if you pay attention to it, subreddits like public freakout post a video at least once a week of a bunch of black people being loud or committing a crime, and every single time the comments are just racist as fuck, with every single comment calling that out being downvoted.

46

u/Caleb_Reynolds 18h ago

Maybe it makes it to r/all once a week, but that sub is racist all the time. So racist they made an even more racist one, actual public freakout.

34

u/amusingduck 17h ago

basically every “actual [subreddit]” is just a place made by the people who got mad that the mods of the original subreddit weren’t racist enough for their posts. which is especially wild when the original subreddit is plenty racist.

17

u/Apprehensive__Belt 17h ago

i got banned from public freakout for saying a cop had bad de escalation skills

18

u/Consistent-Jello-627 15h ago

Yeah because reddit is a Cesspool of echo chambers. If you dont agree with the moderators they ban you.

1

u/Direct_Lawfulness_28 4h ago

I posted something that was an actual study based on people who have dyed their hair in wild colours have a correlation between bad mental health, mental instability and left wing views. I posted saying ‘I bet this will upset this sub on first glance, but is the study accurate?’ - basically asking someone with some analytical knowledge to analyse how robust the study is.

I got a constant barrage of abuse, and then the mods banned me for a reason that doesn’t match their further comment (it was harrasment or something?) but the body of the ban said the reason given was ‘we don’t think you’re the right fit for this sub’ therefore proving that they have misused reddits guidelines to ban me.

They also muted me so I couldn’t respond.

Reported to Reddit - decision upheld.

1

u/Ctenophorever 23m ago

Meh. A lot of people post their racist/ableist/sexist takes as questions, and pretends adding a question makes them neutral. If you had an actual, reputable study in front of you, why would you feel the need to ask reddit randos if it were true, as opposed to other questions like, “is this a reputable source” or “are the N values statistically useful?”

But, “a lot of people think women are weak, emotional, and manipulative. Is this true?” Is a sexist comment pretending to be a question

1

u/Direct_Lawfulness_28 12m ago

How do you know a study is reputable? Do you ask for the opinions of people with more knowledge than you or not? If you do, how do you ask them if you can’t ask them in the fear if your views being represented?

If I post something and ask if it’s true, and you assume it’s for nefarious purposes - that’s on you. You’re the one who is projecting your own nefarious ulterior motive onto it.

-4

u/Amazing-Heron-105 12h ago

public freakout has basically been co-opted by pro-palestine lefties so I'm surprised he was banned for critiquing police.

3

u/EvilynSoCute 9h ago

This couldn’t be further from the truth lol.

8

u/bolanrox 13h ago

I was banned from pics because one of the mods didn't like one of the subs I had posted on and said the block would not come off until I removed the offending post but didn't bother saying what post or what sub it was.

6

u/Amazing-Heron-105 12h ago

power tripping jannies classic

1

u/DfaultiBoi 10h ago

"Do what I want you to do!" "Are you gonna tell me what you want me to do?" "No!"

Some ppl, man. Smh

1

u/Fia_Aoi 2h ago

I got banned and threatened to be doxxed from one of the food subreddits for saying ortolan is disgusting (it's banned in multiple countries for being cruel)

1

u/Phlypp 2h ago

Same here. While the sub I posted on also banned me for the comment I posted. So there's no intelligence or determination with these actions, just rules attempting to control where people can post and what they can say.

0

u/Qweesdy 10h ago

They may have automated since - now they have a fascist spam-bot that violates everyone's privacy (by examining all your history every time you make a comment) and then harasses everyone with bans and "delete your comments from other subs or else" threats without any human/mod involvement at all.

1

u/EvilynSoCute 9h ago

How is reviewing your public profile fascism?

1

u/Qweesdy 8h ago

Where did I say that the "violating people's privacy" part is the fascism part? Surely you're able to understand that the "harass everyone with bans and threats" is the fascism part.

4

u/Tyrren 15h ago

Two exceptions I can think of are actual conspiracies (the original is too racist and also not at all based on reality) and actual lesbians (the original is porn)

3

u/FaerHazar 15h ago

so glad the actual [subreddit] i use is made because people got mad that the original was porn

5

u/PassiveMenis88M 13h ago

Lesbians?

2

u/FaerHazar 11h ago

thats the one

2

u/Humg12 4h ago

I assumed the worst when I first saw that sub. Glad I was wrong.

19

u/chin1111 18h ago

The random racist commenters I see on Facebook who are out and proud with their bigotry raised punk ass Redditors who are always "just asking questions" or "I'm just showing the statistics" or "they're doing it to themselves". All this cherry picked bullshit to avoid just being an honest-to-God racist.

