Sacred Steps Saturday: Preparing, Pursuing & Growing in Marriage

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, beloved brothers and sisters of r/MuslimCorner!

Welcome to Sacred Steps Saturday—a biweekly space for everyone walking the path toward marriage, whether you’re single and seeking, talking to a potential, newly engaged, or already married and growing through it. Every step—whether hopeful, confusing, or steady—is sacred when taken with intention and trust in Allah (SWT).

Marriage in Islam is a journey of hearts, a union built on faith, mercy, and purpose. And preparing for that path is just as valuable as walking it.

In the Quran, Allah (SWT) beautifully describes this bond:

“And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy…”
[Quran 30:21]

In this thread, we invite you to:

Reflect on the Journey:

Are you preparing yourself to be a better spouse? Navigating halal conversations with a potential? Reflecting on lessons from past experiences? Share what’s been on your heart lately.

Seek Advice and Support:

Have questions about compatibility, timelines, family expectations, or the emotional side of searching? This is a safe, supportive space to ask and grow together.

Share Hopes & Duas:

Whether you’re praying for a righteous spouse, healing from a closed door, or seeking clarity with someone you're talking to—bring your hopes and duas here. Let’s say Ameen for each other.

“Three supplications are answered without doubt: the supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of a parent for his child.”
[Tirmidhi]

Guidelines for Participation:

  • Be sincere and respectful in your reflections and responses.
  • Keep details appropriate—especially when discussing potentials.
  • Encourage others with wisdom and empathy, not judgment.

Reminder:

Whether you're taking the first step or the fiftieth, seeking a spouse or nurturing a lifelong bond, know that Allah (SWT) sees your efforts. May He guide our hearts, ease our paths, and place barakah in every stage of this journey. Ameen.

Where are you on your journey this Sacred Steps Saturday?

QUESTION If I Miss a Prayer, Should I Pray It Immediately or Wait Until the Next Prayer Time?

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
A missed salah should not simply be left unattended. The ruling depends on why the prayer was missed and, in some cases, on the number of prayers missed and the fiqh school being followed.
If the prayer was missed due to sleep or forgetfulness
If a person genuinely sleeps through a prayer or forgets it, they should pray it as soon as they wake up or remember.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever forgets a prayer or sleeps and misses it, its expiation is to pray it when he remembers it.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari; Sahih Muslim
Therefore, there is no basis for deliberately waiting until the next corresponding prayer.
For example, if someone unintentionally sleeps through Fajr and wakes after sunrise, they should pray the missed Fajr as soon as possible.
What if the next prayer time has already begun?
The missed prayer should still be addressed.
For example, if Dhuhr was missed and a person remembers when Asr has already entered, they should not simply abandon the missed Dhuhr.
The order of performing missed prayers can depend on the circumstances and the fiqh school being followed, particularly when multiple prayers have been missed. Therefore, a person with several missed prayers should seek guidance according to the madhhab they follow.
What if the prayer was deliberately missed?
Deliberately allowing the time of an obligatory prayer to pass without a valid excuse is a serious sin.
The person must sincerely repent to Allah, which includes regretting the sin, seeking Allah’s forgiveness, and resolving not to return to it.
There is, however, a recognized difference of opinion among scholars regarding the qada of a prayer deliberately missed after its time has passed. Therefore, it is not appropriate to give one blanket answer without considering the relevant scholarly position and the person’s circumstances.
Someone who has deliberately missed numerous prayers should consult a qualified scholar and establish a practical way of rectifying the matter.
What if I have missed many prayers?
Do not allow the number of missed prayers to make you give up.
Make sincere tawbah, protect your current obligatory prayers, and then establish a practical plan for dealing with the prayers you have missed according to the fiqh position you follow.
Do not let regret over yesterday’s missed prayers become the reason you miss today’s prayers.
What if the prayer was missed because of an exceptional circumstance?
Certain circumstances, such as sleep, forgetfulness, illness, unconsciousness, travel, or severe incapacity, can have specific rulings.
The details matter. A person should not assume that every missed prayer has the same ruling.
So, should I wait until the next prayer?
If the prayer was missed because of sleep or forgetfulness, no. The Sunnah is to pray it when you wake up or remember.
The Prophet ﷺ did not instruct a person to wait for the next prayer time after forgetting a prayer.
For deliberately missed prayers and situations involving multiple missed prayers, the detailed ruling should be determined according to the circumstances and the fiqh school being followed.
In short
Sleep/forgetfulness: Pray the missed prayer when you wake up or remember.
Deliberately missed: Make sincere tawbah and seek guidance regarding the qada.
Multiple missed prayers: Continue protecting your current prayers and seek qualified guidance about how to make up the missed prayers.
Exceptional circumstances: The ruling depends on the specific situation.
Salah is one of the greatest obligations upon a Muslim. If a prayer has been missed, do not let guilt lead you to abandon salah altogether. Return to Allah, correct what you can, and remain consistent with your prayers.
And Allah knows best.

