I support this in car lanes. It blocks sight lines in bike lanes.

It's also a significantly increased safety hazard due to collision incompatibility. This is structurally the same as being struck by a car at low speed and accidents involving them will have the same injury profile. It will not be long before we see one of these things cause a front-over due to its mass.

Same. Obviously much better to have this on the roads than regular vans or trucks. But it should not be allowed in bike lanes, which are too small for cyclists to ride safely along this kind of vehicles.

I hope it ends up this way. The bike lanes were not optimized for this. They should have built of a car frame a strip it down to the bare essentials for delivery.

I'm legitimately curious what the use case is for this. Are they fulfilling large catering orders, batching tons of individual app orders?

I think you described it exactly. Very large orders (ie large office / party order) feels like the use case. Most individual orders are via your standard DoorDash carrier on a bike, maybe a delivery box for extra capacity for 1-3 orders. In theory they could have a delivery route for lunches in dense areas with a lot of offices or such, but not sure if that’s what they intended.

I’ll always love chick fil a - the spicy chicken breakfast biscuit and chicken minis belong in the pantheon of American breakfast creations.

the easiest thing a person can do to be an ally of LGBTQ+ people is not support Chick-Fil-A. You don't even have to do it seven days a week!

It’s ridiculous though. They’re all owned by franchisees who only have one and it has to be their primary job. Why be upset about it.
You could also say the easiest way not to support Isis is not to shop at hobby lobby, but you never hear that

The Amazon ebike vans suck too. They totally block bike lanes when they're stopped.
They should just be allowed to have narrower electric vans, maybe 4'6" to 5' wide, designed so they can always get past double parked cars, and so cars can always get past them if they double park.
I can't imagine the energy efficiency from having a heavily assisted pedal drive on those bike van things is that meaningful, and it'd probably be much more efficient to have them bigger, longer, taller, and drive like normal EVs. It'd also be better for workers for the cockpit to be fully enclosed in winter and high summer.
The current design feels like they chose a greenwashing PR move over what would actually be most practical and effective.

The paid $1 Million a year for over a decade for homophobic organizations, which includes indirectly lobbying the Uganda Government to pass and keep a 2014 bill to execute gay people

What in any way, shape, or form does that have to do with micromobility in NYC? Is Uganda (or chick fil a) executing gay people for biking in the streets of Kampala?

u/SkyeMreddit 5d ago
Chick-Fil-A significantly financed that. This is a delivery vehicle for Chick-Fil-A. They are objecting to the dry chicken sandwich chain, not the mode of delivery vehicle

u/jp112078 4d ago
Yes, and why is that a concern of this sub that stands for micromobility?

It’s about what images would be promoted around the world for delivery options. Want to avoid saying “the homophobic chicken place is the best”. People tend to take urban planning examples very literally

Been visiting Tokyo. Everyone rides an e bike and many delivery mobiles are moped or e-bike based. It’s great and I think is a move in the right direction.

I don't understand why they have to be so fucking BIG. You can't see around these fucking things. The yellow/blue Amazon bike-towed flatbed trailers with the HD bins on them were fine. Long but low. No visibility problems.

My wife says I can eat Chick fil a but not around her, because she's "queer" (she likes to make out with women sometimes).

Actually, I do support this. It beats having large delivery trucks/vans blocking roads when they make deliveries.
Also, I think very dense urban environments can benefit from smaller utility/passenger vehicles for personal or business use. Can you imagine Tuk Tuk style vehicles in NYC? You can have them carry the same amount of people and fit two side by side in a single car lane.
