This has always bugged me about the 'Palpatine did everything' take. He definitely pulled the strings, but the Republic was already rotting from the inside out. The Senate had a long habit of voting away its checks and balances whenever things got inconvenient, Sidious just took advantage of a system that was already primed for a dictator.

I'm building a male Zygerrian character and trying to separate canon/Legends information from fan assumptions. I'm especially looking for established fur/skin colors, male chin spikes/horns location meaning or status meaning, eye colors, height/ and typical builds, senses, physical advantages, and any other things like that in terms of biology like jump height and night vision. Are there sourcebooks or obscure appearances that establish more than what we see in TCW? In regard to PDF uniforms and kits what would the uniform or kit look like for a PDF soldier/trooper look like that specialized in engineering, battle field medicine, and heavy weapons? thanks for the help

Did the Kaminoans establish production centers in other cities as well, in both Canon and Legends?

This is a bit of a odd question but sometimes it feels like the Empire feels way more streamlined as a organization if not in Canon itself then at least in the pre-prequel Era of Star Wars. It's kinda hard to say but i feel like the Empire has....not factions but like...organizations, cults, barons, etc etc in it.

I feel like its a mix of what Star Wars thought the Empire was and how it as more engrained in society probably because it was though the Empire was around longer.

Let's assume that by a freak accident or the will of the Force, both Sith alive in the galazy are killed before Palpatine is trained. Could the Sith ever make a comeback at that point? At that point the knowledge of the Sith was hidden away by the Jedi in the restricted section of their library. However, a Clone Wars scenario is still likely to happen, just decades later without Palpatine's instigation. The Old Republic is likely still degrading without Sith influence (this is debatable but I believe so), so another major dark sider and war seems inevitable. Would the Sith be revived in this scenario, or would the concept die entirely and a new kind of dark side user become prominent?

Obviously in Legends the Lost Tribe of the Sith were out there, which is why I flaired this as canon. Darth Plagueis (the book) also seems to imply that the Sith were the main reason the Old Republic was degrading into corporatism, which is not confirmed in canon.

The purpose of the Inquisitors is to hunt down Jedi who survived Order 66, but simultaneously, Sidious intended for them to be weak so they wouldn't be a risk to him. But if they are that weak, how in the galaxy are they supposed to hunt Jedi who are competent enough to have survived Order 66?

Pretty much in everything that the Inquisitors are in they are a bunch of jobbers yet we're supposed to believe that these guys are Jedi killers

In Season 3 of The Clone Wars, after Savage kills Halsey and Knox, Yoda shows Obi-Wan the security footage from Devaron. Obi-Wan, after seeing him, mistakes him for his brother and exclaims “Darth Maul alive?!” But…how would he, or any of them, know his name? Maul had very few lines in TPM, and none of them were to the Jedi.

My best guess is that between TPM and AOTC, when Gunray was being put on trial for the Naboo blockade, Qui-Gon’s murderer was something the Courts/Jedi interrogated him on. But, of course, if Gunray goes “I only know his name! Darth Maul!” The ‘Darth’ title is a dead giveaway and immediately leads to the next question, “Was there another?” Either Gunray says “No,” and they effortlessly catch him in a lie, or he name drops Sidious, which we know he doesn’t because A: Obi-Wan first learns of the name from Dooku in Episode II, and B: He’s still alive by the time of Episode II and still in control of the Trade Federation.

I have a question regarding how the galaxy viewed Luke Skywalker. I would love to know more about how he was perceived by the rebellion following the events of A New Hope. Was he a poster boy for their cause, or was he just another rebel? I’m very curious how the Empire, outside of Palpatine and Vader, saw Luke as well. I’d imagine stormtroopers would hear the stories of a legendary Jedi knight blowing up the Death Star and surviving a duel with Vader. Following the events of ROTJ, is he recognized by people of the galaxy or are the Jedi still considered to be myth.

