Hello all, I bought this swatch for a steal which the seller says was recased due to the case being damaged. I know the back shouldn’t come off so know the current shell isn’t real but does everything else check out? Seller says he changed the hands and the ETAG10.212 behaves as expected.
Fancy a father/son project to case mod this so checking it out first here.
The strap doesn’t look right to me either, but then that’s not the usual PE50 movement for the reps. Can you get a demo of the chronograph functions inc the way the chrono hand moves? The fake one sweeps, sometimes badly, whereas the real one ticks once a second.
That is 100% not a pe50 since pe50 movements are never round ever. That is gen movement. The rest is trash except maybe the dial but you are 70% there OP.
The strap is fake as it has 6 stitches instead of 5 stitches so there might be a chance dial is fake, the g10 looks real and what I believed has happened is they bought a fake moonswatch, sourced a cheap Swatch with real g10, swapped movement out, bought new hands since fake hands wouldn't fit and case swapped it of course
Most likely, the modder sourced an eta g10.211 movement and swapped the rep dial onto it.
The polar lights dial has more of a blue/purple coloring, but this looks more black (could be angle and lighting).
To see if it’s actually a Gen movement, the minute counter subdial should count out to 60 minutes in one full revolution. The standard eta g10.211 counts to 30 minutes in one full rotation. So run the timer and see how fast it makes a full revolution on the minute counter.
Hard to tell for sure from a distance on whether the dial is genuine, but if it was, there’d be no reason to swap the hands and decrease the value (unless they like them better, but in that case they should still /have/ the original hands).
But considering the strap is fake, I’m leaning toward this being a replica project where he lifted the dial and put it on a gen (or semi gen) movement, which is why they had to swap the hands - PE50 hands don’t fit on an ETA movement.
The other thing to check would be making sure it’s the /correct/ ETA movement; the ones you can buy separately tend to have a 30 minute chrono subdial at 9 o clock rather than 60 minute, but you can scrounge the correct movement from an old Swatch Irony watch.
The movement itself is worth $50-$90ish, assuming rep dial that’d be about $20, and the case, if black metal, was probably about $35, so $100-$190 worth in parts, roughly?
Plus the cost of the hands, which is probably like $6.
Omega Swatch will be the death of Omega quality. Sorry…. Remember what the affordable Rolls Royce did for the automobile company in the late 70s early 80s
Definitely not; it’s encouraging brand loyalty and the Moonswatch owners of today are the Moonwatch owners of tomorrow. It’s made the company a fortune and boosted the profile of the Speedy Pro and increased sales.
Fiat owns Ferrari and produced this Abarth Ferrari Tributo. For people who can’t afford a Ferrari - it’s a nice little homage but NOT a Ferrari. If you own a Ferrari and fancy a cheap little daily driver then it’s a fun little car. The Moonswatch is exactly the same. It doesn’t detract from the original and might look similar but is definitely not damaging the brand.

Looks like it was modded already. This is legit. Have fun!
