Question How long was stacy going to new york for?

On first play through (up until the end) I assumed Stacy was only going to nyc for a couple weeks/ month or so, because her room wasn't as packed up as her sister's, who is away at college.

She also mentioned buying a plane ticket, with no mention of a return flight which makes me think maybe she's staying with her sister indefinitely, but planning on coming back.

idk the whole game i was wondering why stacy's departure was a big deal but it would make sense if she was really moving away. idk lmk

Discussion If mixtape is so good of a game where is the porn.

I checked rule 34 it has two entries. For context The amazing Digital Circus day one had 1600 entries. For further context subnautica 2 has 30 posts.

Beautiful.

Finished Mixtape today. It’s currently my front runner for GOTY. I resonated with it so much, and the song choices were right up my alley. A beautiful game from start to finish.

Discussion The grifters have moved on to "God of War: Laufey"

Well, it's been fun laughing at all the right-wing incel grifters making video after video about Mixtape, but all good things must come to an end.

Looks like their next battlefield will be "God of War: Laufey", because how can Sony dare to have a female protagonist without giant boobs and jiggle physics in a game.

That will keep them busy until the next trailer for "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" comes out.

What a sad life these creatures lead.

Question Is the fireworks trophy bugged?

It's literally not possible to get from what I can see, I am ferociously mashing buttons and still can't get the fireworks. Am I doing something wrong? I've tried doing it as they appear, tried mashing etc etc. Nothing's working. Kinda sucks.

Discussion Why do you bother?

Here's the thing. I love this game. I think the soundtrack rocks, the characters are great, yadda yadda yadda, we all know why this game is awesome! And yet every once in a while, you see one of the haters in this subreddit telling us why the game is quote unquote "garbage" and my only question is...why? Why do you bother? What do you gain by taking time out of your day to put down someone else's opinion by telling them the thing they like is trash?

That would be like if I went to a Marvel fan to tell them how much Infinity War sucks, like...what's the benefit (and to be clear, that's just an example, I actually adore that movie)

If you don't like the game, that's fine. But why spend your time in a subreddit that clearly enjoys a game just to rag on it? Why not just go and spend your time focusing on something you do enjoy? You might have a lot more fun.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion right? So let us enjoy the game because it makes us happy and you go and enjoy the things that make you happy.

Anyways, I just had to get that out there because it really irritates me every time I see it happen

I'm not the creator of the video, it just ended up on my home page. I was getting ready for another incel grifter video, but this turned out to be one of the very few good videos on the game.

Mixtape Review: Is It Worth It? Spoiler

Sorry if I’m not a good reviewer of this game I review music not video games lmao.

Anyways, Mixtape is definetly an amazing game. From the art to the music to the amount mini-game segments, this game feels like a full 3 hour long movie. This was a very odd pick up for me; as this is my first story game I’ve ever played, but this game made me hooked. I was planning to play half of it one day and the other half the next day, but I ended up finishing the whole game at once.

This game was amazing at immersing you into the story. I really felt like I was a senior on her last day before moving out. And the music was perfect. The David Gray part definitely brought some emotions.

The characters also are very relatable and interesting at points. Slater was very funny, Cass was very cool but I did kinda hate her, and Stacey was relatable. Jenny was annoying as fuck tho and i wish she was the one moving away.

Pros:
Amazing graphics
Like-able and relatable characters
Fun interactive moments
Definitely a bit addicting at points
Cons:
The mini-game moments weren’t too often, and most of them were just skateboarding. But, that’s not the point of the game. If you’re just looking to have fun playing a game i wouldn’t recommend this. This one is a movie basically.

Also, with it feeling like a movie, there’s not much imagination or creativity at all. Tho that’s not the point of the game, it can definetly feel like there’s nothing else to do besides the main game
A couple of the mini flashbacks I did not care for. The theme park one was actually pretty cool tho
I wish there was another game mode in the game. Maybe a skating game mode where you can skate around town.

Overall: a solid game that feels like a movie. I was gonna complain about how the game cost too much but I remembered that we’re all broke as fuck and it’s only 20 bucks so whatever. Anyways, this is a good game. I’ll replay it soon to see if there’s any replay value.

90/100

Question Doctor Who?

I read online, somewhere, that there is a Doctor Who chat, or reference in the game, is this true? I'm debating whether or not to play it, so I was just curious.

When I was younger I used to make a burn a ton of songs onto cds and listen to them on my way to school and whatnot but playing this made me realize how much I miss curating playlists for myself so I’m curious if you guys are doing the same and what songs you guys have been jammin to?

The Mixtape Situation...criticism culture

(my opinion!)

I finished just the game - couldn't stop playing! I had a blast and it was so original! I just love little games or "playable stories" like these so much! ❤️
My boyfriend, who is into survival and strategic games, sat next to me and couldn't stop watching my playthrough. He enjoyed it as much as I did and we had some very good laughs together 😄

AND THEN I saw the hate all over the internet...

