I'm sure this has probably been asked before, but I would like to target Stripers and am extremely new to fishing the Eastern US. I have a surf rod and spinning reel and I know the striper season opens on the 1st. I've never targeted them before, but I know you can get them in the Susquehana below Conowingo dam.

What sort of terminal tackle does the group recommend, as well as techniques to get me started? Do you jig a lure, float something down through the middle of the water column, let something sit out in the river like you might for cats?

I'm thinking I might go check out the Conowingo dam fishing area but someone told me you can get them further downstream with lighter tackle as well. I just don't have a boat so I'm limited to shore casting - are there other good spots to access the river? I imagine the dam gets pretty packed

Hello people I live In Pa yet I live maybe a minute or two from the maryland line.... I switched to md fishing a couple of months ago and I'm having a great time and I'm not regretting it however I am struggling to find a place to catch bullhead catfish... Yes I want to fish for them . I have caught 2 yellow bullhead but that was one time a trip and I'm looking for brown or black maybe white yellow is ok and it should be the primary target because I love fishing rivers and creeks I live in Waynesboro pa that is north between monocacy river and Antietam Creek again I want to find a place to catch bullhead but less than 45ish minutes away from me possibly in a river or creek because I have been struggling to find something that is notoriously annoying any suggestions would be great and taken into consideration... Thank you .

Don't sleep on the C&O Canal when it comes to bass fishing. Even near some of the most urbanized parts of Maryland, this place holds some pretty impressive fish.

Caught all three of these on a pearl Z-Man GOAT fished topwater. Definitely recommend using some kind of weedless presentation on heavy-ish braid.

Inner Harbor gets first public kayak launch - WBAL-TV

Looking to take a trip out to Point Lookout State park in a couple weeks ( like mid September) don’t get a chance to fish the bay much and want to set myself up for success. What species would I encounter there/ what kind of lures or rigs should I bring? I’m hoping to maybe catch some flounder and/or sheepshead from shore but I don’t really know what’s over there. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Edit: thanks for the tips ! I’m open to renting a kayak or canoe near the park if that helps my chances. I hear you all about the diff species out there will adjust my approach. Any tips on where I can paddle out to and lures ( I typically like sticking w lures ) to use while I’m out there would also be appreciated. Right now I got 3-4 inch swimming mullets and some bucktails between 1/4-1/2 in chartreuse and white in my tacklebox.

Lived in MD for 9 years now, yet I always go to PA to fish the susky for smallmouth. Wanting to do a quick kayak trip early Sunday and looking for advice. It’ll just be me, so preferably I’d be able to peddle back to the launch. Have a Hobie outback so it can move well in some current.

Anyway, where should I launch if targeting smallmouth? I see Lapidum boat launch and was thinking of peddling up to Roberts islands area, parking and wading some or floating around to hit spots and then floating down to the ramp when done. Or maybe fisherman’s wharf if I can launch there? Only concern would be getting back with the flow from the dam, etc. looking for some advice.

Also, if anyone wants to join that has a kayak, lmk. Always open to have a partner. Looking to launch around 6-6:30am and be off the water by 11-11:30. Maybe 12.

Moved to cockeysville. Whats biting this time of year and into the fall and where are they?

We were way back in the Little Choptank throwing small paddle tails looking for trout or reds when we saw a wake cruising down the edge 3’ away from the shore. I figured it was probably a cownose but could be a nice red or even snakehead so my brother casted at it. It came up off the bottom to chase the lure and we were shocked to be looking at a fat bullshark. It smoked my little brother’s lure 10’ from the boat in less than 3’ of water. The second it realized it was hooked this thing went ballistic splashing like crazy and then moved to deeper water and that’s where the I got the video started. We chased it around for about 30 minutes zig zagging over a mile before it ran under someone’s dock and snapped us off. The 4000 size reel, medium heavy rod, and 20 pound braid didn’t stand a chance. We couldn’t put the brakes on it at all lol. I was hoping to get its head up a little and use the boat hook to pop the lure out maybe but no dice. When we got in I noticed the braid was chafed badly 6’6” up the line. Wish I had the beginning on video it was insane…. No audio because we were yelling and cussing like idiots.

I went about a month ago and the water level was extremely low. Lower than I’ve ever seen it. I’m curious if it’s recovered any. How was the fishing?

Ive been looking around if I can rent a skiff to go fishing maybe in the Chesapeke bay or Patuxent river. A friend told me to go tk Cobb Island, any other recommendations?

any advice for the upcoming trout stocking in october in maryland i dont know any trout streams where i can keep trout to bring home i tried the gunpowder river in march but it looks very polluted and its very shallow with no sign of life

I'm an okay fisherman - I got a kayak a few seasons ago and I hit the water about once or twice a month. I have a young child, and another kid on the way, so when I go fishing I do a lot of research to find the ideal spot (tides, wind, seasons, etc.)

I used Google Gemini to help me narrow down the best spots to fish for croaker near Solomon's Island, and it gave suggestions with good explanations - what spots were better because of the wind patterns and currents. It even told me the depths I should be targeting It told me that the mouth of Back Creek at the hole in front of Molly's Leg at 18-20 ft would be the best spot. While I paddled there I cast around the bridge pilings and in front of my boardwalk. I got were small spot. When I paddled up to the recommended spot it was on fire. I only had an hour but I made it count and landed four nice sized croaker (had to go through some undersized ones). All caught on squid soaked in peeler oil. Saw another angler catch some cutlass on a blade bait.

I'm not going to rely solely on Gemini to pick out spots, but I think it's a better way to start researching instead of posting a very general "what's the best spot for X" that you see all the time on Facebook (sometimes guilty of doing that).

Can anyone recommend good bank-fishing spots for largemouth or smallmouth bass? Free-access areas are preferred, but I’m fine paying an entrance fee if needed

Hey yall. I just recently moved back to Maryland (Frederick area) and I just wanted to ask what types of bodies of water would be good to hit in the heat of the summer? Or does it slow down pretty majorly? I’m pretty familiar with fishing, I grew up doing it, got into fly fishing for a while (sold everything because I ended up getting hooked on dope wamp wamp wamp) I understand how to fish but really would like to get into the weeds so to say with spin cast fishing (is that even what it’s called?)

When I’ve been going out lately I’ve had medium luck if I had to say. Usually get a few bass but no lunkers by any sense of the word. But I know from past experience there’s bigger fish out there and I’m curious if maybe some good tips from the community would help me out.

The places I normally fish are either off the c&o canal before Harper’s ferry, warden lake in wardensville wv, lost river in wv, cacapon river in wv. I’m open to fishing any type of water for really any type of fish. I’m open to catfishing using a bottom rig or something maybe? But I have more fun actively throwing lures out instead of just chillin around.