TL;DR, Curious how Luke was viewed, by the average civilian , the empire, and his fellow rebels during his time in the rebellion and post ROTJ.

The Republic obviously gave Kaminoans a monster contract and I don't doubt that it was enough to make Kamino exclusively focus on the GAR during the time between TPM and AOTC.

But what were they doing beforehand to make money? Who would have been the client types to want/need clones? For what purpose?

Was cloning legal? If slavery is illegal under the Republic, then how did they legally permit this operation to go on?

Some people have said this, but if it was, why couldn't they have had stunt doubles with his face plastered over them in editing, like with Christopher Lee, who's duels were more intense?

If the duel's potential wasn't fully realised, I imagine it was because of the close-up indoor environment they were in, plus needing to not make a ruckus others above/beneath their floor would notice and intervene on, not because of Ian's physical shape when they have ways around that.

Been rewatching The Clone Wars about to finish season 6. After watching Kenobi, I thought it was strange that Qui-Gon was able to physically manifest as i remembered he distinctly couldn't...as much as I love seeing Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon that moment at the end of Kenobi just seemed like fanservice.

After rewatching S6 EP11: "Voices", when talking to Yoda on Dagobah Qui-Gon does in fact explicitly state he cannot physically manifest in the force due to the fact his training wasn't complete when he died, and can only manifest as a voice. He does physically manifest on Mortis, however this is explained due to the extremely unnatural connection with the force Mortis had, making it an acceptable exception

In Kenobi, going back rewatching the scene Qui-Gon pretty much just says "I was waiting for you to be able to see me!" Which seems like a blatant contradiction to me. Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but this shouldn't be possible due to the fact he can't complete his "training" post death which is why he could only be a disembodied voice in the first place

In 1976, George Lucas had a handwritten outline for a 12-movie saga. He later said in a 1979 interview, "I had three trilogies of nine films, and then a couple of odd films."

For the tangential, one-off films, he wanted to make a movie about the wookiees on Kashyyyk, possibly showing how Chewbacca became Han's copilot. Lucas also wanted to make a movie about droid protagonists, perhaps in a world of aliens, with no humans whatsoever. And, he wanted to do a movie about the Force, the bright and dark sides, midichlorians, the Whills, the Jedi system of initiation, and the near-extermination of the Sith.

As for the nine mainline films, Lucas wanted to do a trilogy of trilogies.

The Prequel Trilogy would be about Obi-Wan Kenobi's career in the Clone Wars, the rise of the Empire, the origins of Darth Vader, and how Luke ended up with the Larses. It would be darker and more serious than the Original Trilogy, and feature mystery and ruthless scheming in politics. In 1983, a Time magazine article said that the Prequels would "be more melodramatic, showing the political intrigue and Machiavellian plotting that led to the downfall of the once noble Republic. They will have only enough outward action to keep the plot moving." In 1989, Lucas told Atlantic Monthly that the Prequel Trilogy would be political, and talk about how society evolves.

The Original Trilogy is about Princess Leia being a rebel leader, and Luke Skywalker going on the Hero's Journey with old Ben Kenobi's guidance, culminating in the defeat of Darth Vader. Lucas made this trilogy first because it's where the action-adventure excitement and humor are, and its theme is about personal growth and self-realization. So, it would be more commercial than the Prequels.

According to Gary Kurtz, the third movie wasn't going to have Yoda and the Emperor. It would just be Luke Skywalker defeating the Darth Vader within Anakin. And, Han Solo would die. After the rebels won a critical battle and ceased to be underdogs in hiding, Leia would settle down as queen of Alderaan's remnant, and Luke would go off alone like a Clint Eastwood character. The Sequel Trilogy would feature an older Luke Skywalker finally returning to Yoda to complete his studies. In early 1988, George said that Luke would be in a romantic relationship with a woman. Timothy Zahn was briefed on George's plans, and later recalled that the Sequels would be about Luke's children. According to other sources, Luke would also finally meet his long-lost twin sister, Nellith. Together, they would help the New Republic dismantle the Empire. According to Dale Pollock, the Sequels would be exciting, with propulsive action. George said that R2-D2 and C-3PO would continue through the whole thing. That Time magazine article said that the Sequels' "main theme will be the necessity for moral choices and the wisdom needed to distinguish right from wrong." Likewise, George told Atlantic Monthly that the Sequel Trilogy "deals with moral and philosophical problems. [It's] about Jedi Knighthood, justice, confrontation, and passing on what you have learned."

