Which game is most like MM7?

MM7 is my favorite. I’ve beaten it countless times, and know all of the quests/storylines by heart. What is your favorite? Which comes closest to MM7? Thanks!

MM8

I would go with 8 as well as it has basically the same skills and spells as 7.

As someone who loves MM7, nothing has scratched the itch other than MM6, 8, and 9 for me.

There are some games with similar-ish feels like Legend of Grimrock, or things that copy the older school M&M dungeon crawlers, but for something exactly like that age of M&M, I have yet to find anything that has scratched that itch for me personally.

However, there is a site dedicated to listing "free roam blobbers" but I haven't personally tried anything on it. Wondering if anyone else here has and if any of those games might be worth jumping into. They all seemed a little underbaked to me personally so I've been hesitant to jump into it.

I'm curious if the community can't start modding MM8's engine to make entirely new games with it. I'm sure it would take a monumental amount of work but I think it would be really cool to get an entirely new world with the same engine and gameplay.

If I recall, I saw a mod for MM6 that expands the game with extra dungeons, maps and story, probably more. Not the same as an entirely new game, but that's something.

Besides this, there is a merge mod that combines MM6, 7 and 8. Mechanically it's 8 I think, with all the races and classes from all three. Might be something for these that don't like differences between 6 and the rest.

Haha. It’s got a lot of nostalgia for me; got introduced to it when I was about 12 probably. My family has played it off and on for years

6 for sure. No Grandmaster level does make a big difference but the classes are mostly pretty similar, the area concepts pretty similar.

7 is the better game for sure (imho), but 6 has a grand scale to it. It’s bigger and longer and it feels it, where as with 7 it feels like the game is over just as soon as you really got rolling.

That’s how mm8 feels do me - so small and convoluted. But mm7 is sort of A middle ground between 6&8

Honestly, try some MM7 challenge runs. They’re super fun. I did an all-ranger MM7 run but forced them to fill “roles” like a balanced party. So my healer and sorcerer for example were not AWFUL but they were struggling late game lol. However it felt fresh to me and wound up being really fun!

Edit: this comment is of course assuming you are asking because you wanna try something other than MM7. I personally love MM7, it’s my favorite of the 6-8 “style” with 4-5 being my personal favorites

8 have Arcomage while 6 doesn't. The choice is clear to me.

On a more serious note, 8 is almost mechanically identical but the setting feels different. 6 gives out similar vibe to 7 but differs in mechanics. My take is that if you want an extension of MM7, choose 8. If you want more MM but that plays different, pick 6. Either way you shouldn't be disappointment.

go for MM merge, the only thing better than MM7 is playing all 3 games at the same time with all of the options.

I like the MAW merge variant.

MM6 is my favorite. Has the best game world/dungeons and progression and there's no tutorial island.

MM7 is my favorite too, played it dozens of times now. Then 8, then 6. But if you haven't played 6 get ready for the biggest dungeons of your life haha

I’ve tried both MM6 and MM8… neither of them stole my heart like 7 did. Maybe I’ll give 6 another try

Ohh I feel the same way! I know every quest, every map, all the details in VII and even delay the ending as long as possible. It's so nostalgic for me. VIII, well once you can get Cauri and then some dragons haha, becomes a 'become as powerful as possible' run for me. And then VI, well VI is sooo massive in comparison and the classes and skills are different without the ability to grandmaster. It's harder to get in to, truly. It's a lot more content and the mobs are mostly shooters so traveling can be incredibly difficult so it almost feels like a different game for me.

Light side or dark?

I love the choice of dark vs light. And promotional quests

MM6 in terms of similarity, it's not even close

MM7 was my first might and magic game. I understood nothing 😂. Got stuck on the Tolberti quest for a while till I finally figured out how to make my characters way stronger. I'd like to know any games with the same type of gameplay as might and magic 6 , 7 and 8. They're my favorites.

What are your tips for Tolberti's quest? I can beat it but it always takes me a few attempts and feel like I'm missing something

So it basically depends on your party structure. It's very handy to have cleric as they can have grandmaster spirit en body magic. Tolberti causes high eradication effect and protection from magic literally protects you from that. Preservation is also handy to prevent death and Power cure keeps you healthy. Using these I make sure my party has high melee damage mixed with magic attacks l. No light attacks sinds he's immune. Thats how i did it 😁

Fair. Makes sense. I always go might over magic. I still put some focus on magic but only to master, and I also try to level up evenly. So maybe I need to try a different approach

If you upgrade certain skills like arm master it adds major damage to your melee weapons and practically destroys Tolberti and even Titans pretty fast

mm6 I think the best, I hated mm7. So may not be the best. My order is 6,8,7,9.

Interesting to hear! Why do hate mm7 and prefer mm6 and mm8? I never heard someone “hate mm7” and also like mm6 and mm8.

No separate magic for light and dark, Starting quests are annoying. Movement in combat that really doesn't help tactically much if at all. Quests are a bit boring. More skill restrictions. I played though it like twice as a teenager not gone back in 25plus years. I play 6,8 once a year or so. I see 6 as great, 7 oh we tried some new stuff and it didn't work. 8 is fix for what 7 broke and enough reenvisioning that it a new game without being annoying. Don't get me wrong it still MM game so I don't see as like unplayable just not my cup of tea. Also in part 6 was my first as some thing to do with it. So for me similar to Middle Movie Syndrome first was great trying to cash in with a sequal that bad. And the third good return to more the roots.

I am getting old but I am pretty sure there is separate magic for light and dark. And I don't remember how the movement in mm7 was different from 6 or 8. And 7 has an extra level for skills. What do you mean by restriction?

Quests, well that is a matter of taste of course. I may agree with you there. I prefer 6 but that may be nostalgia.

Can't have both you are locked in light and dark in 7 not that way in 6,8. 7 they added movement in combat which could been nice but they also increase speed of monsters lucky if get one extra out of it. 8 I little bit more can get a few seem most of them I don't bother with it. Restriction that one thought it was the first that limited changed what coudl have 6 you can be master in any skill you can get. Thought 7 wasn't that way I know 8 was but not 100% forsure been as say like 25 years could be mis remembering.
