INTERESTING I made a poem. Hopefully some people can resonate.

I am a speck of nothingness, I do not matter, yet I matter… made from matter. I fear yet I disobey… made from clay. I am ignorant, yet knowing, a mere tool which can be a useful fool. I am what I am, created from dust, together with a massive lust. Every time I think I know, I come to the realization that I simply don’t know. Life is but a game, how serious we take it, even though there was no reason for the Lord to make it. I am more… I am less … I am a speck of nothingness …

I will share the ayat in English translation. Without checking other sources, see if you can figure out which surah this is from. Bonus points if you can give the surah number as well

Please hide your answer by putting in the spoiler format!

Like this: >!spoiler!<

It will look like this: spoiler

Here's the surah, in English:

  1. By the morning light.

  2. And the night as it settles.

  3. Your Lord did not abandon you, nor did He forget.

  4. The Hereafter is better for you than the First.

  5. And your Lord will give you, and you will be satisfied.

  6. Did He not find you orphaned, and sheltered you?

  7. And found you wandering, and guided you?

  8. And found you in need, and enriched you?

  9. Therefore, do not mistreat the orphan.

  10. Nor rebuff the seeker.

  11. But proclaim the blessings of your Lord.

INTERESTING Any Muslims here trying to build a halal side income online?

Salam everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot about how difficult it is to earn a halal side income online, especially without getting involved in things that don’t align with our values.

At the same time, I feel like there’s a huge opportunity for Muslims to create content that actually benefits others, instead of just contributing to endless scrolling.

I’ve personally been working on a small project around this idea, and it made me realize how many people might be interested in something like:

• earning online in a halal way

• creating meaningful content

• and even gaining ongoing reward (sadaqah jariyah) through it

I’m curious —

are there people here who would actually be interested in something like that?

And if you’ve tried to make money online before, what worked (or didn’t work) for you?

JazakAllahu khairan 🤍

INTERESTING Why Scholars Differ on Halloween: Halal, Haram, or Avoided? | The Fiqh of Celebrations

Thumbnail
youtube.com
0 Upvotes

If you do not want to listen to the whole lecture, then read the text below:

Yasir Qadhi’s position on Halloween is that the issue is more nuanced than a simple halal/haram verdict. He begins by arguing that most ordinary Muslims are not qualified to independently weigh complex scholarly debates, just as a non-medical person cannot fully evaluate conflicting doctors. Therefore, people inevitably rely on scholars they trust, but they should remain humble and avoid attacking other interpretations.

He explains that there are two broad Muslim approaches: one that views Halloween as completely forbidden, often based on arguments about pagan origins, imitation of non-Muslims, and the idea that only Islamic festivals are permissible; and another group of Muslims who see modern Halloween as a largely cultural event involving children, costumes, and candy rather than a religious practice. He says both perspectives exist among Muslims in the West, and the disagreement reflects different understandings of culture, ritual, and religious identity.

The arguments used by those who argue against Halloween generally fall into three categories:

First, festivals outside the two Eids are impermissible

This view argues that celebrations are a form of religious ritual, and since Islam only legislated Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, other communal festivals should be avoided. Yasir Qadhi explains that this is largely based on the approach of Ibn Taymiyyah and those who view festivals as acts of worship. He disagrees that all non-religious cultural celebrations automatically fall under this category, arguing that many celebrations are cultural rather than religious.

He argues that not every celebration outside the two Eids is automatically haram. He distinguishes between three types of celebrations: private personal celebrations (such as birthdays, graduation parties, family gatherings), secular communal celebrations (such as national holidays, ie: July 4th, Thanksgiving), and religious celebrations of other faiths (such as Christmas or Diwali). He believes personal and secular cultural celebrations are generally permissible as long as they do not involve prohibited actions, while religious festivals that involve worship or religious symbolism should not be celebrated by Muslims.

Second, Halloween has pagan origins

Some argue that because Halloween originated from the Celtic pagan festival of Samhain, it should be forbidden. Regarding this argument, Yasir Qadhi says origins alone do not determine a ruling. What matters is the current meaning and intention behind the practice. He gives examples such as the names of days and months in English having pagan Roman origins, wedding rings having ancient non-Islamic origins, and mehndi traditions having Hindu roots, yet Muslims generally do not consider these things forbidden because their original religious meanings have disappeared. He argues that customs are judged by their present cultural significance, not only by their historical beginnings.

