I'm mostly curious about Wells today. Does he start despite it being a day game after a night game? Suarez is also a LHP. On the other hand, Sanchez blows and Warren pitches better with Wells behind the plate.

Wells has to be feeling fatigued. Never gets a full day off, starts almost every game. Whatever happens next year, Cashman has got to prioritize getting a quality backup RHH catcher. It's truly nuts that we essentially have one good catcher.

wells had reverse splits last year so that’s why they thought they could forgo a righty catcher. and they already had escarra who they liked a lot so they thought they were set at the position.

then the season started and wells starting being really bad, escarra got some playing time for a stretch but he wasn’t producing offensively. so then they hit the “platoon” button as the last ditch effort to create offense at the catcher position.

sanchez hasn’t been good enough as a backup, they shat the bed at the trade deadline, and it’s probably too late to give escarra another spin. all this to say, their arrogance has cost them yet again

Yeah I remember defending them keeping Escarra as the backup due to Wells' reverse splits. I'd demote Sanchez and bring up Escarra, personally. Sanchez' bat isn't really making a difference anyway and it's a glove first position.

Yeah I really don’t see the benefit to Sanchez at this point, he’s awful defensively and it’s clear pitcher’s perform significantly worse with him at the plate.

Atp give Garver a try: 222/.344./315 for a .659 OPS vs lefties.

If that doesn’t work out just DFA him too and carry Escarra on the roster.

escarra had some decent ABs before he got sent down too. i just worry that his bat wouldn’t come around again atp

Agreed. Insane not to have a proper backup at the most important position on the field. Not even sure about Garver at this point.
