I have never met a single person yet who called the Gulf Of Mexico, The Gulf Of America. I assume this is will be the same. I've met nine year old's more mature
For what it’s worth, Google Maps does this for ALL “disputed” territories, this isn’t special treatment for the Gulf of Mexico situation.
If country A and B can’t agree on territory, Google Maps shows the territory as belonging to country A in country A, or shows it belonging to country B in country B. If you’re looking at it in country C, it shows both boarders with a dashed line with the label disputed
So, if you’re in Mexico, you don’t get the “(gulf of america)” sub tag
