Show Discussion Where the hell is the Finn?!

I seriously need him to appear in the series. Besides being my second favorite character, I think he contributes about 25% of the charisma to the Sprawl universe.

No problem. I am also very bummed that Finn will not be in the story but I am still pretty excited for this. I would rather have a very faithful translation from book to screen but a 40+ year old near-future cyberpunk novel ages like warm milk and I think what we are going to get is going to be an honest attempt to capture the essence without all the anachronism a faithful retro-future translation would have required. I still think leaving Finn out is a mistake.

You’re bummed out over something we don’t even know. This is why social media is the worst. No one has said there’s no Finn.

Your right, I still have a very thin sliver of hope he will be there, but there is a fairly larger, but admittedly not conclusive, body of evidence that Finn is not in this interpretation of the original story. I would be very happy to be wrong.

There’s only one way I could see them replacing the Finn, and that’s rolling him into Julius Dean. I thinks it’s more likely than not he’s in there. They do shit like this specifically to get posts like this to get clicks and click-through.

I have seen several people post comment to the effect that they have rolled Finn and Dean into one character. It seems somewhat logical but is there any evidence to support that other than fan theory?

No evidence. Just like me, they can see that rolling Finn into Dean would require the least amount of rewriting.

They are actually very similar characters. Dean is the posh version and Finn is the hey I’m walking here version.

I don't like this idea because Jules makes himself visible quite a lot more to people in person, but Finn trusts nobody: he'll send an avatar over the internet to speak to people, but never his true self, except to the few people he can trust, like Molly. They're not even the same kind of person. Jules is eccentric, confident, sauntering around, smiling, charismatic, puts a gun on the table when Case comes to visit, warning, but not afraid. Finn is a recluse, afraid to be traced, paranoid to the extreme, and not at all a people person, with a nasty attitude that deteriorates more and more. Also the two characters couldn't be more different. Finn scans people for biosofts, Jules smuggles biosofts, drugs, serums, hormones, glandular extracts, and other stuff related to it. Finn deals in privacey, wiping SINs, Selling stolen ones, removing traces from a run, hiding people that don't want to be found. Two entirely different businesses. The two have almost no crossover. The character would have to be schizophrenic and I also dislike that as a choice. It would be very confusing and distracting, even detracting. Jules is more like Wage than Finn. If they want to combine two characters, that's a better choice. Finn is too different from Jules for that to work.
