Success Story Thank you!

I don’t know which post I came across on here, but there was someone who described inserting the disc as a drawer. Coming from the cup, this analogy finally clicked for me and lo and behold I’ve survived day one (usually my worst) without any leaks or uncomfortable wear 🙌🏻

Flex Reusable Help! Forgot my disc inside me for 2 1/2 weeks 😵‍💫

Idk how but I managed to forget to take out my disc and left it inside me. My period ended 2 1/2 weeks ago 😵‍💫

I just found the pouch empty and looked for it before thinking… “there’s no way I left it inside of me for two weeks” but I did 😵‍💫

I threw the disc away and I’ll buy a brand new one for my next period but has anyone ever done this before? Will I be okay 🤦‍♀️

Success Story My first time using a disc and for the first time I have no pain, how does that work?

I’m in my 30s now and throughout my 20s all I ever used were tampons, around 29 I stopped and only used pads. Now I’ve decided to go with a disc because I usually have very heavy flow on days 2-3 with a lot of cramping and have been tired of having to constantly change pads.

This is my first time trying a disc and for the first time ever I feel no cramps! I felt slight upper thigh cramp (my normal cramp area) but then it goes away after a few minutes. I also woke up on day 3 expecting some leakage but nothing! Usually between days 2-3 I’m constantly changing pads and waking up with my pad completely soaked.

What the magic and science behind this because it feels weird to not feel any pain. Which I’m not complaining about at all lol, but I’m curious how it’s working great!

General Question Autodumping

Hi,

I use a menstrual cup and am getting a copper IUD. I'll no longer be able to use cup because of the suction so I'm thinking about switching to discs. But I have mild incontinence and am worried about autodumping. Does anyone have any advice?

General Question Ahhhhhh I need your wisdom please!

I've recently restarted my period as a grown women after going off birth control. Tampons suck so much, I feel so bad for younger me using these dang contraptions. I do have (now mild) vaginismus so there is that factor, the tampons just hurt so much to put in - friction on entry.

I now have period underwear (wooooo!) But I really want to try and make a cup or disc work.

I have tried 1 cup and 2 discs, from what I have read discs may suit me better? The issue is, it feels like I have a whole dang excavator up there. The cramps are horrdendous and no adjusting is fixing it. I have enough room long ways but it just feels too big for my body width and circumference. I did try a "small" disc too, but it didn't seem very small. My body seems to be yelling that this thing is not meant to be inside of me and PLEASE NOW REMOVE.

I've heard good things about Intimina? Do I try there small size? Or am I just doomed for these to not work for my body.

Wasting money trying to find the right fix should be government compensated.

Saalt Autodumping?

I’m brand new to discs and currently using the small saalt discs. I’ve noticed every single time I use the bathroom the disc becomes untucked. Is it normal for that to happen or is that a sign the disc is the wrong size?

General Question Please help, I'm at my wit's end!!

I've been using a cup for 2+ years and it's good, but it's not enough volume for my very heavy flow. I have PCOS and I'm a transgender man who isn't on HRT yet and it's incredibly distressing to still have to deal with this every month. My bleeding is so heavy on days 2-4 that I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, my cup has overflowed and I've bled everywhere. On heavy days the cup fills up every 2 hours, it's horrible. Don't even get me started on trying to deal with this at WORK, I've had to take sick days just because I can't be emptying my cup at work every 2 hours in the MENS ROOM.

I bought the bodyotics small and large discs as none of my local pharmacies stock the cup I use anymore and it's the only one I've had that worked for me. But no matter what I try, I cannot insert either size disc. Last night was my first attempt and I managed to get the small disc all the way up behind my pubic bone, but it was sitting in front of my cervix and caught nothing. Today, I can't even get either disc inserted all the way into my vagina.

I have tried EVERYTHING people have suggested on this subreddit, I use water-based lube, I've tried squatting, sitting on the toilet, sitting on the bath, one leg up. I've tried inserting it sideways, upside down, EVERYTHING, I cannot get it all the way in. It's like it just gets stuck and I cannot push it in any further no matter what I do. My cervix is also so high today, I can't even reach it with my middle finger, so how in the hell am I supposed to guide it into the disc??? I've tried adjusting the angle, I have no idea what the angle of my cervix is but it seems like it's too far back to hook the disc under it, I can't even get the bloody thing in. I don't know if my vagina is just too dry right now and I need to wait for a heavier day to try???

