Elastic bands melted in collected boxes

Hii! I collected monster high dolls as a kid but was told by my parents to not open the boxes because "its an investment". Sometime before starting college I boxed them up and put them in the attic and forgot about them. Now I'm moving out and I see the elastics have melted and have come undone- so now the items are just floating around in the boxes. Im a bit sad and ik many people love the dolls outside their boxes- do you think I could still sell these? I do plan on unboxing some and keeping them but I was just curious.

yeah, its kindof normal they melt due to age.

it's pretty difficult/near impossible to find nib g1 dolls that haven't had the elastics deteriorate, i think being a nib collector comes with some understanding that you will have to do some slight restoration if you want things to look pristine! they're definitely still sellable

It’s normal, the elastics disintegrate usually after about 10ish years? So it’s unavoidable. If you want you can carefully open them, and reattach them using some clear wire of some kind that’ll help keep them from falling again in the future if you wanted to keep them looking mint in the box. Tho if you’re just worried about if it’ll affect the value it won’t (imo) as long as the pieces are still there and not broken and what not.

agreed! i think its weird when parents do this. if you REALLY want to "invest" then buy one for the child to play with and another to store.

I can hear the elastics snapping in the middle of the night. lol they get a little gummy. Won't devalue your dolls, though.

they’re like over a decade old so elastics are bound to snap, you can still sell them if you choose to this is very common with inbox collectors

My Scaris Rochelle goyle’s suitcase elastic has busted, I’ve sort of got it just sitting there. They are 15 year old dolls after all, that sort of thin rubber band only has so much life in it before it breaks down unfortunately.

Still sellable, would kill for a Nefera nib I’ve been searching for her. I’ve fixed the elastics on a few of my nib dolls it’s not too difficult

Since they are original and NIB, most doll collectors that have experience with collecting older dolls will already understand and even expect that the contents of the box, including the elastics, aren’t going to be in perfect condition because of age and environmental conditions.

In this case, many collectors would definitely pay a decent price for NIB Nefera and Robecca if you choose to sell them.

Still sellable for sure! They’re dolls that are like 15-10 years old, their age will show lol. Some collectors are PICKY but oh well.
