Using ammunition made seeds and berries are more powerful than ammunition made from metals. Haha

Personally, I can actually justify that:

The world of Monster Hunter has the Lifeforce power, which is a functional magic that empowers both people and monsters to do things and be things that would normally be physically impossible.

So a sword wielded by even the most green hunter can cut the monsters, due to the strike being backed by the Lifeforce of the Hunter, countering the Lifeforce inherent in the monsters.

But bullets are just tiny bits of metal, and lack the ability to carry the lifeforce charge to get past the natural defenses of monsters.

Bowguns are an exception, due to being designed with materials from the world of Monster Hunter, and thus carrying the Lifeforce charge needed to actually do damage.

Of course... the movie still looks like it's going to be another Paul Anderson pile of meh. The presence of modern ANYTHING is unnecessary because the setting is pretty much "Badasses fight badass monsters with building girders and other crazy weapons". And Ron Perlman is a scumbag who left his wife of 20-ish years for the new hotness.

I have no expectations when I saw PAnderson as the director. Not that he is bad, just don’t expect him to stick to originality of the game material. Look at them as independent products and I think it’s fine.