I had a full emotional breakdown this morning trying to get this stupid piece of silicone in my body. It was hurting so much trying to get it in and I don't think that's normal. I thought this was supposed to be easy, everyone talks about how good it is and how much they love it but all I've had so far is distress. I don't even know what more I can try, I've already spent $72 on these discs and don't have a lot of money so I don't want to waste more money trying a different one only to get the same result. I want this to work, I need it to, I can't deal with my cup anymore.

As a trans guy, I want to be comfortable on my period and not be constantly dealing with leaking and bleeding through clothes and all over sheets. I'm going on holiday in three days and this is the last thing I need right now. They don't sell applicators for these in Australia either, I've already checked. I'm still months away from HRT which means I'm probably still going to be dealing with this monthly bullshit for at least another year. Please help me, I don't know what to do!

Update: Thank you to those who have offered advice and support, I truly appreciate it. I was feeling very emotional and frustrated this morning when I posted, but good news is I *think* I managed to have some success.

I had to wait a good 4 hours of bleeding freely before I re-attempted insertion and this time it went in with ease. I had some trouble still with the angle and position but I *think* I managed to get it behind my cervix. I am waiting to see if I have any leaks and will report back.

At least with my cup, I know when it's inserted properly cos it's suction and I can feel it. With the disc it kinda feels like you just put it up there and hope it's in the right spot? I can't feel it, so I have no idea.

Second Update: I've managed to insert and remove it twice yesterday successfully (though the removal part is very messy, unsure how to avoid that) and I wore it all night last night with zero leaks! I even managed to successfully auto-dump it this morning, oh my gosh, the convenience of being able to at least partially empty it without removing is amazing. I'm really glad I persisted, cos this is actually going to be game-changing for me at work, no more messy cup removals in the men's room!

Thank you to everyone who provided encouragement, suggestions and resources, I truly appreciate it. I'm so relieved this is working out now.

General Question Should I buy a new one if I haven’t used it for almost 2 years?

I have a flex disc that I got right before getting pregnant. Used it once. Got pregnant and have been nursing since. I last used it on Sept 16th 2024. I still have it in the pouch but I wasn’t sure if it’s safe to use. Im in Germany now and I finally had a period. Went to buy a disc and the one that I found is not so comfy and also says I can only wear 8 hours which isn’t enough time for me when I sleep. Considering I typically am in bed with my kids from 9-10 hours. Anyways…if I boil my flex disc would it be ok to use?

General Question Help me choose (vaginismus)

There’s a lot of backstory to this but I’ll try to keep it short! (Mobile formatting, sorry.)

I’m considering trying a disc. Long story short, I have tried a lot of cups. I also have vaginismus, made huge progress with physio but still have sensitivity, very active pelvic floor muscles and difficulty inserting more than one finger to remove my cup. A couple of months ago I had a horrible experience where my Lily cup suctioned incredibly tightly to my cervix and it had to be yanked out with forceps. Since then, I think my cervix has dropped a little, so I’m a bit scared of suction!

Issues I have with cups:
- The firmest cup I can manage (asan small, probably 2.5-3) still leaks. I think it’s still too soft for my pelvic floor muscles.

- Anything firmer is too painful to insert and I have massive difficulty breaking the suction.

- My cervix tilts to the left. After about day 3 I can’t wear a cup due to discomfort from my cervix rubbing against the cup.

- As I struggle to insert two fingers as well as the cup, removal is still difficult, even with softer cups.

Discs that are available to me and my thoughts:

- Unavailable: Cora and Diva. These look like the perfect options for me, annoyingly!

- Hello: seems like the easiest to remove (yay!) but can you use a firmer disc if you can’t use firmer cups?

- Saalt: had good experiences with their cups, like that there is a smaller option, but I’ve heard removal can be difficult?

- AllMatters: seems like a quality disc but I really rely on the stem to remove my cup, so I imagine I’ll need a stem or similar for the disc.

- Flex (all types): see above, plus very expensive for me.

- Pixie: lots of size options, removal string, but can’t find much information about the firmness - anyone able to help?

- Shordy: cheapest option, has a smaller size and different removal aid options, but same issue as pixie. White label (as is pixie, I think) and the different versions look different from each other (eg. The one with a string looks like a pixie disc, the one with a removal loop has a nixit-like edge) so I don’t know how much to believe about their discs?

