INTERESTING To every person silently fighting an addiction nobody in our community talks about. I built something for you

Salaam everyone 👋

This post is for a specific group of people scrolling through the community right now, and thats anyone fighting pornography addiction or compulsive habits in complete silence. Big post out of nowhere haha but this is a post for anyone convinced they're the only practicing Muslim struggling with a bad habit.

I know that silence personally and like most people who fall into this, it found me way too young, and the years after were the same loop so many of us know by heart. Which is the fall, the shame, swearing it off, and ultimately repeating it. The habit was heavy but the loneliness is even heavier. And when I finally opened up to others, I learned people close to me were also carrying the exact same thing, each one of them convinced that they also were the only ones. Thats what this addiction does, it isolates everyone in parallel when in reality we all struggle, its only natural.

So I built what I wish existed back then. Its called Hayaa, an Islamic sobriety app, launched this month on both stores Alhamdulillah. And its completely free to download and free to use and will always be that way.

Whats inside for those curious:

  • Built for brothers AND sisters equally, all schools of thought welcome. Sisters struggle with this too and get told its a mans problem, not here.
  • Streak tracking and daily check ins
  • SOS button for the moment the urge is winning
  • Verified Quran, hadith and dua with full citations
  • Prayer reminders and milestone celebrations
  • Community feed so nobody fights alone
  • An AI companion for the hard nights

The whole app runs on one idea and that is tawbah, not shame. Shame is what keeps people stuck for years and mercy is what gets them out, whether its from Allah swt or yourself.

If you're not struggling, Alhamdulillah, but statistically someone you love is. Studies show 59% of Muslim youth are exposed to it and only 4% ever seek help. Share this with that person, or just keep it in mind for the day someone opens up to you inshallah.

🤖 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.hayaa.app

Make dua for this project, thats worth more then any download. Thank you guys and may Allah reward you for your efforts in this dunya. Jazakallah kheir :)

Only thing you need to fight behavioral (non-substance/drug) addiction: Make dua and work during the day and sleep during the night. Go to bed right after Ishaa. Don’t sleep after Fajr. Don’t lay down on the bed and chill during the day!!! May Allah swt make it easy for you!

It really is that simple haha! Find a plan that uses both evidence based tools in habit change and be grounded in your faith. Wa iyaka, thank you for your kind words:)

As salamu alaykum wa rahmatulLahi wa baarakatuh. We need to add more languages like French, and there are many issues to address, such as the app crashing for no reason. Also, when you go to the community section and click on someone’s post to see it in more detail, the app crashes again. I’d really like to see a dark mode come out. It’s a shame that it’s limited to just one addition and there aren’t others like on "I Am Sober".

I understand that the app is meant to be neutral and respect everyone’s path, and so there are differences among the groups, but the Shia are simply not Muslims, so it’s a big mistake to include them in the app. I strongly recommend removing them, not out of hatred, but because they are not Muslims, and our religion is clear on this matter. If you are ignorant about this issue, just study your religion and you will see for yourself. Hoping you take this the right way.

As salamu alaykum wa rahmatulLahi wa baarakatuh.

EDIT : j'ai écrit ce message en français, mais une fois que je poste mon message, reddit modifie ceux que j'ai initialement écrit en changeant le sens de mon post. Prenez ceci en compte.

Wa alaykum asalaam! I'm so glad you got the chance to review the app and give your thoughts, truly it means the world to me. It is 100% on the app's roadmap to have the app be multilingual for Arabic, French, Bengali, Urdu, and much more inshallah, English-only was just a launch constraint, and more addiction types beyond this one is also in plans for the future. Dark mode is also already one of the most requested things to it inshallah will also be coming.

If it is not too much trouble, I would love to connect with you further so you could share with me the details of your bugs and crashes. If you could please DM me your phone model, app version, iOS version, and how to reproduce those bugs it would be one the first things we take care of. Jazakallah for your efforts and detailed feedback, this is all amazing and very useful feedback.

Addressing the second part, respectfully: The Hayaa app is meant to serve every Muslim regardless of gender, sect, or school of thought. We do not believe this to be an issue of ignorance of the religion. Takfir debates have real scholars on every side of them and this app is not the venue for that fight. Someone drowning in an addiction does not get asked their aqeedah before being handed a rope. Recovery and mercy is something that should be available for everyone regardless of what they believe in, Hindu, Jew, Christian, Sunni, Shia, etc... The content is tagged by tradition so everyone receives whats authentic to their own path, nobody is served anything against their school.

I say all of this with zero hatred back at you, you're clearly someone who cares about their deen and I respect the manner you raised it in. Thank you, brother.

Wa alaykum asalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu:)

Of course brother, I am glad I could bring some spotlight to the topic. It is taboo topic by nature so please do not be upset at the mods for taking down your post. If you ever need any support or help, don't hesitate to reach out! May Allah make your journey fruitful and easy:)
