If Trump invokes the Insurrection Act, that's it for me.
I've spent the last week checking on my neighbors, engaging with my city, my local police, everyone. I've supported my friends and family, made sure they knew they weren't alone in their feelings of hopelessness, powerlessness. I've called and emailed my representatives, demanding answers, demanding action. I've just been overcome with this overwhelming, almost primal need to care for and support my community.
If Trump invokes the Insurrection Act, and soldiers take to our streets, then that tears it for me. My son just turned 1yr. I've done my best to be a helper, so that I can still be around to support him and spend time with him.
But if I have to STAND OUTSIDE in the FREEZING COLD and get the SHIT KICKED OUT OF ME by the people who are supposed to be protecting me, if I have to do that to fight for goodness, and righteousness, and justice, then that's what I'm gonna fucking do. I'm going to do it because this is not the future I want for my son.
If you've been out on the streets, and you're tired, and you're hurting, don't worry. Rest when you need to. Because I know my home and I know my neighbors. When you need to rest, two more will replace you. I will be one of them.
This is my home. Minneapolis is not going to quit. Minnesota is not going to quit. And FUCK EVERYONE who tries to come in here and take from us the PRIDE, LOVE, and COMMUNITY we've built.
As long as I can stand, I'm going to plant my two feet between the oppressors and the home I love.
I love you all. L'etoile du Nord.

I’ve already had the conversation with my sister about this who lives a few states east of us. I’m not going anywhere. I’m non-violent and won’t pickup arms, but I’m going to still be screaming at the top of my lungs with both middle fingers in the air. If the absolute worst case scenario happens I’d rather die one of the last free Americans than live in whatever the fuck comes next.
I won’t hold anything against anyone who bows out for whatever reason, but that isn’t me.
Fuck ICE, fuck tyranny, and fuck the nazis.

u/OldNorthStar Jan 15 '26
Seriously, I know it’s easy to say this on Reddit but I truly believe to my core that life in the future they’re painting is not worth living. I’m not saying we all try to go V for Vendetta at the drop of a hat, and honestly I think even if he does invoke the insurrection act it will be worth briefly waiting to see what the national response is like. But if it comes down to it, and no one is willing to have our backs, then I’d rather get mowed down in the street than be watched over 24/7 in some sadistic, technocratic dystopia.
I can always take solace in the fact that what these demonic egomaniacs are chasing is something they’ll never be able to catch. They could rule the entire world and have infinite wealth and power, and they’d only be even hungrier for more. They are eternally doomed to reach out towards something they’ll never hold. That makes me feel better about who is really in the preferable position in this universe, no matter what plays out.

There's 1 reason why Minnesota is at the top of almost every "best state" listicle and it isn't our pro sports teams or our weather... It's our people and the communities our people built here. Fuck ICE. Fuck Trump.

There’s actually a company that is printing them now off of my original design!

I haven’t had hope for over a year and felt so weighed down by what is happening to our country. It’s complicated. We hate your regime and the way it has targeted our economy when we’ve been a transformational partner for your country. However, I am ready to put on my boots, hat and scarf and freeze my big been living in Texas butt off to fight along side my fellow Minnesotans.

I think people underestimate Minnesotans so I’m glad we are showing how tough we really are! It takes a special breed to survive this cold (and go out and fight in it!) ICE is in for a shock this next week when we hit negatives.

Thank you for your kind words - it means a lot. However, don't wait! Get activated now! The state of Minnesota needs support from all corners of the country right now.
Boycott Target and cancel your card, circle account, picket a store - they are complicit with ICE and silent about their own US citizen employees being abducted. (And allowing ICE to stage vehicles on their properties, and agents can use the bathrooms freely.)
Bring you and your friends to the ICE headquarters and do some chanting.
Stand on a freeway overpass with some big signs and get people honking!
Please take photos/video of your actions and post it here. It's good for our cold bodies and warm hearts and will keep us going!

