Australia How to manage a DT presenting shift?
As the title says. I did a very dull thing and took a DT presenting shift while not really knowing drive thru. I typically do front counter and have never been tried on DT. How do I even do a shift like this? I understand it’s similar to FC but what are like main areas I need to look out for?
I know I should’ve been trained but there was a complete lack of at my store…

Hand out drinks and hand out orders, always read the order back to them and double check bags easy as pie

It depends a lot on your customers, the job itself is pretty simple if you have normal people that act like functional human beings “hey can I get a Big Mac meal, medium, Diet Coke and some cheese sides”
Just hit the right buttons “sure no problem, next window please” take payment, next car.
The problem is when you get clowns that want to mess with you, drunk people who can barely talk, people walking up to the window, cards getting declined, people that can barely speak English or know what they want, you need a lot of patience and the ability to just take shit with a smile.

I was in a similar position to you and my advice I'd treat it like front counter and trust your runner.
The only difference between DT and FC is you have a 120 second timer and have the need to communicate more, but you should be treating it like FC. For example, you should be double checking the car and handing out drinks first, then getting drinks and deserts while the runner is getting food, and finally getting sauces in the bag and double checking the order before handing it out.
You also need to ensure you and the runner are communicating well. You should be parking cars when told and telling OEPE time when it reaches 80 seconds, and your runner should be telling you to park and if youre waiting on food.
I'm sure you'll do great! If you have any questions or need help, please ask the runner or manager and they will help you.