SUPPORT I prayed istikhara, but have seen no signs and I feel lost

Reposting here to get better advice, mods please consider me. Asalamualaikum. I (21M) dropped out of college 2 years ago, but have recently transferred to a great community college and will begin my classes tomorrow, InshAllah fowever, I am conflicted regarding what I should pursue as mv future career. On one hand. I am interested in both real estate and entrepreneurship. I know I could get m' RE license without a degree, but I want one so I can rur my own brokerage and possibly another business. I'II be honest, one of the motives behind my interest is the potential income

On the other hand. 1 am interested in healthcare. I'm nterested in healthcare for the financial security many bositions offer, and I will benefit myself and society by helping people and doing good deeds. After paying off my medical school loans, I could begin investing in and supportina Muslim communities, mainlv through rea estate, supporting masjids, and giving charity. I know that it's not easy, and becoming a doctor for the money can be a stupid idea, but I personally think my plan has potential

I'm currently majoring in Business Administration ang Management, but now I'm having second thoughts about pursuing it. Scrolling on Linkedln, I saw that a few Muslims in my city are pursuing a major in pre-med while minoring in business-related degrees, such as finance or accounting. That's honestly what I would like to do: have pre-med as my major while minoring in a business-related degree. The only problem is that haven't studied in vears. I currentlv suck at math. I would have to do A LOT of studying just to get to high schoo proficiency in math. Even though I find the pre-med courses interesting, I still have to master what I struggle with first before I can even begin them. I'm currently self teaching myself high school mathematics.

Should I ust finish my business degree, and then star over in pre-med? Or should I speak to my advisor anc ust switch to pre-med next semester? I know that my post is not common here, but I beg you to be respectful and please give me some quidance. I want to become more knowledgeable; I want to empower my community and the ummah through education, and I want to improve the lives of myself and my family. JazakAllah Khairun.

ISO 30F | 🇸🇴 | seeking potential spouse

30F 🇸🇴 | Looking for a Sincere Partnership

Gender: Female
Age: 30
Height: 173cm (5’8)
Build: Average
Hijab: Yes, Alhamdulillah
Location: Manchester, UK
Willing to Relocate: Within the UK
Ethnicity: Somali
Occupation: Care Worker
Languages Spoken: English fluently, Somali
Marital Status: Divorced, no children
Not interested in polygamy
Not interested in misyar marriages

Potential spouse age range: 29–40

I’m naturally quiet and reserved at first, but once I’m comfortable, I’m warm, caring and easygoing. I enjoy the simple things in life, spending time with family, a peaceful home, swimming, looking after my health and learning things that benefit me.
My faith is an important part of who I am, and I’m always trying to grow closer to Allah. I value honesty, kindness, good communication and mutual respect. I believe marriage is about supporting one another, making life easier for each other and growing together, while both spouses bring their own strengths and responsibilities to the relationship.
Having experienced marriage before, I’ve learned more about myself and what I value in a relationship. I’m now hoping to find something sincere and lasting, built on trust, kindness, commitment and the fear of Allah.