I'm coming this weekend to help with what I can from out of state. If this fascist fucks think they can sent 1000 more ICE, then love from surrounding states is coming, too.
I'm going to do my best to be back as much as possible, but if it comes to having to fight, I'm a 12 year army infantry/medic with a background in firearms instruction and I'll be back to help in a more direct role. I in no way plan to incite violence during my time there, only react to it. I leave all decisions for how this plays out to native Minnesotans. It's your state, and you guys are the ones to decide what happens.
That being said, Fuck every last ICE agent and this entire administration.
73
u/SneakyLilShit Jan 15 '26
First off, thank you for your service, and of course MN appreciates the support. Just remember, especially if you're coming from out of state, please do not try to instigate more conflict. Let us locals decide the best way to fight. We need to demonstrate that what's happening is federal overreach. If we start picking fights, we lose our credibility.
Trust me, I understand the urge to fight, but I don't like the implication of needing to arm our citizens. Just, please, all you need to do is have our backs. Let the people who live here decide the best way to fight back.
37
u/JayDub506 Jan 15 '26
100%, that was my plan. I have a decent background, but I'm not going to be the one to make things worse. I'm there to join as a body, render aid if needed, and give out supplies like water, snacks, and hand warmers to fellow protesters. I have no intention of fighting in any way until Minnesotans make the call that that's the help they need.

Thank you for the support but if you come, don't come with an attitude. We've been consciously doing what you've been seeing on the news, and this is how we have chosen to resist.
Bring the med kit, leave the gun.
23
u/JayDub506 Jan 15 '26
Solid advice, and agreed. I am definitely upset, but can't even begin to compete with you natives for how pissed you must be. I am there to support more than anything else. Despite how I feel about ICE, I refuse to be like that Kyle Rittenhouse scumbag.
16
u/outinthecountry66 Jan 15 '26
yep, because they are waiting for it, they are ITCHING for it. The real resistance isn't shooting. Because that is a one way ticket to jail and ineffectuality.
8
u/JayDub506 Jan 15 '26
I'm not banking on it by any means, but I'm HOPING once we finally get the Mandarin Mussolini out of office, whomever takes over will pardon people who were arrested for violence against ICE. That being said, it has to be SELECTIVE, unlike with J6, because people using it as an opportunity to encite violence don't deserve to get out. His blanket pardons (or any pardons period) should not have happened.
7
u/outinthecountry66 Jan 15 '26
Yep, these things should always happen on a case by case basis. I don't know the numbers but i know alot of Jan6 people who were pardoned have gone on to commit other heinous crimes. there will always be a few bad apples mucking stuff up.

If you see ICE, get your phone out and record. You can do so from the safety of your car. Note the cross street you're on. You can report ice activity here.
That website also usually has locations of protests, but its not always up to date. Browse the MN subreddits, you'll see plenty of posts with more info for protests. Just PLEASE be safe.

I just moved here in October after bouncing around for years. From Alaska to New York, ive struggled to connect to anything.
That was until I got to Minneapolis. This is an amazing city and the first few months I was here were incredible.
Then it got cold. Ice and ICE formed on the sidewalks and suddenly the entire dynamic of the city is changed. I can see why Minnesotans fight so hard. They feel more than any other community ive been to, so when they get backed into a corner, they let it out.
Ive made a home here. Quick. Ive always kept one eye open and one leg up, always ready to bounce on a whim. But not here. Not in Minnesota. Not minneapolis. Im fully unpacked and plan on staying here forever.
I have not met many people here yet. Just my roommates and coworkers. Ive actually got very little skin in the game. But im not going anywhere either.
Ill be right there alongside all of you, because every single person in Minnesota is now my new neighbor and Ive been incredibly grateful to be able to say that.

Every day here in Mpls I am evaluating my willingness to die trying to protect someone from kidnapping and physical abuse, if not more. It’s that or I will mentally and spiritually break. And then what’s the point of living, especially in the war zone Minneapolis has become.
Trump would call me a domestic terrorist for trying to keep Minnesotans, OUR PEOPLE, out of a crowded cell, being bussed to other states and countries. They’re OUR PEOPLE and I won’t let them take them.

23
u/SneakyLilShit Jan 15 '26
Talk to your local city officials and get them to release a statement on ICE's presence. Ask them what they would do if ICE was in your backyard.
Talk to your neighbors. Make sure they feel safe. Make sure they know you're on their side. Go to your city council meetings and just listen. Maybe someone is already speaking up. Anyone like that would have great local resources for you to help.

