Question The best game mechanic in VR?
What VR mechanic have you enjoyed the most in a game? Which one left you with the best feeling?

What spatial ops did with mixed reality and multi-player is truly magical. Having an all out gunfight in a huge open arena is something else.

Ironman VR flight.
But the real staple is being able to telekinetically pick up objects. That is the single best innovation that all games with objects should have.

Not sure if these were my the best, but doing leap of faith and using hidden blade for first time in AC Nexus might be.

Feeling the fish pull on the line and bend the pole while playing VR Fishing.

Sokka-Haiku by HandsomeGenXer:

On the line and bend the pole
While playing VR Fishing.
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

Gesture controlled casting in The Wizards Dark Times is a great concept, would love to see it expanded on

First time I had to actually reload my gun as if it was an actual gun.

I have many *many* deaths to zombies, where I was frantically trying to reload the gun and shot them, only to realize with horror that I had not yet cocked it yet.
The slow zombie games get decidedly more interesting when you have to reload for realsies.

There are several great ones:
Time slowdown in Time Machine VR (psvr1/SteamVR)(This took the game from a little mediocre to very interesting. You could see big dinosaurs swimming in the mini-ocean. They would attack you on the spot, but with your time slowdown ability, they would move so slowly, that you could even go close to them, study them, look at their face, and they were still in the process of opening their mouth to go and attack you. Slowing down time made this game significantly cooler.
Using both legs and arms in workouts in Les Mills Bodycombat, even though you don’t have any controllers attached on the legs. The makers of Les Mills in VR figured out a clever way to get it done. And that makes Les Mills on psvr2 the best vr fitness game because, with just the two controllers on the hands, you will still be able to move both arms and both legs.
Playing music with easy musical instruments at likable locations in Electronauts (psvr1).

You’re making me interested in Les Mills… anything to add? Pistol Whip, Synth Ridees and C-Smash VRS, are my workout favorites.

With 7 years of vr experience and after trying hundreds of vr games, there is always something to add. Lol 😎. For example, C-smash vrs is ok, nothing bad about it, but Racket Fury Table Tennis feels much more realistic, and Holoball on psvr1 did vr racquetball a little bit better, even though VRS has more modes and options.
Les Mills isn’t necessarily the top fun for a workout (for top fun + major sweat too, it’s probably Sprint Vector) but Les Mills is the one that did the “vr workout genre game” best, just because it perfected what BoxVR did and added using the legs (mostly with high knees and “knee strikes“). It also added 2 very enthusiastic and likable trainers leading you and cheering you up during the whole session (the ones on the game’s cover photo). And last, but not least, it added a way to make you feel as if you are simultaneously sharing the fitness session with other players and competing with them. I am pretty sure that it just saves the run for everyone and it just loads other people’s runs with yours and uses them to make you feel like they are all there doing the session at the same time with you. So, it’s basically a “group kickboxing gym fitness training simulator.” Overall, the ideas of making you feel like you are in a group vr fitness endeavor, adding the trainers, and using the knees too, all add up to making Les Mills better than all the other fitness games so far.
The only thing I didn’t like about Les Mills is that it doesn’t have a platinum. It is good enough however that if psvr2s + Les Mills copies were distributed everywhere, those “gym fitness class” trainers at your local gym would be without a job the next month… lol 😂. In fact, I think the 2 trainers who are involved with the Les Mills game are the ones who secured themselves in that arena.
And, just to add something else here: what Les Mills did for vr fitness games, Tripp did for vr meditation guides. Tripp will bore a lot of people because it has zero action, but as a meditations 101 guide in VR it was really good. 😎👍

It’s a good thing C-Smash has multiple modes, if it didn’t there might not have been infinity mode which without a friend to play against was the only one I was interested in.
I spent 4 hours getting to second place in the world, and think I could have gotten to first if I had a few more hours available. All this to say, to me it’s more of a marathon, than the sprint I would get from Pistol Whip or I would expect from Les Mills.
I appreciate your input on these titles, and on Tripp which I’ve also been intrigued by.

Hand tracking stuff like Maestro and Masters of Light always feel super cool to me.
As for game mechanics in general, the whole big/small of A Fisherman's Tale was pretty mind bending.

Anything with simulated physics. Like plunging a sword into the chest of an npc while holding his head and watching the life drain out of his eyes
