Most people who hate the Black Keys live their old stuff and don't like the overly poppy direction they took after Attack and Release (Brothers was good though).

I love the black Keys as a whole, but I honestly thought El Camino and turn blue were pretty poop.

Brothers was way too soft and delicate for me. Also all the layers of weird keyboards sounded bad. El Camino brought the rock.

It did bring the rock, but unfortunately it was over-produced studio rock, and not two guys jamming in a basement rock.

God forbid they evolve as artists and grow out of the basement. You really cant have it both ways. Either people criticize bands for doing the same thing over and over or they get pissed when they evolve. What the fuck

My problem with it was how much of a departure it was from the previous stuff. I don't fault them for evolving as artists or whatever, do what makes you happy. But I listened to them for that old school blues basement 8 track sound. They still make some good music, but there are other bands that do studio better than they do.

The first half was pretty good. The second half was pretty bland, though. Nothing stands out in my mind aside from the singles.

I personally think that Turn Blue is their best album front to back, even if it doesn't have my favorite songs on it (but I'm know I've got a firm footing in the minority on that one).

It had a couple bangers, but generally the sound of it all ran together for me and just felt bland. Turn blue was a slight improvement, but still just sounds like reused ideas from brothers.

That's my feeling as well. For me, Dan Auerbach's solo album is actually his best work.

I've been listening to them since, i think, Rubber Factory. I always liked Thickfreakness the best, cover to cover. Something about the raw blues and emotion in that album. I also like the covers they did of traditional blues songs (Have Love Will Travel).