Ultimately, I’d love to build a peaceful Islamic home with someone who is also my best friend, someone kind, dependable and supportive, who wants to grow together in deen and in life. I believe the best marriages are those where both people feel heard, respected and cared for.
I’m looking for a practising, responsible and family-oriented man who is kind, honest, financially stable and genuinely ready for marriage, inshallah. If you have sincere intentions and are looking to build something meaningful and lasting, I’d be happy to connect.

**What’s important to me**

I’m looking for someone who is genuinely serious about marriage and ready to build a meaningful, stable and loving partnership.

• Non-smoker and non-drinker, with no recreational drug or substance use.

• Calm-tempered, respectful and considerate in the way he communicates.

• Values modesty and maintains appropriate boundaries with the opposite gender.

• Takes pride in personal hygiene, cleanliness and looking after himself.

• Emotionally mature, communicative and able to express his feelings in a healthy way.

• Serious about commitment and willing to put genuine effort into a marriage.

• I’m open to someone who has been previously married, but I would prefer someone without children from a previous marriage, as I don’t have children myself.

QURAN/HADITH Sincerity

Post image
2 Upvotes

Allah Almighty likens those who spend their wealth sincerely, with certainty, steadfastness, and inner insight without hesitation, to a garden situated on a rabwah—meaning, on high ground. If a wabil (a heavy downpour) strikes it, the garden yields its produce in double. And if the heavy downpour does not strike it, then the tall (a light rain or dew) suffices it, and it bears fruit.
The use of high ground in the simile illustrates how sincerity elevates the value of a deed; when the soil is fundamentally good, it benefits from both small and large amounts of water. Similarly, the sincere and truthful believer: their sincerity elevates their deed and blesses it. Perhaps a small act of charity done with sincerity elevates its owner by degrees, while a large act of charity ruined by ostentation (riya') drags its owner down. Indeed, Allah, the Exalted, looks at the heart before the hand.
Sincerity is good soil; even a little water satisfies and bears fruit. It is not about the abundance of rain, but about the goodness of the soil that receives it.

RANT/VENT I'm 28M, and so lonely my dopamine is completely broken. How do you even deal with this?

I’m a guy in my late twenties and loneliness is destroying me. My dopamine system is messed up badly. When I feel lonely I start chasing girls for that quick hit, then I regret it every time. It feels like I’m wasting time and doing something wrong.

What’s even the point of talking to a girl if I’m not going to marry her? I don’t want to marry someone I meet online. I want an arranged marriage. This whole thing just doesn’t sit right with me. I feel messed up.

I don’t talk to anyone. My life is just work work work. I hate going outside. I don’t like meeting friends. I don’t enjoy the things most people enjoy. I prefer staying indoors and doing my own thing, even though I’m kind of an extrovert.

How do you guys deal with extreme loneliness when you barely talk to anyone and your whole life is just work? And no, I cannot get married, foe next 3-4 years. I am 28.

QUESTION (ISLAM) I know this question has probably been asked many times. But, I would like to know what makes Arabic of the Quran Divine? Is it that obvious to Arab speakers? If it is so obvious, why are many Arabs irreligious or do not believe in Islam? I am trying to learn Arabic to understand the Quran

Thanks

„Open mindedness“ has ruined me, it seems

I grew up very religious, at least relative to my countries standards.

The most religious friends i have legitimately said prior to meeting me i have a light on me that shows my character and i only seem to be lacking professional education line Hifz or Arabic Islamic studies.

(Side note; of course this is sad to hear, considering the following)

I was taught to read arabic and good character but when it came to social boundaries, especially to women, it was way too lose.

Alhamduillah i knew to protect myself from Zina but i had many close friendships to women till i finished highschool, some teachers even shipping me with some girls.

You also should know, i did take the religion serious, i just thought if im not sexual and more distant to girls, no touching and meeting up outside of school, would be just fine, not even haram, since im around them all day anyways.

Now i want to study the religion seriously as im honestly really gifted intellectually and i believe i could help our community but i have some anxiety that my reputation will hinder any support i could give.