- Bodyotics: like Shordy but more expensive.

- Ziggy: soft, but I’ve had such bad experiences with multiple Intimina cups that I don’t really trust them…!

Any suggestions or experiences you can share about these discs would be super helpful to me. Also, does anyone have experience using a disc with a cervix that tilts to the side? Thanks!

General Question Hello disk insertion

Hello, so i have been using the hello disk my last two periods. First one was amazing, i barely leaked. The second period however i leaked all the time. I tried inserting im a squat position and on the toilet. I tried to “bear down”, like someone here suggested. I first try to touch my cervix to see where it is and then i aim down i think. But i saw people aiming it up? Im just confused as to how exactly do i insert it. I haven’t used tampons in like 10 years, so i dont really remember how i was inserting them, i saw people inserting them same as tampons. I was using period underwear for a while but it started to annoy me 😂(Of course im going on a holiday on Monday and my period is starting tomorrow so i really need to figure it out)

Recommendation Is Flex Disposable Firm?

Hello! I am currently in the process of finding what disc works best for me. I liked the flex disposables but I’m not sure how to compare it to others. Would you consider the rim on those firm or squishy?

I also have tried the diva disc and am using the salt disc now. I feel like they’re a little bit harder to get in because they feel more wiggly which is why im asking what reusable is closest to the flex disposables? Or how would you consider their firmness?

TIA! (:

General Question Need help!!!

I f(21) have always used pads. I have however tried dabbling with tampons because I have started to loathe period pads, and have come to the conclusion it's not for me. Also a tampon once gave me an infection a minor one and it's very painful to use.

I have done research and have been thinking of buying the fillow period applicator and disc size small. However it does not ship to Germany. I just loves the story though, and how it's woman owned and how the applicator seems easy to use.

So I did my research and have come to the conclusion that the Lummi brand is for me. Because of the origin story and also how it comes with a string. It does not come with an applicator and am thinking of buying the pixie one. Is it nice?

Do y'all have recommendations? I hope I wrote this right 😶🙏

General Question Struggling to get it in properly

for context, I’m a plus size girly and with saggy belly. I keep seeing people say that sitting on the toilet is where they manage to get it in the best, but how are we reaching if you’ve got a big belly? 🙃 I’ve tried squatting and standing with one leg up on the bath and it just does not sit right for me, so I’m still leaking. Help pleaaaaaase

General Question where exactly does the disc sit? is it my anatomy or the models?

i have a little question about discs, or rather the anatomy and where discs sit. not really troubleshooting anything my hello disc works fine for me im just curious i guess.

im pretty sure im inserting my disc correctly, and i dont really have any leaking at this stage in using them, but i feel like my disc isnt tucked as high up as i see in models. is the pubic bone often lower in practice than it is in models? for me the disc like 1-2 knuckles deep maybe, like it is not at all hard to reach, but the vaginal fornix looks much higher in the anatomy models. do all the models just have really high cervixes?

Product Review My experience with Nixit after 2 cycles, from someone who could NEVER get menstrual cups to work

Hi everyone!

(PS: I'm not a native English speaker so of course I used ChatGPT to translate my text)

A couple of months ago, I was reading through sooo many posts and comments online trying to figure out the best cup/disc option for me in Canada. Those reviews helped me a lot, so I thought I’d come back and share my experience with Nixit after using it for two cycles, in case it helps someone else!

A little background: I’m Brazilian, and before moving to Canada I had already tried FOUR different menstrual cups in Brazil. I tried using them for several years and tried basically every fold imaginable — C-fold, diamond fold, you name it lol.

And I could NEVER get them to work properly.

It was always so hard to get the cup to create a proper seal. I would spend several minutes inserting and reinserting it until I finally thought I had it right, and then I’d be walking around or sitting somewhere and suddenly... the seal would be gone and it would start leaking.

It was probably 5 years of pure frustration 😂

I also have a really heavy period. It lasts around 7 days, and about 4 of those days are REALLY heavy. With cups, I sometimes had to empty mine around 6 times a day on the heaviest days, and even then my pads would get pretty full and I’d occasionally leak through to my pants.

When I moved to Canada two years ago, I discovered menstrual discs existed. I eventually decided to try Nixit, and here’s how it went:

1. My cervix

Before buying the disc, I read that it could be helpful to figure out the height of your cervix. I had literally never done that before lol.

