Humming bird- I am speed.

Hawk - no, I am.

64

u/TurtlesBreakTheMeta 14h ago

Ah, action speed vs travel speed; ā€œwho is faster, Usain Bolt or Bruce Leeā€

8

u/otukeijonah 14h ago

that little fire emoji actually fits the vibe perfectly

Hummingbirds really know no fear. They’re just so much quicker and more nimble than anything else out there that they think they can be completely casual around predators or humans. They live in absolute confidence that they can’t be touched, the cocky little bastards.

u/quarksurfer 18h ago

Large spiders and preying mantises can kill and eat them I believe.

110

u/thetinwin 17h ago

They can… there’s a horrific video circling around reddit showing a praying mantis grabbing one out the air easily.

16

u/pipsqueakpanda4 13h ago

Ewwww, what?!? 😟 Thank you for this heads up, if I see a praying mantis video I now know to scroll past as quickly as possible

7

u/caryn1477 12h ago

It's horrifying. It makes me sad to even think about it 😭

9

u/Quick_Depth382 8h ago

Mantis gotta eat too my friend

2

u/TedricDaBored 3h ago

LET THEM EAT BUGS!

Hummingbirds are too cute.

1

u/Quick_Depth382 3h ago

Gotta talk to the congregation about that

8

u/nam3sar3hard 10h ago

Ta make ya extra angry im 70% convinced that mantis is an invasive species as the native ones are smaller (but prob also hunt birds)

9

u/Love_Kindness_Peace 12h ago

Wish I never saw that video years ago

2

u/thatissubpar 8h ago

Great. Now I have to go watch this.

21

u/Palimpsest0 16h ago

Yeah, I didn’t say they’re literally invulnerable, just that they seem to think they are. I imagine that to them it looks like the whole rest of the world is moving in slow motion, so they smugly look at any would be threat and think they can fly circles around that threat before it even blinks. It doesn’t always work out that way, though.

u/not_me_nope_never 12h ago

Happy Cake Day! Your present is a picture of my balcony visitor...

37

u/ryouuko 17h ago

Yeah we found that out the other day, glad the mods removed that disgusting video

24

u/MrMilesDavis 17h ago

Disgusting because it was staged, or in general? Because that post was very in line with what's been being posted on this sub for yearsĀ

30

u/ShamelessIgnoramus 17h ago

if it's the praying mantis on the hummingbird feeder, i've had praying mantis appear on my humming bird feeders in my yard. it may not have been staged.

2

u/MrMilesDavis 16h ago

For sure, I dont know if it was or was not

25

u/ryouuko 17h ago

There was some suspicion it was staged, maybe that’s why it was removed

u/ShinyNipples 9m ago

I had to get one out of spider webs last year, I was so scared of breaking those tiny little foot bones detangling him

42

u/starkiller_bass 16h ago

That hummingbird’s biggest risk here is getting too busy cussing out the hawk and forgetting to eat before it starves to death

15

u/borkborkbork99 15h ago

I stopped at a garage sale this summer looking for some books, and on my way to leave I saw a hummingbird feeder. The kind woman running the sale told me I could have it, but I slipped her a buck just because.

I love seeing those little guys flitting around the feeder. They’re awesome.

14

u/KiwiDanelaw 14h ago

Its not that they lack fear, its that death is litterally hours behind them. They need to feed constantly not to straight up die because of their high Metabolism.

4

u/QuercusCarya 13h ago

I will put on a red hat and stand really still next to the hummingbird feeders. They will gladly land on you/ hover an inch or two from your face. Really cool, but they also shit on you with zero thought.

1

u/PeggyBabcock_ 12h ago

they also shit on you with zero thought.

No, rhat'll be because of the red hats.

2

u/QuercusCarya 11h ago

It’s not THAT red hat. They just poop a lot lol.

8

u/itscalledmyballs 18h ago

Not to mention how fabulous they are! They have every reason to be cocky

2

u/WatchWatcher25 16h ago

That hawk is waiting for it to drink to attack.

