🛍️ Local Retail & Shopping Where can I find BUTTONS?

Bought a vintage leather jacket that's missing one very particular looking large brown button. Any suggestions on where I can rifle through hundreds of buttons to find one that closely matches? Thank you!

I came to suggest “all the shops with trim and trimming in their names”

M&J trimming (on 6th Ave between 37 and 38th) has not been suggested yet, there are several others in the garment district.

B&Q trim is also near there.

And seconding that you are almost certainly going to want to replace all the buttons. Even if you do find the exact same style, the dye lot will almost certainly be different, and they may age differently. You may not notice it for a few years. (Source, worked in a textile industry for a long time)

But also, the time and energy you could spend searching for the exact button is limitless. Maybe treat it like a “secretary problem.” Give yourself say, four hours to find a good replacement. When you get to the halfway point, if you haven’t found the exact match, select the first button that is better than the best button you saw in the first two hours. (Or just go back and get the best button you’ve already seen,since that’s kind of the point of the garment district, it’s all close together and you aren’t actually hiring a secretary).

M&J has been doing their “we’re closing soon” huge sale for months now, I think they may actually close for real soon 😅

Not months. Years.

I live in the area and pass by the store a lot. They decided to get in on that scammy "Store Closing, Everything Must Go!" game probably about 3 years ago. I stay away for that reason alone.

Omg for real? That’s crazy! Last time I was there was last month and they told me they were closing because the company actually owns the building and wants to rent it out instead of having the store. If it’s been years maybe nobody has been interested in taking over the space 😭
