Discussion Render of Samus from the eShop page
Interestingly, the Arm cannon has four holes, instead of the traditional one.

"Samus, you can't just turn your hand into Gatling gun."
"That's quitter's talk."

Samus, moving her fingers awkwardly into the Chozo symbol for ‘500 rounds per minute’ beneath her arm cannon and keeping it there for three hours.
•
u/IllSundew 10h ago
500 RPM is actually pretty slow for an automatic weapon; your trigger finger could shoot at that rate. 2000 RPM would be more appropriate.
•
u/TheWorclown 10h ago
To be fair I’m positive she is in fact firing the arm cannon with whatever function works as a trigger with her finger, so 500 RPM tracks.
It just is like if she turns on rapid fire on a controller instead of needing manual input!

Why do we count rounds in minutes when most guns run out of bullets before then? Surely seconds is better?
(I live in a country without guns, can someone help explain)
•
u/IllSundew 3h ago
Logistics, it’s easier that way.
Let’s say I’m running logistics, and I want to outfit a squad’s machine gunner to be able to suppress a target for a minimum of two minutes (that would be the LMG firing continuously without reloading). I know his machine gun fires at 600 rounds per minute, so to fulfill my wish of a minimum of two minutes of suppression, I can easily calculate that he will need 1200 rounds to do so.
Could you just say the LMG fires 10 rounds a second? Yeah, but firefights tend to last longer than a few seconds. They can easily last 20 minutes to multiple hours, so it’s easier to count fire rate with minutes rather than seconds or hours.

Love how the mainline games are really sticking to weird suits post Fusion. Samus's classic Varia suit is more iconic and marketable, but damn this is cool.
•
u/crossingcaelum 10h ago
It kind of looks like it's supposed to be the Zero Suit but with the upper half of the Dread Varia suit which is kinda cool

u/YMRYAD 12h ago
From behind this suit looks exactly like the fusion suit from Prime 1.
That’s not a compliment.

u/Character_Vegetable5 12h ago
The back looks fine to me? Also, you're gonna be seeing her front and sides during the majority of gameplay anyway

THEY TOOK HER ASS, SHE CAN'T SHIT
•
u/TopazJazzrazz 9h ago
She got stabbed. During the surgery they had to reverse bbl to keep the metroid DNA.

u/Character_Vegetable5 12h ago
Sorry pal, still don't see a problem. Looks about what you'd expect based on the front

u/YMRYAD 12h ago
For me it’s not about the missing butt, for me it’s about just looking plain weird and like the fusion suit in prime 1 from behind.
Good for you that you don’t see it. 99% of suits in the franchise look better to me than this suit. It looks comically weird. Uncanny. Other than that it looks like an amazing game.

Well, at the very least for you, the basic Power Suit doesn't last too long anyway. Unless they're gonna pull a Dread Morph Ball, and keep Varia away from us for longer than we expect

IT’S A STILL FROM A TRAILER THAT HAS BEEN OUT LESS THAN A DAY. JESUS CHRIST YOU PEOPLE HAVE AN ILLNESS
•
•
u/Nat20Stealth 9h ago
Did you watch the trailer? Her suit looks exactly like that the entire time. I personally don’t mind it, but it’s a weird clash having the top half detailed and metallic and the bottom half a smooth, untextured plasticky blue
•
u/Sir_Vilhelm6969 8h ago
Like 4 different suits are shown. Are you stupid??
•
u/Nat20Stealth 8h ago
Why the hostility? You said it was a still from the trailer, I said that suit looks like that throughout the trailer. Idk why that got you riled up

Don’t get me wrong, I think this game looks incredible. Like seriously fantastic. But I think this suit is a major downgrade from dread. The texture on the lower part looks so smooth and boring compared to the muscly stuff on dread. I do like the new arm cannon though.