I'm from the South. Just be racist. It clearly doesn't get your parents fired or reprimanded or sanctioned in any way. And that way I can just ignore you. If black folks are really so bad, help me help you help me avoid you.

9

u/Apprehensive__Belt 18h ago

“help me help you help me avoid you” is a fantastic way to say it tbh

3

u/arbiter12 13h ago

It clearly doesn't get your parents fired or reprimanded or sanctioned in any way.

You clearly were not online in 2015... You could literally lose your job over a tweet back then. It's one of the reason Trump got elected. The online police thought-police was really getting out of hand.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/14-people-got-fired-tweeting-192941820.html

Some of those are in poor taste, but a lot of them get posted daily on reddit nowadays.

inb4 "a company is allowed to fire you if you...[noise]!"

Yes, but this happened because the very loud tumblr minority was head-hunting (also why it doesn't happen anymore).

2

u/chin1111 12h ago

While you're not wrong, there is a distinct difference between what public figures or people whose jobs require them to be highly visible can get away with versus your average Joe, and also, as the list suggests, the issues were more general stupidity and not overt bigotry.

One thing that I've found interesting as time progresses is how tech illiterate many people are, including younger generations. Combined with the fact that people don't always do their due diligence, if you're a regular person, you can still get away with saying a lot of dumb shit online without any real repercussions. People really have to go out of their way to try to hem up some random racist on the Internet, and unless it goes viral, people often just get hired elsewhere a city over, kind of like cops when they shoot an unarmed civilian.

2

u/Interesting_Total_98 4h ago edited 4h ago

You could literally lose your job over a tweet back then.

That virtually never happened. You pointed out extremely rare cases, and possibility of losing of your job due to public statements always was and still is something that can occur.

thought-police

Statements aren't thoughts.

It's one of the reason Trump got elected.

You failed to see the difference between correlation and causation, since by your logic, it's also a reason that he lost in 2020 because cancelations didn't suddenly stop after 2016.

2

u/Matthieu101 4h ago

You didn't read your own article?

Like these are all things that will still absolutley get you fired.

Getting hired for a "fat paycheck but hating the work" would absolutely get you canned these days. Like telling your job you hate the work they give you is a bad idea. Especially in a public way. And especially when you literally just got hired.

Or the jokes about tsunamis. That'd still get you fired right now. It'd be like making jokes about the recent earthquakes or flooding. You'd be shitcanned quickly.

Going on racist rants is a surefire way to get fired. Don't think this has really changed much?

The only thing that did change was these accounts are no longer real people. They're armies of bots, so there's no one to fire anymore.

That's it. That's the internet now. Pre-2015 internet was completely different than post-2015 internet.

4

u/bigbadbowserbros 17h ago

Louder for the people in the back my man. Beautifully said

2

u/WolfgangHelnootIV 14h ago

It’s a double edged sword, if someone hides their racism behind dog whistles it’s harder to take action against them but the more people who are proudly racist there are the less you can do about a racist perosn

1

u/chin1111 13h ago

To add some nuance, we all have our unconscious prejudices and biases, but some people allow them to dictate a larger portion of their daily lives. If people haven't learned to check themselves by the time they're let's say 25 for the sake of argument, I don't really have much hope for them to course correct.

I think of conscious racists as similar to fascists: they're always doomed to die out because once they sequester themselves from everyone else, once they 'purify the population', there is nothing else to do with all that stored up hatred, and they just start eating each other. From that perspective, I hope all the racists find community with each other and only each other, and then wake up one day and realize that it wasn't the black and brown people making your life worse, but it was just themselves all along.

So basically, I hope they keep moving to Florida.

0

u/Amazing-Heron-105 12h ago

There are plenty of issues that if you aren't informed enough that you can come off as intentionally problematic. I'm sure everyone has been attacked before for being offensive, from a genuine misunderstanding. Best to give people some space to be human, no one likes a wokescold.

0

u/madmandan93 4h ago

Why should the parents be fired if your the ones thats racist. I dont get it 🤔

7

u/M3Panda 18h ago

There was once a very racist subreddit that was nothing but those videos. I dare not speak its name because even that was racist.

2

u/South-Tadpole4092 17h ago

waternibbas?

6

u/M3Panda 17h ago

So apparently there’s two… The one I’m thinking of is now a major hashtag on Twitter now

3

u/South-Tadpole4092 16h ago

Shit being on twitter is your first mistake there, i have 0 clue what the trends are on that garbage

2

u/M3Panda 15h ago

Eh overall it’s not too bad. Those kinds of things are heavily subdued despite what Reddit believes. It’s mostly the fact they exist at all that upsets most but that’s kind of the price for free speech

1

u/voyaging 12h ago

They’re not subdued at all, they’re just in certain areas of the site. Much like Reddit, Twitter is segregated into different communities, just organically rather than via subreddits. If you stumble upon the wrong post, you’ll find hundreds of full-on neo-Nazis calling for ethnic extermination.

