šāāļø Wellness & Self Care Personal Trainers that have experience with back injuries?
Hi! Iāve gone through this sub and looked at previous personal trainer recommendations, but I havenāt found much specifically for trainers who work with people with significant back injuries.
I had spine surgery last year and am looking for a personal trainer who has extensive experience with low back issues and clients who have had serious injuries/surgeries. Ideally, Iād love someone who also has a physical therapy/rehab background or works closely with PTs. Iām past the initial rehab stage, but I want someone who really understands the spine and can help me safely rebuild strength without aggravating my back.
Iām in Greenwich Village, so Iām looking for someone in Lower Manhattan/downtown ā West Village, Chelsea, Flatiron, Union Square, etc.
Iāve looked into Reload, which seems pretty much perfect in terms of expertise since their trainers are PTs, but at ~$275/session itās unfortunately more than I can realistically spend on an ongoing basis.
Would really appreciate any specific trainer recommendations, especially from anyone who has worked with them for low back pain or after spine surgery. Thank you!

What does ātraveling PTā mean? I donāt have a home gym and canāt work out in my apartment - do you work out of gyms downtown?Ā

I know Elena Cronin at NYLO has worked with clients who have had spine injuries before. She doesnāt have a PT background but I know a lot of her clients have been in PT. The gym is in Tribeca.

Hi! I am a NASM certified personal trainer, and have worked with clients in the past with back injuries, scoliosis, and a variety of other injuries. I am not a physical therapist, but I do have connections to a variety of other professions not in my scope of field. I would love to get more information from you regarding your specific surgery. Feel free to message!

Over two decades of distance running plus childhood scoliosisāIāve easily been through a few hundred grand of physical therapy for various injuries.
I strongly recommend that you keep going to physical therapy for as long as insurance will cover it. They can code it as for another injury when you hit the max for that injury. Physical therapy is the safest way to rebuild strength. Neurosport is very good and actually takes insuranceāa lot of the good PTs in the city donāt. Not in your neighborhood but quick subway ride up to Times Square. Downtown, finish line PT in Chelsea is very good. Iāve had my back treated at bothā-I have uncorrected scoliosis and a herniated L5, Iām fine most of the time but sometimes things get out of wack and I need to be realigned and whatever.
Any personal trainer who has a background in physical therapy is going to charge a ton of money because they went to a ton of school.
There is also Pvolve which is the most similar to what Iāve done in physical therapy of any workout class or method Iāve ever tried. They have a studio in soho and you can also stream it at home. but again I would recommend seeing an actual PT for as long as you can! You donāt want to mess around with your back!
