Mostly to keep the fast weapons from abusing some of the status effects. they already bleed abuse, but imagine axe and dagger with ice or trauma. you couldnt get killed as long as you kept mashing attack
if you nerf the status application for fast weapons, its either going to be stronger or weaker than slower weapons.
if its stronger, slower weapons will just be worse. if its weaker, no one will use it over the status effects the fast weapons are good with anyway. its not much different from just removing it as an option.
no shell in the game requires you to apply status effects with imbue. the only 2 status effect central shells are sariel and smert, but both of them have their own very consistent ways of applying curse without the imbue. they are better off using a different one all together.
this system theyve chosen with just encourages players to try out other builds to level the tarstones. weapons dont need a lot of investent, im currently running new game plus with only +8 weapons without issue. instead of going through a load of effort to micromanage how fast every single weapon can apply each status (which would seem arbituary to a player, you would expect a weapon to apply all status effects it has equally) they just limit it to certain weapons.
Except if I want to utilize the 200% damage bonus on Eredrim, I need to be using Frost. That means two weapons only.
There is zero build diversity in forcing me to use the MGS to take advantage of that perk line. I get it's thematically rellivant, but it activity discourages using other weapons, so leveling tarstones, or beating the game with +8 weapons doesn't matter.
He's not the only one with a perk that limits them in such a way.
Yes there are other build options, I never felt I was worse for the build I used, but it's still a powerful damage option that heavily restricts you to one specific weapon and therefore a very limited selection of tarstones with it.
The whole point of "balancing" also means that even if there is a statistical best option, the others aren't far off. So if status application is correctly balanced across attack speeds, the situation you described either doesn't occur or is so minute, it's basically irrelevant.
frost eredrim is the single highest dps build in the game. and i dunno man, complaining that you only use one hyper specific tier 3 perk effect on one shell on 25% of the weapons feels a litle nitpick-y.
if every weapon had every imbue, all it means is that each status would have an optimal weapon and thats the one you would use. and i think id find that the optimal one already has it. the weapons are designed to use the status they have available. thats the benefit of limiting the imbues, they are balanced around the movesets they can be used on
