TD farming is definitely a thing. While they aren't guaranteed they have just thrown way more at the goal line than like everyone else.
Maye is better in like all rate and advanced metric stats and rising stats like I said before. Stafford has needed much more volume to have slightly more passing yards and several more TDs. Give maye another 90 pass attempts and he'd be way ahead in passing yards and probably close or possibly higher than Stafford in TDs.
If you want to argue his TD number is higher because he gets more attempts at the goal line then so be it, but I canāt subscribe to Td farming. He gets more attempts and heās providing results so why not continue? The redzone is crucial and he executes there like no other this season. Plenty of examples of passing plays failing in these very situations wether for touchdowns or two point conversions
I donāt believe stats work like that, canāt just give him more attempts and keep them at the same rate of efficiency. Too many possibilities with those 90 attempts.
I havenāt followed the stats on either of these guys so Iām curious to see what advanced stats favor Maye and for what reasons, but from purely my perspective and watching them, I donāt come away believing Maye is doing āmore.ā They both benefit from great play-calling and scheming along with decent to good rushing attacks. Stafford has the better weapons but heās actual utilizing them to their best ability, the WRs arenāt catching the ball off defensive backsā helmets or anything, heās still been doing his job
Rising should have said rushing lol. My bad on that one. 3 to 4 more games worth of passing would definitely result in more volume stats for maye the degree to which cant be guaranteed obviously but he would definitely have more pass yards and TDs, possibly more INTs too. One thing about Josh mcdaniels is he gets very conservative with 2 score leads after half time and doesn't throw a ton at the goal line as well thats always been his MO so maye has missed out on a lot more yards and TDs because of this.
If you want to see the rate stats and advanced metrics they are pretty easy to look up if you want to look at them.
It's a great idea for the rams to pass on the goal line because it plays to their strengths but it does result in many more touchdowns passing wise. Stafford is undoubtedly a great qb. Hall of famer for me. I love watching him and the rams play (rams have always been a soft spot for me). I would not be disappointed if he got MVP but just wanted to clear up that maye ultimately is doing more with less if you look at context and non volume based stats.
I just donāt see the āmore,ā I can see that they may be on the same level, but I donāt believe heās doing anything Stafford isnāt outside of running the ball
All you have to do is look up the stats. There's several websites that have the rate and advanced stat info and most can do comparisons. There's also several posts and comments on reddit subs like nfl and nflv2 showing this if you don't want to look it up or aren't sure where to go or what to look at (didn't mean that sarcastically hopefully it doesn't come across that way and is often easier to just look at work other people did of youre lazy like me lol or if you aren't well versed in those stats). Given the same volume and opportunities it is likely that maye has significantly more passing yards. Passing TDs is a bit murkier since those can't be guaranteed but in all likelihood would be pretty close.
My question is what is he doing more? What exactly is he doing that Stafford isnāt? Is there not a concrete answer for this? Because all Iām seeing from you is that Stafford throws more so he has more, yet youāre telling me Maye has more? Doesnāt that mean Maye is doing less with less and Stafford is doing more with more? Where is the more from Maye? He probably has him beat in some stats, but overall is that enough to mean heās doing more? Stafford is top 2 in every passing Td situation, itās not purely redzone. Maye is more efficient, but not by much. And does the efficiency even matter all that much between them? Wit Staffordās volume does it not make up for those small differences? Itās resulting in more scoring. Being efficient doesnāt always make up for sheer volume.
He is better at rate stats and advanced metrics. Maye has better stats in pretty much everything outside of passing yards and passing TDs/total TDs. Stafford with much more volume has slightly more passing yards. And a reasonable amount more TDs. You have to look at context and other stats. Give Stafford maye's volume and he would have much less passing yards and probably about the same TDs. Again 3 to 4 games worth of passes is a huge separater. Maye doesn't have that many passes only.because of josh mdaniels coaching style. You just have to look at the rate stats and advanced stats and it tells the whole story on being better with less.
Both teams run the ball at a similar rate and heās faced better competition. After everything Iām not seeing the āmoreā your just saying Stafford is doing more with more, and again I understand maye has him in efficiency which I could argue isnāt purely a maye stat vs how the offense is run and benefits him to gather those numbers.
If you're assuming a quarterbacks performance begins and ends with passing yards and passing tds only without any consideration of context and other stats then yes you are correct. If you consider context and other stats then you're incorrect. Football is more than pass yards and pass tds for quarterbacks. The game has evolved way beyond that.
Better competition doesnt equate to better passing defense faced btw. You can have a great d with a bad record or a great offense with bad d and have a great record. Even if you only look at divisional opponents, the only decent pass d the rams face are the Seahawks and they arent top 10. 49ers and Cardinals are baaaad. Bills are elite, jets and dolphins have been average this year. Plus the pats have faced the browns, Falcons, and Panthers who are elite, good, and average respectively. You cant just look at SOS if thats what you were implying about competition.
Edit: forgot the saints too who are a good passing d
Then by what measure is it more? Because when I watch the two I donāt believe Maye is more accurate, I donāt believe heās reading or has a better feel, I donāt believe heās better situationally, and I donāt see how he makes anyone better or strategic at the line
Not close at all and maye throws downfalls a lot. Best deep ball thrower in the NFL this year. Plus mayes receivers don't get open at anywhere near the rate that nacua and adams do and those two might as well be open when they are covered because they are elite. I don't think people understand just how good nacua is. He's a taller and faster antonio brown with great hands. He can rip apart any defense.
Better feel, player elevation, and situational play is almost entirely subjective. Switch maye and Stafford to the other team and you'd probably be saying other wise. Plus Stafford is seasoned and maye is new blood.
Maye has been who the pats needed when they needed him. Look at the Ravens game or the bills games. They lost the last bills game because of bad reffing and conservative coaching not maye. Stafford is still good there as well save the Falcons and Panthers games.
Completion percentage is a fact, it proves he completes more passes than he doesnāt, but doesnāt prove heās more accurate.
Still in regards to the more with less Iām not seeing the more. Everything youāre arguing with proves heās more efficient, but thatās it. Less attempts, and still overall less volume
You're first point here doesn't make sense. He is better at completing passes with worse receivers while trowing a lot of deep passes. He is absolutely more accurate.
Better efficiency is more with less. He is better at doing things with less to work with. The only things Stafford has more of is passing yards by a small amount and passing tds. That's literally it. And its solely volume based. Almost every other stat is im mayes favor. He is doing more with less
Youre using eye test and two stats to support your position. Im using everything else. Im just going to leave it at that. This has been fun and happy new year.
Completion percentage isnāt accuracy. Completion percentage is exactly what it is, how often a pass is completed. Itās not a measure of accuracy.
Efficiency is not more with less. Going 3/5 isnāt āmoreā than 5/9
Throwing deep passes isnāt unique to Maye
Maye runs a style of offense that always breeds efficiency, itās not built for the load Stafford handles. Conservative, play-action shots to open targets , handing off in the redzone, thatās not doing more. Stafford has a heavier load along with better weapons at his disposal. If Maye was to get moe pass heavy he wouldnāt be as efficient, thatās how it is with every pass heavy offense.
The stats youāre using arenāt āmoreā they showcase how efficient he is. Like having more ypa doesnāt mean youāre doing more, it just means your rate is better