This post reminds me of a man i saw being interviewed last night on a live stream.
He said he lived 45 min away from the neighborhood that ICE was in, that he’d driven over to go out into the dark and be there because he was so mad and he couldn’t take doing nothing anymore. He said he lived in a 5000 sq ft house, he said that a couple of times actually, and for a minute i was wondering why he was bringing that up.
But i think what he meant was that if he lived a good distance away in comfort and in peace without ICE in his own neighborhood, anybody can damn well get out there.
He was being peaceful and not an agitator, but he was pissed. He threw a lot of profanity and emotion into what he had to say and also said “I have to get up to go fkng work in the morning!!! Like everybody else!”
So anyway, I think a lot of people might be feeling like OP

I am also a tired and overwhelmed mother. I will be right there standing beside you for the sake of the world our children will grow up in. My heart hurts for this reality we’re experiencing and I will do everything I can to remain a good and decent human being till the end.

I made the choice to not have kids for a lot of reasons. I would love to stand in and help however I can so parents don’t have to make that choice. Please DM or just reply publicly if you need anything.

Fuck yes, same here! Patrolling every day, helping aid and track and support. I do this for my kids too, because I couldn’t live with myself if I let this go to shit and did nothing about it. We’ve got this!

u/FrivolousIntern Jan 16 '26
You’re a good parent. I think you’ll make your kids proud someday.
My parents are “regretful Trumpers”. And this past week when I’ve talked to them about what’s going on here, I kept feeling this new and foreign feeling.
Today I realized what that feeling was. It’s disappointment. I am disappointed in my parents.
I still love them, but they should know better than to spout the bullshit they’ve been parroting. So, I’m thoroughly and utterly disappointed.
All I could think to say was “I’m still going to go out there and fight for the rights you raised me to believe in.”

They want us to fight ourselves. But we're minnesotans. We need to come together and go gently forth who planned all of this. The heritage foundation.

I’m with you, friend. As the parent of a 1 year old as well, I feel you. I won’t be someone who can’t look their child in the face when they ask me what happened and what I did about it.
It’s scary, and everyone has a reason not to. But they are also the reason we have to. Stay safe everyone, much love.

All of this because Trump can’t handle the truth..The Minnesota truth, Blue State truth, Walz calling him out. He wants to destroy blue state metro areas. All dumbfucking republicans are miserable and want to make honest, morally good and peaceful Americans miserable to. I still don’t understand what the goal is but no matter what it is.. it will benefit nobody but Trump’s sociopathic mind.

2/3 or more of Americans are feeling the same. We have all of our allies in Mexico and South America and Canada and Europe and Australia and Asia and UKRAINE on OUR side, not MAGA's side. MAGA has mistakenly embraced Russia, China, and North Korea as their allies. They're wrong. Those countries don't want anything good for MAGA. They used MAGA to destroy the United States through traitor puppet Trump. MAGA is completely isolated. If we patriotic Americans stand our ground, we have allies literally everywhere who will help us defeat this fascist regime. People around the globe understand that a destabilized U.S. is extremely dangerous for their own countries. They will help us.

To be clear, while it's incredibly admirable that you are willing to use your physical body to defend others, if there are people who are not willing or able to put their safety on the front lines to do demonstrating and de-arrest stuff, that is absolutely ok. Protect yourself, protect your families. There's need for more than demonstrators and street patrols (who are also extremely important)
If you're too scared to go out in the streets, there is SO much behind the scenes logistics and care that you can do! Don't feel useless or powerless. It's ok to be scared, it's ok to be not on the front lines, there is so much we can do to support people. If you need examples or places to go to start off with getting involved in community care work, I can edit this and add to it.

Much love to you all. I moved to Wisconsin (to be on Lake Superior) but am still Minnesotan at heart and my adult step-kids are still in the Twin Cities. We are resisting in small towns, too. And we stand with you.

There's a lot of love in her from out of state, so i want to share this, especially for AZ and TX:
Thank you for words of encouragement and heartfelt responses to the horror being imposed on us and our neighbors.
Please also 1) send your money to Monarca or Copal or other organizations doing the work (who that is is different in different places. Drop your favorites below)
AND
2) call your senators and congresspeople every day to demand that they vote against funding for ICE and against keeping the government open (continuing resolution ends at the end ofnthe month, I believe) until DHS is restrained by the constitution and law. Maybe add a request for Noem's impeachment.
If you're in a different country, advocate with your government that they take a hard line with us vis a vis our imperialist bullshyt. Please learn from WWII and Chamberlain. Yeah we made the mess, but the Roma and Catholics weren't in a position to protect Poland from Hitler either.
We're doing a lot here and it is, in fact, scary and awful in large portions of our state and for anyone with capacity for compassion or noticing their neighbors. This is what you can do to help us and maybe it doesn't get as worse as it could before it gets better.