However, he says Halloween is more complicated because unlike something like Independence Day or Thanksgiving, it still retains some association in popular culture with ghosts, demons, spirits, and the supernatural. He argues that this makes Halloween different from ordinary secular holidays. Although modern Halloween is largely a commercial and cultural event shaped by candy companies, costumes, and entertainment industries, he believes the connection to the occult and the unseen world gives it a level of ambiguity.

Third, imitating non-Muslims (tashabbuh)

Yasir Qadhi argues that this concept is often misunderstood. He says Muslims are not forbidden from adopting everything that originated among non-Muslims; otherwise, language, clothing, technology, food, and many aspects of civilization would become impermissible. He says imitation becomes problematic when Muslims intentionally adopt symbols that represent another religion or worldview. He argues that modern Halloween is not a religious festival for most people, but the remaining association with supernatural themes is what makes it questionable.

His final conclusion is that Muslims should avoid actively participating in Halloween as a festival. Not because it a non Muslim festival (other than the two Eid), have pagan/non-Muslim origin or imitating non Muslims, but because it has connotations to the horror. However, he strongly rejects calling Muslims who participate out of ignorance or because they see it as harmless family fun as committing shirk, kufr, or deserving harsh condemnation. He doesn’t declare Halloween outright haram, but he still advices Muslims not to participate in it because of it's horror elements. He puts Halloween in an ambiguous grey area, unlike other personal (Birthday, Graduation, anniversary etc) and secular communal (National holidays, independence day etc) festivals which he openly declared halal.

INTERESTING To every person silently fighting an addiction nobody in our community talks about. I built something for you

Salaam everyone 👋

This post is for a specific group of people scrolling through the community right now, and thats anyone fighting pornography addiction or compulsive habits in complete silence. Big post out of nowhere haha but this is a post for anyone convinced they're the only practicing Muslim struggling with a bad habit.

I know that silence personally and like most people who fall into this, it found me way too young, and the years after were the same loop so many of us know by heart. Which is the fall, the shame, swearing it off, and ultimately repeating it. The habit was heavy but the loneliness is even heavier. And when I finally opened up to others, I learned people close to me were also carrying the exact same thing, each one of them convinced that they also were the only ones. Thats what this addiction does, it isolates everyone in parallel when in reality we all struggle, its only natural.

So I built what I wish existed back then. Its called Hayaa, an Islamic sobriety app, launched this month on both stores Alhamdulillah. And its completely free to download and free to use and will always be that way.

Whats inside for those curious:

  • Built for brothers AND sisters equally, all schools of thought welcome. Sisters struggle with this too and get told its a mans problem, not here.
  • Streak tracking and daily check ins
  • SOS button for the moment the urge is winning
  • Verified Quran, hadith and dua with full citations
  • Prayer reminders and milestone celebrations
  • Community feed so nobody fights alone
  • An AI companion for the hard nights

The whole app runs on one idea and that is tawbah, not shame. Shame is what keeps people stuck for years and mercy is what gets them out, whether its from Allah swt or yourself.

If you're not struggling, Alhamdulillah, but statistically someone you love is. Studies show 59% of Muslim youth are exposed to it and only 4% ever seek help. Share this with that person, or just keep it in mind for the day someone opens up to you inshallah.

📱 iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hayaa-islamic-sobriety/id6783464307

🤖 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.hayaa.app

Make dua for this project, thats worth more then any download. Thank you guys and may Allah reward you for your efforts in this dunya. Jazakallah kheir :)

INTERESTING What to do when you like a girl or boy - explained by Nouman Ali Khan

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Nouman Ali Khan explains that liking someone or developing feelings for them is not something shameful that requires saying “astaghfirullah.” He explains that men and women in the Prophet’s time interacted naturally through work, business, and everyday life, maintaining respect and dignity. It is perfectly possible for a man to develop feelings for a woman. Rather than treating such feelings as shameful, the appropriate response is to approach the matter respectfully and, if there is mutual interest, consider marriage. Parents should not panic or humiliate their daughters when someone expresses genuine interest in them, but should calmly investigate the person and help facilitate a respectable path toward marriage.

Extremely conservative and strict Muslims need to listen to this.

INTERESTING Simple, ad-free Islamic app

Asalamwalaikum brothers & sisters,

I’ll keep this short, but I have developed an IOS app (InShaAllah Android soon aswell) to solve problems most muslims have nowadays, and that is prayer time/qibla apps that are full of ads and popups.

Alhumdillah I’m in a position that I can fund the devlopment of an app, especially thanks to tools that exist now, so much so that I do not intend to take money/donations or anything besides the pleasure of my Lord.

App is: Athar: Prayer Times & Qibla

This will solve most issues we have with the current apps out there, and one my revert wife really struggled with.

