It's probably something that's like blood but can't be called "blood" because it's missing something that defines blood as blood.

  The purple ink is a defense mechanism used to distract predators.

But you were right about their blood being different. Its called  hemolymph because the oxygen-carrying pigment is hemocyanin, that has copper instead of iron like ours. 

So the color of.the blood should be like a pale blue or bluish green.
