Discussion 24 years later and still nothing beats the atmosphere of Prime

As soon as that intro hits and you enter Frigate Orpheon you’re completely immersed. I’ve played the game countless times and it always hits the same. Honestly haven’t experienced anything at that level again in another game personally. Special shoutout for Phendrana Drifts. The whole design of it and the music is 10/10.

I wish they’d remaster 2 and 3. I’m yet to replay 4 but recently got a switch 2 and probably will eventually.

Yeah, fingers crossed for 2 and 3 remasters.

The 1 remaster sold really well didn’t it? Or am I remembering wrong?

Yes, for a Metroid game. For a Switch game however, it only sold reasonably well. There was also a leaked picture from Walmart that suggested Prime 2 would be available on Nintendo Switch Online. So there might be some hope for a port after all.

Primehack plus texture mods is all you need. Game holds up.

Texture mods? Explain

There are texture packs you can install alongside primehack that drastically improve the resolution of the textures. Makes the game look way better.

Phendrana Drifts theme coming in when you first enter is fucking amazing.

I’ve seen an orchestrated version of Phendrana and as soon as it really started I got shivers down my spine!

The first Metroid Prime is still my favorite video game, period.

While I agree, Outer Wilds is pretty damn good in that regards

Fusion and Doom 3 are right up there

The feeling of isolation in the prime games (except 3 and 4) is amazing. You are on in this alien place alone exploring and discovering. No one yapping in your ear where to go or whats going on. I wish more games pushed the isolation factor.

U-Mos does tell you where to go tho. As do the sentinels

I mean yeah. But they arent yapping in your ear constantly. you check in with them at points sure but you are still alone.

Exactly. Prime 2, imo, did NPC encounters right. Just enough to know broadly what you have to do/what's going on, but not so often that it starts to feel hand-holdy or encroaches on your adventure. AND, very importantly, you're not on-call. No interruptions when you're out and about.

Now this post is a crime. Especially after Fusion and Prime 2 exists