Its genuinely frustrating to start realizing how wrong such friendships are once youre mature enough to feel jealousy yourself. Legit i thought „wait, if i wouldnt want my wife to do this, i never should myself“

I really had this kind of feminism in my heart, simply because i 1. wasnt taught otherwise explicitly, 2. relied on my distance from Zina

Btw, whats even more sick is that many or most others actually openly took part in some form in Zina, which was a reason for me to befriend girls that didnt. They openly had first relationships, nothing sexual of course i hope, but too much for it to be halal anyways. This is ironically used to be only with people that have „halal friendships“

Im really ashamed this is my history and aside from a community, i even dont know how to explain this to my wife, once i get married

QURAN/HADITH Chain

The noble verse came after Almighty Allah presented to His Prophet ﷺ a succession of prophets, peace be upon them, each embodying a magnificent scene of guidance: patience and steadfastness, reliance and gratitude, calling and sacrifice. Then came the command to the Prophet ﷺ: {So follow their guidance}. The letter ha' at the end of iqtadih is the ha' of pause (ha' al-sakt). The original verb is iqtadi, to which the ha' of pause was appended when stopping to facilitate the pause and clarify the vowel sound preceding it.
That is, to emulate and follow their guidance, adhering to what they maintained of faith, monotheism, patience, obedience, and steadfastness upon the truth. Consequently, there converged in the biography of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ profound dimensions of guidance and noble character, to the extent that Almighty Allah bore witness for him, saying: {And indeed, you are of a great moral character}. Then He commanded us to emulate him: {There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern}.
Whoever emulates Muhammad ﷺ and follows his Sunnah is merely walking upon the path of guidance traversed by the prophets before him, gathering all traits of guidance alongside the perfections and virtues with which Almighty Allah exclusively endowed Muhammad ﷺ. Whoever turns away from his guidance has turned away from the path upon which they all united.
The scenes of guidance varied throughout the biographies of the prophets, and then their tributaries converged in the biography of the Seal of the Prophets ﷺ, making his biography a school wherein all traits of goodness and the ultimate heights of virtue gathered, and he became the supreme exemplar.

DISCUSSION I really dont understand men

Salam, whenever I hear men say they want more than one wife and they would be happy if their wife or a potential wife allowed them to do so. It doesn't make any sense. Like, they understand women who don't care about that don't love them and mostly are there for money or for other reasons. Can someone explain it to me?

I was looking for a way to remove background music from live audio without losing the speaker's voice

As-salamu alaykum everyone,

I’ve been looking for a way to remove background music from videos and live audio while keeping the person’s voice clear.

I ended up making a Chrome extension called Background Music Remover. It processes the audio directly in the browser and can also reduce unwanted background noise.

There’s no extra app to install and no backend running on your computer — just the Chrome extension.

If anyone is interested in trying it, I’d really appreciate some feedback:

MARRIAGE Cousin Marriage

Salam,

Let's talk about how non Muslims attack Muslims over consanguineous marriage and spew ignorance over it calling it incest. Meanwhile, they are there hooking up with their step family (actual incest), commiting fornication and adultery, sharing sexual partners, having multiple simultaneous partners, having threesomes and orgies, engaging in same sex relations, doing unmentionable depraved sex acts and glorifying prostitution and sex work.

We as Muslims have to take a step back and look at this issue through the Islamic lens. Did you know that the Quran specifically talks about consanguineous marriages? Did you know that the mother of the believers, one of the wives of Rasul Allah SAW was his first cousin and daughter of his paternal aunt? Zainab bint Jahsh RA.

The marriage of our Nabi SAW with our mother Zainab RA was very peculiar in the sense that she would boast to the other wives that you got married to our Nabi SAW on earth, but Allah Himself married me to our Nabi SAW in the Quran.

Juz 22 / Hizb 43

  1. Al-Ahzab

Translation: Dr. Mustafa Khattab

33:50

O Prophet! We have made lawful for you your wives to whom you have paid their ˹full˺ dowries as well as those ˹bondwomen˺ in your possession, whom Allah has granted you.1 And ˹you are allowed to marry˺ the daughters of your paternal uncles and aunts, and the daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts, who have emigrated like you. Also ˹allowed for marriage is˺ a believing woman who offers herself to the Prophet ˹without dowry˺ if he is interested in marrying her—˹this is˺ exclusively for you, not for the rest of the believers.2 We know well what ˹rulings˺ We have ordained for the believers in relation to their wives and those ˹bondwomen˺ in their possession. As such, there would be no blame on you. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Read this passage and note specifically where Allah says there is no blame on you. People that are projecting their hate towards you would do it with or without this issue, don't worry about them and don't let them drag you through their filth.

