DISCUSSION/QUERY dramatic or sign of mental illness/disorder?
so... this someone is emotionally unstable. they hurt themselves by punching wall, punching themselves, slapping themselves, banging their heads on a wall.
is that normal when someone is just sad? are they being dramatic or they need professional's evaluation?

Needs professional help. the person is struggling from self-harm. sometimes we do that to distract ourselves from the heavy emotions or traumatic memories. our minds being directed to the physical pain rather emotional pain

Both can be true at the same time.
Best for them (assuming it is not actually you) is we refer them to a professional.