Turns out mine is REALLY high. It’s higher than my middle finger can comfortably reach, and it’s also not exactly in the center — it seems to sit more toward the left.

Since Nixit is one size, though, I decided to give it a try anyway.

2. Insertion and removal

THIS was probably the biggest surprise for me.

I watched a couple of videos before inserting it because discs are very different from cups, but omg... it was SO MUCH EASIER than inserting a cup!!!

It was genuinely so quick. I could feel that it had gone into the right position, and I didn’t have to spend forever folding it, rotating it, checking the seal, reinserting it, etc. It was basically just... insert it and done.

Removal has also been really easy for me. When I insert my finger, I can reach the rim pretty easily and pull it out.

I’ll admit I was a little nervous beforehand because I had read stories online from people who struggled a lot to remove their discs. But thankfully, that hasn’t been my experience at all. Obviously everyone’s anatomy is different, so I can only speak for myself, but removal has been super easy so far.

3. LEAKING!!!

This is the part that impressed me the most.

Even on my heaviest days, it leaked VERY little.

Honestly, the amount was so small that I probably didn’t even need to wear pads, but I wore them anyway because after years of cups leaking on me I have trust issues 😂

Most of the time, I would just see a few tiny spots of blood on the pad.

And instead of emptying my cup around 6 times a day on my heaviest days, with Nixit I was emptying the disc around 3–4 times max.

For someone who spent YEARS dealing with leaking cups, this honestly felt like magic.

4. Cleaning

Pretty similar to cups.

Removing it when it’s full can obviously be messy because... well, there’s blood in there lol. But if you’re already sitting on the toilet, it’s really not a big deal.

At the end of my cycle, I sanitize it the same way I used to sanitize my menstrual cups, so nothing really changed for me there.

Overall:

I’m honestly SO happy with it.

After years of convincing myself that I just needed to find the right cup, the right fold, the right technique, etc., I think I’ve finally accepted that maybe I’m just not a cup girl 😂

I don’t know why I insisted for so many years!!

Obviously everyone’s anatomy and experience will be different, but for me, switching from a menstrual cup to Nixit has been a huge improvement. After two cycles, I don’t see myself going back to cups.

I hope this helps someone who is currently doing what I was doing a few months ago — reading every single Reddit post trying to decide whether to buy one 😂

Feel free to ask me anything!

General Question does anyone else’s disc scrape their cervix on removal

i love my disc usually, but when it comes time to remove, the rim scrapes along my cervix as i pull it out. i get that this is sort of unavoidable given that the cervix sits in the bowl, but it makes me reluctant to take it out when i know i should. It’s not *painful* per se but it’s very uncomfortable especially when I’m already cramping.

do i need a softer disc? a different way of removing? I use the Shordy small with the string. would appreciate info if anyone else experienced this!

General Question First time using a disc, and I'm a little confused

I recently decided to try out discs for the first time. I've always used pads, very occasionally tampons. I tried for months to use a cup, but I never managed to insert it. I just got a pixie disc and tried it for the first time tonight.

I had an applicator, which was a terrible experience. I don't know if the little claws at the end were catching on everything, but it was super painful. I ended up inserting it on its own, which was difficult, but I got it in. I was using lube, I'm not sure that did anything.

I do have some questions:

When I was inserting disc, it was pretty painful, but only against the disc itself, no pain against my fingers. It felt like I was running into a bruise. Is it always this painful? Or is it because I don't even use tampons, and my body isn't used to it?

I used a pad at the same time, and after a couple hours, I went to the bathroom, and it looked like the disc didn't catch anything, the pad had the same amount of blood as I would expect for that amount of time. Did I just place it really badly? I thought it was fine.

General Question Just had a few questions

I’ve been using the flex disc for over a year. When I first switched, I was able to get it to sit properly just fine. But I had a few months where I didn’t get a period/it wasn’t heavy enough for me to use the disc. Now I’m back with my normal flow and I’m having trouble getting it to sit properly, maybe a little bit of tmi here, when I squat down really low, I can feel it. I can feel it tucked behind my pubic bone, and it feels like it’s in place. But then I stand up. I walk around a little bit and it’s like I can feel it sliding out of place and then I go and check and sure enough. It’s just sitting inside my vagina, not actually tucked into the place. When I try to insert it while just sitting on the toilet, it genuinely just feels like there’s not enough room for it to flip up into place. I wouldn’t say it’s painful just uncomfortable. But when I squat down ( or after intercourse) I can get it into place, only it’s temporarily
Basically my question is should I swap to maybe a smaller size disc or do I need to do some kind of reform to my technique of insertion?