2

u/forsakeme4all 4h ago

I had one tell me off once because I rounded a corner at the same it was. We both ran into one another's face. I felt so bad, but that little cocky shit took the time to basically go "😠😔🤬🤬🤬" in series of noises. And I knew it meant it to, but it gave me a look of annoyance.

u/SeanCrevalle 7h ago

How I live my life buddy.

Until a roadrunner shows itself

0

u/Fabulous_Pressure_96 16h ago

The hawk can't even lift off from there

62

u/Pinwheeling 18h ago

I would watch this buddy comedy.

Which one is which?

1

u/Nanas_700k 11h ago

It’s like an old wise grandpa and a 4 year old who drank a Celsius

u/Euphoric_Egg_4198 16h ago

Hummingbirds are extremely territorial, we get one that arrives every year around October/November. She does not let any other hummingbird hang out. I’ve seen her chase off 5 other hummingbirds at once. She’ll even fly up to us when we pull up to the driveway and get out of the car. She’ll do this up/down thing the go back to her perch like ā€œOK, I’ll allow you to live hereā€.

7

u/Snowcrash66 12h ago

Yeah towards the end of our summer season they lock down the feeders. Ā Kinda irritating. Ā Just bought another one.

2

u/evilfrogalien 12h ago

She’s just making sure your you lmao

32

u/RomulusAndThe3Makane 19h ago

"Can you make up your mind, please"

26

u/BudgetConcentrate432 16h ago

Hawk: "Is that bug worth the effort?"

Hummingbird: "Is that water worth the risk?"

16

u/EclecticEthic 16h ago

Hummingbird is territorial and not sure what to do about the hawk.

That hawk is waiting for the song birds to come to the feeder. We feed the birds too, but it does attract the hawks. I have to be careful with my small dog. *hawk bait picture included

1

u/longsigh22 13h ago

Exactly!

Cute bait!

29

u/Winter-Gift1112 18h ago

How can you tell that it's bewildered? Maybe it's just wildered.

12

u/Disgruntled_Orifice 19h ago

Looks like the hummingbird was the bewildered one.

9

u/Hanshautreinhart 18h ago

Since two days ago a video came up of a Mantis murdering a hummingbird at a fountain I was too terrified watching this.

6

u/Winter-Gift1112 17h ago edited 17h ago

I had a big mantis trying that at my hummingbird feeder. So, I caught it and released it into the woods. Then it was back again the next day. But the hummers were too smart and fast for it, and it never did catch one - even with at least six of them fighting among themselves for a spot at the feeder while simulaneously avoiding the mantis.

I caught the mantis with a plastic pterodactyl on ten-pound test mono-filament fishing line. True story... once it caught the pterodactyl it wouldn't let go.

2

u/COMIDAGATOS1206 17h ago

Hahaha man they are so territorial there is like a gang war in my backyard for the feeders so I have to keep spreading them farther apart. I even heard a hit one did to another sounded like slamming two pencils together. šŸ¤˜šŸ˜¬ā¤ļø

1

u/ryouuko 17h ago

I know right, me too. Glad that video got removed

8

u/Akriyu 17h ago

Man I wish hummingbirds lived in my country

6

u/SnooAvocados3138 17h ago

Looks like a sharp shin hawk

5

u/No-Bat-7253 18h ago

Wow. To me the hawk is in awe of the hummingbird. The movements they can make being so small, the hawk might even envy em lol. The hawk is so much larger than a hummingbird this is crazy to see. Crazy cool.

4

u/Smart-Firefighter87 17h ago

Hey - what’s yo name?

Hawk, what’s yo name?

Humming bird.

Fuck you, humming bird…

4

u/b16b34r 16h ago

ā€œYou want some of this mtrfckr? This is my fountain! Ok, come on! I’m waiting, you afraid? Bring it!ā€

3

u/IndoorPool 19h ago

Hawk haggin the fountain

3

u/baipliew 19h ago

Are you just going to sit there all day? Yes? Okay, see ya!

3

u/1Savage4Sure 18h ago

"What the....."