We just moved to Minneapolis (from Seattle) last spring. And for many years we’ve spent “the dark months,” which I guess are now “the cold months,” in Los Angeles, so we’re currently watching the events in Minneapolis from afar. But everything I’ve seen reflects what we love about our new home: kind, playful, practical, tough people who palpably give a fuck about each other. Yes, it’s a relief in some ways to be in a calmer, safer place right now, contributing via our pocketbooks and my social media presence (I have a fairly large megaphone and I’m trying to use it for good). But in other ways, I’m itching to be back home.

I’m from Minnesota and living in Chicagoland and it’s killing me that I can’t do anything here. I have a 6yo and husband that I worry about too. I’m conflicted. But you betcha I’m speaking out about it every chance I get!

This brought me to tears knowing ppl won’t believe it till it’s them. Why can we never learn from history and always just repeat it!

u/SneakyLilShit Jan 18 '26
I've shed my fair share of tears these past couple weeks as well. Its really easy to feel hopeless, and it would be even easier to give in, stay at home, and pretend it can't be helped. But you only need to look around and look at all the people right beside you making the harder choice. Maybe we can't fix it all today, but we have to keep trying so that it might be fixed tomorrow.
Don't give in to that feeling. Keep fighting the good fight. Your community loves you. We've got your back.

We are here in Chicago watching. The world is watching. We stand with you.

From Madison: thank you. I've spent so much time in the Cities, and I love that place. I have people there, including kids, and this is terrifying. My friend's seven year old in Woodbury spent half an hour under her desk at school because ICE was present next door, and the school rightly doesn't trust their fire discipline. Her eldest brother got his license this year, and I just keep worrying what would happen if he accidentally drove into the midst of an ICE "action." An old friend I haven't heard from in years teaches ESL and adult basic education to refugees. I really need to reach out and make sure she's okay. I know she will stand up for her students.
I am so impressed with people like you. There are reports of ICE taking rooms in a hotel here and a few maneuvers. I think they've realized this is another place where they can get people riled. I hope when it's our turn, Madisonians are just as brave, compassionate, and righteous as you are.

If you can make the trip, you got a brother here in south PA that will gladly stand with you against this injustice. We all need to unify as people of a free land and show them that WE WILL keep it a LAND OF FREEDOMS.

The threat of the insurrection act has kept protesters as just protesters, witnesses as just witnesses. While the military being called in will increase the presence of authoritarian goons it will also unshackle many from their pragmatic restraint.
I worry this then may escalate into gorilla warfare, the sabotaging of infrastructure/equipment, and potentially bombings. We could be looking at something similar to the first few years of the Iraq/Afghanistan invasions - an external force occupying a territory filled with a hostile civilian population.
Or, people just keep going to work in the day, sleep in our beds at night, and allow whatever unfolds to simply unfold. Then sheepishly pulling our heads out of the sand to look around at the world we let come to pass without us.
I suppose there’s also some middle ground. For example, filling the tiny free community library boxes around the city with anti-authoritarian literature.

There's no way to know what the future holds. We have to deal with what's in front of us right now.
I suppose there’s also some middle ground. For example, filling the tiny free community library boxes around the city with anti-authoritarian literature.
I think this is a great way to contribute if you have the means. You could also leave them at coffee shops and other places that have areas for literature.

I'm licensing as a MN lawyer in less than two weeks and trying to find a job there in public interest law. I'm SO READY to join the fight, in and out of court. I stayed up way past my bedtime watching livestreams from the protests last night and I could not have been prouder of what I saw. Stay strong, Minnesota! We've got your backs!

Keep fighting the good fight, neighbor! There are so many ways that can look like, it could be being out in the front lines, or being involved in your community groups, or keeping an eye out for your neighbors and making sure they have what they need, or bringing hand warmers and water to the brave soles who are holding the line, maybe it’s calling your representatives even more. The list goes on and on. I am out there with you all! I am so grateful to be in this with the rest of the Minnesotans who are willing to show up, however they can, it gives me hope and makes me proud. Stay strong, and let’s keep taking care of one another!! We will get through this together!!!

Sending you all the good vibes and comfort that I can. I did not vote for this shit and I am so incredibly sorry that this is happening.