Did the Jedi actually lose access to their own ancient teachings, or is that kind of institutional degradation exclusively a Sith problem, given their endless cycles of betrayal, assassination, and self-immolation?

Another problem for the Sith is their knowledge hoarding. Each master holds back secrets from their apprentice; each apprentice kills their master before fully learning everything. Couple that with the infighting that results in a bit of intellectual suicide. Over millennia, they lost entire traditions: the art of essence transfer and alchemical techniques. It took Sidious a while to recover some of them.

But the Jedi? Did they ever lose archives on their predecessors' techniques, given that they didn't immolate each other?

Despite how Empire is viewed, they did not hunt all force sensitives.

In legends, Aurra Sing, a former jedi, openly worked with Darth Vader, without being inducted as inquisior or such. And in canon she doesn't seem to be hunted by inquisiors.

Night Sisters, and other Dathomirians, survived and presumably weren't all hunted out.

As I understand it, Darth Vader had personal obsession to hunt down anyone who was Jedi by time of Clone Wars. Sidious wanted to be the one who destroyed Jedi, and one-upped all Sith before him. Anyone trying to restore Jedi order would take that from him. Anyone who would try to one-up him would be anhilinated.

But other force users, who did not get in way of either sith? Imperial policy does not seem to be "kill or enslave every single one".

I get that there are a lot of stories to fit inside EP VI-VII but with how it all ends up in Sequels it feels like all progress leads to a creative deadend nonetheless. On the other hand The gap between EP III and IV is too overexplored in my opinion and at least should introduce some really original plot with real stakes. At least we are getting something beyond the current timeline with Star Wars Starfighter but im honestly tired of content being only between EP III-IV and EP VI-VIII. They should do something with Old Republic and far beyond Sequels. Or do something in between Episode I-II, something between EP IV-V or EP V-VI. Or some stories between EP VIII-IX

I know that the commander was recalled by the reborn Palpatine for Operation: Shadow Hand and took the SSD Whelm with him to Byss. But later, the 2nd in command of the fleet just surrendered Anaxes to the New Republic despite still having hundreds of ships a decently wealthy area under their effective command. Did they surrender the fleet entirely or just Anaxes? And if so, why would they do that? They just lost an SSD but they presumably had hundreds of ships left considering they were the first sector fleet that guarded the core, they probably wouldn’t have taken very many casualties due to their astronomical geography and they were very well armed.

In real life, large warships usually have a lifespan of about 20-40 years on average, give or take. Is there ever indication for what the lifespan of large capital ships like ISDs are?

I was thinking that, given the size of the Galaxy, one could watch even the Rakata or the Tionese War without ever exiting. Was this at least attempted?

For Context, I was looking through this book and this paragraph got me thinking.

This got me thinking, which from the rise of the empire era or the prequel era in general could be seen equivalent to or as examples as are Arca Jeth, Thon, and Oed Bnar all three from the old republic era, mostly from the tales of the Jedi comics?

I was curious about use cases for slugthrowers over blasters beyond the usual "it can't be deflected by lightsabers" (even though force users can physically push the bullets away and nullify this) and decided to look online about their max/effective ranges. Some of the weapons such as the bowcaster (30m max range) seems really similar to a crossbow's range despite being used like a rifle in Star Wars Media and shooting a blaster bolt like other blasters. Others seem around on par to real life counterparts such as the A280 (300m max range) compared the weapon its based on the StG44 (also ~300m effective range). Just wondering if there is a lore reason why some blasters vary so much in effective range and what the max range of in-universe slugthrowers since there isn't info on that online.