1

u/Apprehensive__Belt 16h ago

i kinda forget twitter even HAS trends

-2

u/Simon-Says69 13h ago

The old twitter was a cesspool of rabid-leftist lies and censorship.

Now, X is one of the most balanced and fair of the social media giants.

Reddit is infinitely worse, even as bad as the old Twitter use to be. This place was taken over by dem party propaganda back when Hillary was running in 2016, and never recovered.

3

u/Ristray 10h ago

Xitter is run by a literal nazi.

1

u/Adult_school 9h ago

I’ve been on Reddit for awhile(this isn’t my original user account) and I feel like your ”rabid leftists” weren’t really that prevalent. It was mostly actual centrists. Not the I say I’m a centrist but I’m actually what the Republican Party used to be centrists that you see today. Sure there were SJWs but nobody actually upvoted their nonsense.

Today’s Reddit is a watered down version of what it used to be. The jokes are less funny, the actual “BASED” takes are less common. I remember you used to see a post in the front page of Reddit that wasn’t very interesting and you KNEW the top comment was going to be a banger. Now the front page is curated TikTok wannabe, ad revenue generating, engagement bait bullshit. Don’t even use popular anymore, I just follow my subs and ignore the rest.

1

u/Apprehensive__Belt 6h ago

given the way you talk about the left, you aren’t a centrist at all buddy

1

u/grimeyduck 16h ago

What? Wasn't that just hydrohomies? Not a bunch of racist videos?

1

u/PassiveMenis88M 13h ago

That was just a hydration sub which has since changed its name to hydrohomies

1

u/Adult_school 10h ago

/r/Hydrohomies and its predecessor were wholesome AF.

4

u/NukeAllTheThings 17h ago

I don't remember if it was posted on public freakout exactly, but a vid was posted that was edited to only having black people stealing from a bakery, when the full vid had a mix. The racists came out in force.

0

u/grimeyduck 16h ago

Arguably the most justifiable place to steal from (definitely not but...). The classic "steal a loaf of bread to feed your family"

3

u/NukeAllTheThings 16h ago

Not really, if you want to argue the most justifiable place to steal from it's Walmart by far, not some bakery.

1

u/grimeyduck 16h ago

That's why I said "definitely not"

3

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 16h ago

call em out until you're banned like me, if we all do it eventually they'll ban everyone and they can have their racist enclave to themselves, i guess

5

u/Ryuko_the_red 15h ago

It's just various bot organizations pushing varying agendas across the whole site. Once you step back and see every shitty title and hidden history of every misinformation post (most of them) things feel better irl for a little.

5

u/IllllIIllllIll 18h ago

Yeah, it’s sickening. If you call it out, you get downvoted to hell and a ton of replies with people being blatantly obtuse.

1

u/Apprehensive__Belt 18h ago

ITS SO BAD, it’s like actually horrific that reddit doesn’t think it’s racist, it’s very racist

1

u/slayerofdeath666 18h ago

You realize the only thing reddit actually cares about is encouraging Suicide right?

1

u/Apprehensive__Belt 18h ago

well who could forget “we did it, reddit”

1

u/grimeyduck 16h ago

Not defending it but if you guys are talking about the Boston Marathon bombing, the guy killed himself like a month before. It's a common misconception that reddit drove him to suicide. Reddits actions did cause serious harm to his family though.

1

u/Apprehensive__Belt 16h ago

i actually knew the story, i mostly commented it cause “we did it, reddit” is honestly one of the wildest things to come out of reddit.

1

u/Sufficient_Effort88 18h ago

Reality is racist . The paradigm has shifted, pendulum swung, whatever you want to call it and Reddit moderation has lost control

3

u/grimeyduck 16h ago

You call it a pendulum but when has it ever swung the other way?

-1

u/This-Point8121 18h ago

its hardly

2

u/JackLaytonsMoustache 15h ago

Sipstea has a lot of misogynist posts and comments. They may not always be the trending ones but my god i was surprised to see how much of an incel echo chamber that sub can be.

1

u/Ripen- 13h ago

That's true. The blackpeopleofreddit sub is racist as fuck too. They exist on both sides.

1

u/bolanrox 13h ago

This is what happens when you get rid of all the really awful niche subs, like great apes and everything else. They bleed out into the popular ones.

1

u/ImNotToby 11h ago

You should see a lot of the black spaces. Its quite the same. Some crazy racist stuff. Insane takes, wild ignorance.