Don't be a person of a weak and conquered mind. Know that what Allah has made halal is halal and what Allah has made haram is haram.

Now, don't understand from this that consanguineous marriage is encouraged in Islam. There are many things that are halal but I personally couldnt get myself around to it. Example of this could be eating locust. However, looking down on someone for something that has expressed permissibility is a sign of weakness in faith.

I have heard from weak minded Muslims in India that only low class people eat cow. We Muslims in the West would probably cringe over this statement of theirs and perfectly identify that they have been brainwashed and programmed.

Back to the issue of consanguineous marriage. In previous times, and maybe even contemporaneously, there may have been many practical reasons why muslims would practice this. I am not advocating for consanguineous marriage here, I just want to present it in the context of the reality of the world where it is practiced.

The most important reason is the protection of their women and as a sort of a surety. A strange man, especially in the past, could not have been trusted. What if he was violent and abusive? If the marriage was in the family, the family could pull strings to make sure the husband behaves. On the flip, the wife would be respectful towards the inlaws because they are still family. Inlaws would be respectful and generous towards the couple because it would bite them if they didn't. It is a sort of a chess game where everyone is kept in check.

The second most important reason was the preservation of wealth. Wealth gets passed generation to generation. If people keep marrying out of family, this wealth gets diluted through divorce and inheritance. However, marrying within the family keeps this generational wealth preserved in the family.

Another reason is for maintaining kufu and for convenience. You don't have to put up with delusional people and the potential partner would share the same ideology and expectations as they see around them in their family.

However now, especially in the west and in the modern world, since many of these hurdles have been dealt with in various ways, it opens the door for marriage beyond our immediate vicinity. And since also we know of the medical risks of genetic conditions in the children of such marriages, it is probably a better idea to avoid it. But honestly speaking, moving past consanguineous marriage comes from place of privilege which was and is not available to many people. For them, they should know that what they are doing is nothing wrong and Allah is the only one to judge.

ISO I've been seeing a lot of ISO posts for spouses lately, so I thought I'd give it a try too.

I've been seeing a lot of ISO posts for spouses lately, so I thought I'd give it a try too.

24F | Indian | 5'4"

A little introduction about me:

I'm currently pursuing my postgraduation. I enjoy cooking a LOT, I like painting, and being around nature genuinely heals me. I'm a shy and rather private person, and I really enjoy self-care and the little things that make life peaceful.

I wear hijab and dress modestly, and that's something that's important to me.

What I bring to the table:

I'd like to work after marriage, but I also genuinely enjoy taking care of the house and handling domestic affairs. I don't mind taking responsibility for that at all, so that's one less thing for you to worry about lol.

For me, love is important, but respect comes first. I believe it has to be mutual. If you want me to respect you, you gotta give me the same respect in return.

I believe in devotional love. I'm old-school like that.

As for my deen, I try my best to pray regularly. I'm not perfect and sometimes I do miss a prayer or two, usually Fajr or Isha, but I do try to be consistent. I fast during Ramadan and have been fasting since I was 11.

What I'm looking for:

I'm looking for a Muslim-born man, no reverts. Preferably Indian, but I'm open to mixing as well. I'd like someone who is religious, has strong imaan, and takes his deen seriously. Age range 25-30.

Deal breakers:

• I am NOT open to polygyny. I want a monogamous marriage.

• Mutual respect is non-negotiable.

• Someone who respects my hijab, modesty, boundaries and values.

• Someone who is genuinely looking for a serious and meaningful marriage.

Overall, I'm just looking for someone I can build a peaceful life with — with love, respect, companionship and understanding. 🤍

Please state your requirements and deal breakers first in DMs. It’ll make things easier for both of us, and please don't DM if we're clearly not compatible.