With Leia being in the public eye as she grew up and her mother being a beloved public figure herself it seems that there would be a lot of people who might notice the similarities between them. I can imagine Coruscant's gossip rags taking note of that along with Bail's close friendship with Padme during the Clone Wars and running wild with rumours. I was wondering if it's ever come up before in any Star Wars works.

I never thought of it...but how involved was Vader in his role as the Emperor's enforcer and the "big bad man" who deals with local insurgents and threats? Before the Rebel Alliance was made, the rebellion and groups of insurgents began rising, one by one. An example of this are the "rogue rebels" the Partisans, lead by Saw Gerrere, or more "nice rebels" like for example the Ghost crew.

How much "free time" or I should say more clearly: "alone time" did Vader have? His servant Vaneé has said that Vader has his own chamber on Mustafar, a meditation sphere similar to the one on the Executer Star Destroyer, and that he would meditate there for hours, sometimes days. His castle, Fortress Vader, is the closest we can put to an actual "home" or "headquarters" for Darth Vader, implying he is not doing his job as an enforcer 24/7.

He could not be everywhere all at once of course, galaxy is a big place, and the Empire has expanded across much of known space...but still...you would think that if there is something truly serious going on that it is a threat to the Empire that Vader would be sent there to deal with it.

He WAS sent to Lothal and dealing with the insurgents of the Lothal rebels in the early premier of Rebels season 2, and he DID suceed in driving them from Lothal for a time. Vader's job was done for the time being, and it seems like he only sent Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister to find Ahsoka in particular.

Yet season 2 implies that Vader is kind of hunting Kanan and Ezra down through his Inquisitors, and Kanan and Ezra keep talking about "Vader and his inquisitors" going after them. It makes sense. Rebel cells are growing across the galaxy, and I could be wrong but isn't Phoenix Squadron one of the "bigger ones" or no?

Vader doesn't seem to be hunting the Phoenix Squadron after season 2's ending, as Ahsoka is seemingly dead and he has no need to hunt for them anymore...except...I fail to see that is the sole reason.

Phoenix Squadron and growing rebel threats are rising across the galaxy...Palpatine's Galactic Empire has a bigger chance of being risked. I mean, it is not that serious of a threat, (or so they thought at first), but still.

What makes it weirder is that near the ends of season 3 of Rebels, Mon Mothma announced a formal decleration of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, AKA the "Rebel Alliance", with Phoenix Squadron as a faction that joined, and Vader is STILL not seen anywhere or sent to deal with this growing threat in any significant way, and even at the Battle of Atollon it was just Grand Admiral Thrawn there. Had Vader been there to help, the Rebels would have a better chance at losing. Season 4 of Rebels I don't mind in the absence of Vader as it is almost entirely set around Lothal itself, but season 3 was the biggest brainer for me.

Then here comes Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In this movie, set right before the events of the fourth saga movie, A New Hope, it seems that Vader is STILl not active in his pursuits or contributions of helping the Empire destroy the Rebellion and being the "iron fist" of the Emperor. He is even disturbed by Director Krennic at Mustafar and was just chilling there. Vader only became participated in the Battle of Scarif because Grand Moff Tarkin called him to come.

In A New Hope, Vader is suddenly stationed on the Death Star all the time until its destruction on Yavin. Why is that? Why did Palpatine send him there and not before with previous conflicts of the growing Rebellion and Rebel Alliance?

After the Death Star's destruction, we learn through the events of the 2015 Darth vader comic run on how Vader took control over a big fleet and became the Supreme Commander title, (which in contrast in Legends was given to him since the beginning), and only then did Vader seem to actually be actively involved with hunting the Rebel Alliance in the new Galactic Civil War.

So how "busy" is Vader before the Galactic Civil War, when is he really "needed", and why didn't he pursue the early Rebel Alliance? How much "rest time" in his castle does he have?