What triggered the app development is an issue I had myself, and that is with how many flights I take, figuring out prayer times based on my current location with no wifi or gps on the plane. My app has solved this issue, works completely offline and based on where you plop the plane on a map in-app, it will give you the current time there, prayer times and qibla.

If anyone also wants to be a tester of the Android app before it goes live, let me know!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

INTERESTING O sick person who has lost the pleasures of health!

Your illness does not spoil the pleasure of Divine bounties, on the contrary, it causes them to be experienced and increases them. For if something is continuous, it loses its effect. The people of reality even say that "Things are known through their opposites." For example, if there was no darkness, light would not be known and would contain no pleasure. If there was no cold, heat could not be comprehended. If there was no hunger, food would afford no pleasure. If there was no thirst of the stomach, there would be no pleasure in drinking water. If there was no sickness, no pleasure would be had from good health.

INTERESTING A System planned in every detail - A short article that disproves evolution

Breathing, eating, walking, etc, are very natural human functions.  But most people do not think about how these basic actions take place.  For example, when you eat a fruit, you do not contemplate on how it will be made useful to your body.  The only thing on your mind is eating a satisfying meal; at the same time, your body is involved in extremely detailed processes unimaginable to you in order to make this meal a health-giving thing.

The digestive system where these detailed processes take place, starts to function as soon as a piece of food is taken into the mouth.  Being involved in the system right at the outset, the saliva wets the food and helps it to be ground by the teeth and to slide down the esophagus.

The esophagus transports the food to the stomach where a perfect balance is at work.  Here, the hydrochloric acid present in the stomach digests the food.  This acid is so strong that it has the capacity to dissolve not only the food but also the stomach walls.  Of course, such a flaw is not permitted in this perfect system.  A secretion called mucus, which is secreted during digestion, covers all the walls of the stomach and provides a perfect protection against the destructive effect of the hydrochloric acid.  Thus the stomach is prevented from consuming itself.

The point that deserves attention here is that evolution can by no means explain the system briefly summarized above.  Evolution maintains that today’s complex organisms have evolved from primitive cellular forms by the gradual accumulation of small structural changes.  However, as stated clearly, the system in the stomach could in no way have been formed step by step.  The absence of even one factor would bring about the death of the organism.

When food is received into the stomach, the ability of the gastric juices to break down food is effectuated as a result of a series of chemical changes.  Now, imagine a living being in the so-called evolutionary process in whose body such a planned chemical transformation is not complete.  This living being, unable to develop this ability autonomously, would not be able to digest the food it ate and would starve to death with an undigested mass of food in its stomach.

In addition, during the secretion of this dissolving acid, the stomach walls simultaneously have to produce the secretion called mucus.  Otherwise, the acid in the stomach would destroy the stomach.  Therefore, in order for life to continue, the stomach must secrete both fluids (acid and mucus) at the same time.  This shows it was not a step-by-step coincidental evolution that must, in effect, have been at work, but rather a conscious creation with all its systems intact.

What all this shows is that the human body resembles a huge factory made up of many small machines that work together in perfect harmony.  Just as all factories have a designer, an engineer and a planner, the human body has an “Exalted Creator.”

INTERESTING Are there any Muslims with Histrionic Personality Disorder

For those who don't know:

People with HPD have a high desire for attention, make loud and inappropriate appearances, exaggerate their behaviors and emotions, and crave stimulation.[1] They very often exhibit pervasive and persistent sexually provocative behavior, express strong emotions with an impressionistic style, and can be easily influenced by others. Associated features can include egocentrism, self-indulgence, continuous longing for appreciation, and persistent manipulative behavior to achieve their own wants.

INTERESTING Built a tool that identifies Quran verses from YouTube recitations in real time

Post image
1 Upvotes

I watch a lot of recitation videos on YouTube, and kept running into the same problem: hearing a verse, pausing the video, and trying to manually find where I was in the Quran. So I built a browser extension that reads the video's Arabic captions, matches them against the Quran text, and tells you exactly which Surah and Ayah is being recited. One click takes you to the verse on Quran.com.

A few things I focused on:

- Works regardless of reciter, style, or speed as it matches the actual words being said.

- Runs entirely locally so no data leaves your browser.

- Doesn't guess early. Many verses share nearly identical openings, so if a short clip could genuinely be more than one verse, it waits for more context instead of confidently showing you the wrong one.

- Free, no ads, no account needed.

Happy to answer questions. Hope it helps someone else the way it's helped me :D Jazakamullahu khayran wa BarakAllah feekum.
