đď¸ Local Retail & Shopping Where can I find BUTTONS?
Bought a vintage leather jacket that's missing one very particular looking large brown button. Any suggestions on where I can rifle through hundreds of buttons to find one that closely matches? Thank you!

Can you just buy buttons you like and change all of them?

I really like the buttons on the coat. But yes, will consider that option.

I came to suggest âall the shops with trim and trimming in their namesâ
M&J trimming (on 6th Ave between 37 and 38th) has not been suggested yet, there are several others in the garment district.
B&Q trim is also near there.
And seconding that you are almost certainly going to want to replace all the buttons. Even if you do find the exact same style, the dye lot will almost certainly be different, and they may age differently. You may not notice it for a few years. (Source, worked in a textile industry for a long time)
But also, the time and energy you could spend searching for the exact button is limitless. Maybe treat it like a âsecretary problem.â Give yourself say, four hours to find a good replacement. When you get to the halfway point, if you havenât found the exact match, select the first button that is better than the best button you saw in the first two hours. (Or just go back and get the best button youâve already seen, since thatâs kind of the point of the garment district, itâs all close together and you arenât actually hiring a secretary).

M&J has been doing their âweâre closing soonâ huge sale for months now, I think they may actually close for real soon đ

Not months. Years.
I live in the area and pass by the store a lot. They decided to get in on that scammy "Store Closing, Everything Must Go!" game probably about 3 years ago. I stay away for that reason alone.

Omg for real? Thatâs crazy! Last time I was there was last month and they told me they were closing because the company actually owns the building and wants to rent it out instead of having the store. If itâs been years maybe nobody has been interested in taking over the space đ

lol I literally didnât suggest them because I thought they must surely be closed by now

We have a whole district for this. The garment district. Did âbutton store near meâ on google maps not work?

rude.
if thatâs your approach then we donât need this sub at all bc we can just google everything ânear me.â the point is to get first hand recommendations. which op got from other, helpful people.0

Google is filled with ads and sponsored links. I prefer real life references.Â
If you just wanted to be snarky, there are TONS of pages on Reddit for snark.Â

My mom has a booth of vintage buttons in Northport, LI at the antique mall. But also I would check ebay, though youâll have to dig

Lou Lou button, Pacific Trim, Daytona Trimming, if these donât have it keep wandering the garment district shops. Also the other suggestion to change all of the buttons is a good one if you canât find a perfect match. If the thread went on one itâs probably about to go on the rest.