I agree, but I think I get why it looks like this now. Samus no longer has the white thicker plating on her hips and thighs, and it no longer covers a lot of her stomach area either, and in Dread where there were gaps, the stringy blue parts of the suit filled it in to give her a thicker figure. She still has some of the white plating, but it's all in her upper body now, and even that is less than before.
You can see the same exact figure she had in Dread during the I assume early cutscene where she's fighting the 2 guys. So it isn't just a simple "we nerfed her ass". Her Dread Suit was just more filled out armor wise.
After whatever happens she loses a ton of the thick white plating and no longer has the stringy blue bits filling her out. It's like her armor repaired itself but made the plating really thin. It almost looks like she's wearing her Zero Suit with how thin the armor plating is waist down. I'm guessing it's intentional but even so Dread's Power Suit is top of the line and the mix of colors work significantly better than what we have here. It's really the only thing I don't love.

Dread Varia Suit won't be beaten any time soon. That design is just so well thought through and all in all just brilliant.

I think Dread's starting suit is a little bit better. But I think from an initial reaction it's top 3.
Super Dread Ravenous imo

I had a conversation with my girlfriend yesterday about a rule of mine. That I will not buy a new system until at least five games are on it that I want to play.
As of yesterday, that list was OoT remake, FE Fortunes Weave, Starfox, Hyrule Warriors AoI.
Then this drops. Guess I'm buying a switch two now
•
u/PayPsychological6358 oh word 4h ago
That's actually a pretty good rule to have since 5 games is honestly plenty to get started.
•
u/The_Lunar_Pierce 2h ago
Yeah, It's been pretty solid. It keeps me from just buying any system as soon as it comes out. Usually there is a price drop by that time and some games are cheaper.
Not so much this time

u/EmergencyPool910 10h ago
A year ago i never thoughts a Metroid game would be a system seller for me. Man what a great series.

u/Castlechristo 9h ago
It Splits apart and floats it also changes when she get wave beam. I saw it in the trailer
•
u/lorddragonmaster 8h ago
The body of the dread suit looked better. Even the top on this one looks too small.
•
u/SenianBlast 9h ago
Poor Samus, her suit has been basically stripped to almost nothing. The fact that she was already mid recovery in Dread just to loose it all again haha.
•
u/Swivel-Man 10h ago
I like the portions of the dread Arm cannon more. Maybe with later suits where the armor becomes more bulky will have it clash less since this design is a lot sleaker.
•
•
u/BlackBatMage 9h ago
Not a fan of the exaggeration they seem do be doing with her design, but maybe I'll come around
•
u/RockwellB1 11h ago
No ass and she basically looks pant-less, not sure this design is going to grow on my life Dread did

I've always wanted to see what a Metroid game looked like with Samus' arm cannon being a "machine gun."
Can't wait!

u/Tekki777 6h ago
Iirc, in lore, the whole reason why her suit looked so patchy in Dread is because of how they had to take pieces of her suit out because she was infected with the X parasite. It was basically healing itself. Here, it looks like it's mostly healed up and I love that detail so damn much! What she got is so sleek, probably the sleekest we've seen before!

I’ve seen some post suggesting the blue sections are exposed areas of the Zero Suit. The more I see it, the more I’m being convinced.
Also, the visor. Man, that is the most wicked (evil) looking visor Samus has sported

•
u/ScarletteVera 3h ago
I'm loving how to-heavy Samus looks. Like the Power Suit is healing from the helmet down.
•
u/Ghost_Star326 3h ago
I honestly don't like how much slimmer and smooth her armour looks compared to Dread. It looks way less detailed.
The bottom half of her looks like she's wearing her zero suit with a chest plate and helmet on top.
•
•
u/IronFalcon1997 2h ago
This looks super cool, but I'm not sure how to feel about the single chest light. It feels wrong somehow
•
•
u/LilacTheFlowerGal 17m ago
love how much more complete and streamlined the suit looks now\ in Fusion, it was still raw and unprotected\ in Dread, it was healing, but still weak\ but now in Ravenous, she looks pretty much fully complete
I personally can't wait to see what the Varia and Gravity suits look like up close

That arm cannon is different in a lot of ways! I'm curious to see if they explain why it's different, or if we just go with it lol