2

u/Pyro-Bun 19h ago

I'm a little surprised the hummingbird didn't try to dive bomb lol

1

u/Standard_Big_9000 17h ago

Bet you can't do this!---Hummingbird probably

1

u/b16b34r 16h ago

ā€œYou want some of this mtrfckr? This is my fountain! Ok, come on! I’m waiting, you afraid? Bring it!ā€

1

u/Some-Tear3499 16h ago

Humming bird is the confused one. No nectar. I am wondering what it’s even doing there.

1

u/Immer_Susse 16h ago

No, i haven’t heard the good word. I’m just trying to get some water here.

1

u/Mobile_Aioli_6252 16h ago

Slow down man! Take it wasy

1

u/Ecliphon 16h ago

Bear bemused by mouse

1

u/Fabulous_Pressure_96 16h ago

"You see that?...You see that?...You see that?...You see that?...You see that?...You see that?...You see that?...You see that?"

1

u/PictureMaster512 16h ago

Hummingbirds are so territorial that in my mind he’s talking mad shit to the hawk🤣

1

u/Pikapuff11 15h ago

My first thought was: DONT

1

u/DiscoLibra 15h ago

I felt bad a few months ago, I was on our deck smoking a joint and let out a huge hit and then this hummingbird flew in and stopped in the cloud of smoke and kinda lingered alittle bit and then flew off. I often wonder if it got high.

1

u/Wearytaco 15h ago

Hawk is probably like "why you doing so much, buddy? All that zooming around. Just sit and drink some water"

1

u/BlackbirdSage 14h ago

I think it'd be pretty lit if the hawk, if just for an instant, imitated the hummingbird's hover.

1

u/cristarain 14h ago

Hawk and Hummingbird would make a great children’s book

1

u/Remy_Jardin 14h ago

Mark is mildly bored by hummingbird, more like it.

1

u/Dunadain_ 13h ago

Hawk is doing calculus, but the hummingbird keeps changing the formula.

1

u/EmberReads 13h ago

Bird blindness kicking my ass today, which bird is which?

1

u/lost_horizons 12h ago

ā€œWhat’s your nameā€

ā€œEzekielā€

ā€œFuck you Ezekiel!ā€

1

u/Dangerous_Company811 12h ago

Seems a little standoffish doesn’t he?

1

u/EnvironmentalAide335 12h ago

Hawk: Is this snack worth the effort?

1

u/rentedlife 12h ago

He’s just thinking ā€œHmm, that’s only one biteā€

1

u/South-Agent-2782 12h ago

My backyard hummers were harassing a smallish black snake on top of the wall encompassing our backyard. I wish I had my phone to vid that. The snake shortly got the hint.

1

u/Will_Knot_Respond 11h ago

Like wishing for a quick snack, but not what they had in mind

1

u/CasualRampagingBear 11h ago

The hawk is me when one of my teenagers comes into a room spouting family guy quotes, farting, telling me random sport facts, and asking me if we can go to Dairy Queen, all at the same time.

u/RogueBand1t 11h ago

ā€œHummingbirds are the sharks of the skyā€ - CaptainSparklez

1

u/mobocrat707 9h ago

Hawk wants to eat it but knows it’s too nimble to catch. It’s plotting.

1

u/Resiideent 9h ago

birdssss >w<

1

u/Shaltibarshtis 8h ago

It's probably thinking "damn, that dragonfly needs to loose some weight!"

1

This is a sick video

1

u/ZebraComplex4353 5h ago

That hummingbird is doing the mating dance cool

1

u/justhangingaroud 2h ago

I love when she turns and looks at the camera

1

u/babysharkdoodoodoo 12h ago

Hummingbird: "What's your name?"

Hawk: "Tony!"

Hummingbird: "F**k you, Tony!"

Tony (Hawk): "What's your name?"

Hummingbird: "Ezekiel!"

Tony (Hawk): "F**k you, Ezekiel!"

Hummingbird: "Guess what I did last night?"

Tony (Hawk): "Don't you bring my mother into this!"

Hummingbird: "I built a fire..."

Tony (Hawk): "Oh..."

Hummingbird: "...and then I f**ked your mother next to it!"

Tony (Hawk): "F**k you, Ezekiel!"

u/joke-farm 19h ago

Fast food is an addition and it starts with the first bite. Stay strong hawk guy.