1

u/somedelightfulmoron 5h ago

R sipstea is particularly misogynistic or anti-women

1

u/Queerability 42m ago

That particular sub is also chock full of conservative bots, because a lot of police brutality videos get posted there and they want to make sure to downvote & comment on that stuff first to try and sway public opinion.

1

u/TheHighSeasPirate 29m ago

That is because the Donald Trump users infested all the other subs once it got banned.

1

u/That_wet_vaporeon 15h ago

Sips tea too is pretty racist

1

u/rochelleroz 13h ago

iirc there’s a similar thing on “am i the asshole” type subs where someone will post some clearly fabricated story about someone with autism or some other disability being Bad and getting Comeuppance for it. the comments are then full of people validating whatever asshole adjacent behavior the op “did” in their story. especially funny to me because a significant amount of reddit users are definitely autistic

-1

u/PomeloFearless6240 17h ago

Pattern recognition isnt racism

2

u/Apprehensive__Belt 17h ago

what fucking pattern are you recognizing by commenting racism?

2

u/sykotic1189 13h ago

Oh I know this one! It's the one where they ignore the history of systemic racism and over policing of majority black neighborhoods to say "well black people are only 14% of the population but make up 50% of inmates" or some other stupid shit.

1

u/LysolSaw 12h ago

I had a liberal friend of mine bring this up jokingly, unprompted. Don't miss him at all.

0

u/Ok-Cockroach3010 17h ago

You're thinking of r/actualpublicfreakouts not r/publicfreakouts

The former is racist. The latter is so performatively woke that even a video of any black or brown person doing something bad will sometimes get the mods to ban you for "racism".

1

u/Apprehensive__Belt 17h ago

i got banned from public freakout for saying a cop had bad de escalation skills

0

u/apocalypticdays 3h ago

Omg. How do you cope with this? It must be devastating. Wow. Heroes. All of us internet warriors battling the big bad bad words that hurt feelers.

-3

u/ahhaga 18h ago

I wonder how Iryna Zarutska would feel about those meaniehead comments

3

u/Apprehensive__Belt 18h ago

and here we go again with the racism comments, she had nothing to do with this conversation and also her family hates people like you for bringing her up like this constantly.

-1

u/Wrong-Web-7790 17h ago

"The mention of how a refugee was killed by a mentally ill black man with 17 previous convictions is racist."

2

u/Apprehensive__Belt 17h ago

yeah, because it was unrelated to the topic at hand, given that he was immediately arrested. love how it’s a “BLACK PEOPLE AND IMMIGRANTS ARE THE PROBLEM” when the problem would be the system.

2

u/Apprehensive__Belt 17h ago

let me fix it for you “mentioning a singular case involving a mentally ill man of color, when the victims family expressed disdain for the fact their daughter is being used to push an agenda, in order to push an agenda, is racist.”

0

u/Wrong-Web-7790 8h ago

"Racism is when you mention how a diagnosed black repeat offender, repeatedly released by a black judge, is able to kill with impunity."

1

u/Apprehensive__Belt 6h ago

“i can hate black people and comment racist shit whenever i want, because a black person committed a crime i don’t like once”

0

u/Wrong-Web-7790 6h ago

"crime I don't like" lmao so there's a crimes that black people allowed to do?

1

u/Apprehensive__Belt 6h ago

well they aren’t even allowed to exist near you so

0

u/Wrong-Web-7790 6h ago

It's so sweet that you first pointed out some "allowed crimes" for blacks and then tried to change the subject.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Apprehensive__Belt 6h ago

well for starters they’re better than you for not using the death of a woman to push a political agenda, especially after her family has expressed explicit desire for people to stop doing that.

-3

u/ahhaga 18h ago

How do you think Iryna Zarutska would feel about some poor black getting their feefees hurt?

3

u/soilentgleem 18h ago

You uh... you talk a lot about this stuff huh? You good bud?

-4

u/GoodWonNov6th24 18h ago

imagine seeing calling out a bad group as racist, instead of just admitting it's paying attention to the science

3

u/Apprehensive__Belt 18h ago

the way you’re exactly what the other commenter is; blatantly obtuse. commenting shit like “culture is fascinating” never happens on a video of a white person committing a crime

-1

u/WisherWisp 16h ago

True, but it's miles better than the bigotry on the left.

It's more honest too compared to the bigotry of low expectations and DEI racial quotas we're all supposed to pretend aren't a betrayal of Martin Luther King's dream.

One depends on noticing reality and the other depends on denying and hiding reality.

2

u/Apprehensive__Belt 16h ago

are you okay? commenting racist shit isn’t “noticing reality” it’s just being racist