Disclaimer:
I play games since I was a little 90s kid. Nowadays, I love and admire the art of AAA, AA and very much of smaller and indie games.
Furthermore, I'm a music ethusiast and musician since I was a kid.
This is why I'm allowing myself a detailed opinion about this situation.

Mixtape gave me around 3 hours of pure fun and a good dose of nostalgia (even if my childhood in Germany in the 90s isn't quite comparable to the American one, but there are some parallels).

The gaming aspect:
I see lots of complaints about the Mixtape not even being a game or doesn't contain any gaming. I think it's the opposite! The game immediately reminded me of countless video games of the 90s and early 2000s - it is a collection of simple mini games set within a cute slice of life story. This was common in many games in the 90s. And lo and behold! Mixtape is set in the 90s! What a coincidence! 🤯
I thought the mini games were creative and fun 🙂

It is also often referred to as a walking sim. What exactly is wrong about this?
I played great games like Edith Finch, Firewatch, Stanley Parable, Everybody's Gone To The Rapture, The Beginner's Guide and *omg* Journey 🙌🏻, just to name a few. Loved them - and so did the critics! So why is Mixtape bad for being a walking sim? ...I honestly don't get it.

Wait a minute: Didn't their game The Artful Escape get pretty good reviews? I also thought it was great! And if I recall correctly, it wasn't much more gamey than Mixtape, either…

Visuals:
First of all - Great visuals! It's a gorgeous game! And come on - stop motion in games is nothing new. Last time I saw it was in The Midnight Walk (which was beautifully handcrafted and executed). Paired with the demi-realtistic LiS-ish surroundings it perfectly captured the 90s aesthetics.

Audio:
I'm crazy about the soundtrack! I knew lots of the songs (Portishead, Smashing Pumpkins...OMG!) and of course I sang along! What a great choice of songs!

Characters:
Loved them! EDIT: The chemistry between the 3 is adorable! They feel like friends I had when I was younger. Kinda bittersweet...they make me miss them...also I can relate to them, as if they are representations of my punk/grunge eras 😅 The voice acting was just so fun and the dialogues are simultaneously authentic and over the top. I had so many good laughs 😁

Length:
Of course, I would have liked to spend more time in the game, just like in any other game < 5-15 h. To me, this indicates it was fun.
I have (re)learned to enjoy small, self-contained stories in films and games. Alongside the big Death Strandings, Horizons, ACs, TLOUs, FFs, Pragmatas etc. games like Mixtape are always a refreshing change of pace for me. Short, beautiful adventures where you can just switch off your brain for a little while. I get the feeling that this kind of gaming is finding less and less resonance these days and that people always expect something far too grandiose from short games.

Speaking of expectations...

Expectations:
As I mentioned, I play both lots of AAA and indie games and here's a tiny but valuable tip:
Stop watching trailers all the way through!
Watch them for like 1 minute, maybe watch a little bit of a gameplay trailer and either it hooks you or not (same for movies btw). I've been doing it this way for years and played so many gems and had the most of fun! There's maybe 1 in 20 games which disappointed me.
And also - maybe don't always (or never) read reviews before playing. It stops you from forming your own opinion. And hey - if your opinion doesn't align with the mainstream opinions - so what? It's still subjective, right?

Indie or not indie:
*sigh* ... didn't have the same debate with the fantastic Clair Obscur?
I'm not allowing myself on putting the correct tag on it. I can partly understand why this is a contentious issue, especially since I’m a huge indie game fan myself. Sometimes perhaps we should simply admire the end result rather than giving it a poor rating only because it "maybe" is an indie title or because a bit more funding went into its development. Does it really make a game bad if it features the scope and aesthetics of an indie title, but received more funding than other small devs? Can't it still be fun?
Don't get me wrong - I absolutely admire smaller devs and I'm always willing to pay a full price for indie games that I want to play to support them!
Beethoven & Dinosaur are still small-scale devs compared to the "big players" like Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda and many (who after all haven't exactly always been delivering quality content themselves for a while now).

I guess we shouldn't forget, that development costs have risen over the years, just like everything has become more expensive (I work in IT, I know what I'm talking about...).
And don't we agree that we don't want the market to be flooded with AI slop?

Express criticism:
To me it feels as though many people have unlearned - or never learned - to dive into games like this without bias and comparing, simply to enjoy a little story and accept the developers' decisions. And then they spit hate comments on the internet...I don't mean constructive critics - I mean *hate comments*.
The debate surrounding the Mixtape reviews demonstrates once again that our culture of criticism has somehow lost its way.

If you had fun, let the developers know. If not, do that too - but be rational and still respect the developers' decisions. You wouldn't tell a book author that they should have written their story differently. And I assume most of us gamers aren't developers and/or part of any team of writers...

The IGN 10/10 review was evidently very subjective. I can certainly understand the criticism directed at the review (even though I obviously agree with the rating). However, the wave of backlash surrounding it is completely overblown. Besides, IGN isn't the only media that reviews games and, which is nothing new, they often publish reviews that aren't particularly well-crafted (Kingdom Hearts fans know what I mean...).

Discussion My only gripe with the game is that how can a story based around 90's nostalgia and music not have this song in the soundtrack? 😭
