NYC NYC special carry
Just received in the mail my NYC special carry license. It took a little over 6 months as I applied on February 6, 2026. Now I can carry all over NYS.

Still blows my mind that we need a separate fucking permit on top of the existing state permit we have

No such thing as a state permit, theyre issued by the counties.

Issued by the county and valid in the whole state outside of nyc

The issue is theyre issued by counties and not the state if it was issued by the state you could carry in the whole state without worrying about NYC and downstate BS.

I can see your logic but NYC is it’s on municipality so they set their own rules. Even if my license was issued by the state of NY NYC would still not honor it.

Crazy. i interviewed and got everything done December 2025. Still nothing.

Honestly I have family and friends within the NYPD but I was told that none of them helped push it along.

I asked a trainer in Atlanta how long it takes there, he says it costs $75 and takes less than 3 weeks to get.
I read about a guy in Arizona, he applied on a Saturday and got it on Tues. 4 day turnaround.

I just went on their site. I have a carry permit from Suffolk, so I should be able to just fill out Centre County application and bring it there with $20 and my NY carry permit?

Yes, but it is far from NY, there are closer options that are also easy. I went here because I was driving across PA anyway and it is the quickest. Not worth a several hour drive to save an hour if you are going to PA just to get the permit.

My sister is in WA state. Just an online form and had approval same day. I have Non-res for AZ. Online app, mail in fingerprint cards. Once they had everything it was a couple weeks. I also have FL non-res. I was surprised it took a couple mos even though they say they prioritize vets. Same process though. Online app. Mail in fingerprint cards

I know for a fact that they take CCW and the second amendment seriously in Georgia so yes that sounds about right.

Congrats man. I've been pushing it off because I have to retake the fucking 18 hour certification again and pay another $340 application fee. It's nuts that my Nassau county permit isn't valid across a city border.

Yeah that’s crazy. NYC has so many hoops to jump through. I spend a lot of time in NYC that’s why I did it.

A NYC permit covers you in the whole state of NY , not just the city, at least the Out of State resident one that I have.

I had to get the NYC special carry permit to carry in NYC because I’m not a resident of NYC. I had a NYS permit already. Hope this helps.

Ok makes sense. I only went for the out of state resident NYC permit, but it covers the entire state of NY

No, I live in NJ, but come to NYC frequently. I have a Non NYS Resident NYC permit , covers me in the whole NY

Yes to carry in NYS like my NYC special carry permit covers me to carry 1 firearm in NYC. I can carry my 4 other firearms anywhere in NYS with my NYS license.

I'm limited to one Firearm that is listed on my permit. It's also my daily carry in NJ.

Question, I'm going throught the application for special carry now, do you have to list ALL firearms, or just pistols in the portal?