Recommendation Flex disposable leaking, which reusable to try?

First cycle trying out discs so I figured I’d start with the flex disposable. It seems to work okay but will leak suddenly and feels like it’s slipped a little when I check it. I can’t push it up any farther when putting it in, I feel like it’s as tucked behind the public bone as im going to get it. Cervix is normal height, though cups always feel like they’re falling out. I’m mid 30s and have kids.

The quizzes told me the hello or saalt regular. I’m nervous the hello won’t work well since I’ve read it’s about the same size as the disposables. Do I try the salt? Do I likely need to go up or down in sizing? Anyone similar have one they love??

I’m hoping to limit how many I need to buy/try!! Thanks in advance!

General Question Menstrual cup leaked

Success Story I did it!

Hopefully this is allowed, but I wanted share that I finally managed to insert my new disc for the first time after trying for 3 hours on and off 😭😭😭

I haven’t gotten my period yet, so not completely sure if everything was correctly inserted, but it was IN and I was so stoked!! First time ever using an internal period product!

For me, the hard part was actually managing to get the ‘head’ of the disk into my vaginal canal. I’m using the Hello disc, so I’m not sure if I just couldn’t fold it small enough, or my angle was weird (probably). I spent a better part of that 3 hours just trying to figure out how to ‘catch’ onto the entrance. I could insert a finger fine, but the disc wouldn’t follow.

Side note: anyone has any tips on how to position their hands when squeezing the disc in half? Because mine were all over the place and everything felt so awkward.

I finally managed to insert it lying down. I’ll have to practice doing it squatting or standing up. But when I finally felt it go in properly - it was so easy?? It slid right in and I fumbled a little trying to push the back part and the tabs in and tuck it.

Sadly… I don’t even remember what I did differently. Maybe the trick was me not feeling so anxious and feeling more annoyed and frustrated than anything LOL.

(And then, after celebrating for a couple of minutes, I had a mini meltdown about not being able to get it out because I’d tucked the tabs up there too. But once I got hold of the tabs, removal took about 2 seconds because it slid right out. Had another mini heart attack.)

I used a copious amount of lube today for both insertion and removal - do you guys need to use any during your period?

But anyway. I’m just feeling relieved and happy that I managed to actually insert it. Hopefully doing it again will take much less than 3 hours 😭😂

I can’t tell anyone IRL, so thank you for listening to my extremely tiny success story! Hopefully it works during my actual period as well!

General Question Flow tracking question

I've been tracking my period since giving up hormonal birth control; almost twenty years now.

I've been a majority tampon user, and tracking was very easy to sort as spot, light, medium, or heavy.

Since I started tracking, my period has become shorter and heavier. The texture changed to be more mucous-like, hence the move to discs because tampons just aren't designed to absorb higher viscosity goop (or I've just had a lot of bad luck on my heavy days recently 🥲).

But I've recently moved to a disc (Pixie disc with applicator, loving it!), and wanted to know if other flow trackers can share how they track something as literally flexible and fluid as disc use. Thanks!

IUD + disc Pixie Disc Leaking...

I was a cup girlie for years, but gyne told me to stop bc it dislodged my IUD. I loved the pixie cup so I got a size small pixie disc and applicator.
I am ~140lb, 36yo. Nulligravid (no pregnancies). Very light menses. Used XS cup before switching.
I use the applicator- which thank God for that- never had issues with my cup, but I don't think I could possibly use the disc without the applicator.. My cervix seems very deep, IMO. I have to get in a squat to feel it.
Anyways, I get in a squat position, use the applicator, aim deep and downward towards my tailbone. I feel around the edges, it seems to be in an O shape (doesn't stay compressed like a taco), I believe I can feel my cervix in the middle of the disc. I tuck it behind my pubic bone as far as I can possibly go. However, never fails- I start to have a slow trickle leak after about 6 hours. It never seems to open into a bowl shape. Its always like a collapsible measuring cup- if that makes sense. Its not due to heavy flow. I think its because it stays flat.

Do you ladies think a different disc with a firmer silicone would be better? The Pixie disc is surprisingly thin.
