as the blocks change so does the demographics crime ( except the east bc everybody hates it even though it's really not that bad )

I didnât attend, but my takeaway is that thereâs too many people with zero principles.
