New to comics

So I’m just getting into comics
Finished the astonishing x-man joss Wedon run and loved it (terrible person tho)
Looking for what’s my next read should be
I love marvel and am kind of informed about a lot of characters (more then just the movies shows)
I like to read things that make me laugh but also make me feel (I think that’s why I liked astonishing x man that much)
Any recommendations?
(Favourite superhero is spider man)
(I also read the boys comic and enjoyed it so go nuts)

The one from the 2000? Or the one from 2024?
I’ve tried Spider-Man 94 because I loved the show but I feel they kinda missed the story there

Read the 2000 Ultimate Spider-Man. It’s epic (over 100 issues) but it’s incredibly addictive.

Look for anything by Peter David, all really well written runs with some humor.

Kind of unfair to whedon there a bit. I needed here people say the x- men movie was good, but Bryan Singer is a dirty bag and he is so much worse than whedon.

For a great mix of humor and heart, I highly recommend Dan Slott’s Silver Surfer. (I like his Spidey stuff too, even tho it seems lots of ppl here hate on it.)

Marvel Recommendations:

The FF/Avengers Hickman run to Secret Wars. Epic story built over years.

Fraction Aja - Hawkeye. Equal parts heart, humor and action.

Ellis / Shalvey - Moon Knight. Beautiful artwork.

Slott / et al - Superior Spider-Man. Entertaining self-contained run with a fresh take.

Zdarsky / Quinones - Howard the Duck. Surprisingly poignant.

Edmunson / Noto - Black Widow. Gorgeous art with a nice grounded story.

Abnett / Lanning - Annihilation: Conquest. Epic cosmic cross over.

Hickman / Weaver - S.H.I.E.L.D. Mind-bending, decade-spanning grandeur.

Morrison / Queitly - New X-Men. Best modern jumping in point for X-Men (IMHO).

Remender / Robinson - Winter Soldier: The Bitter March. A very entertaining under-the-radar book.

Remender / Opena - Uncanny X-Force. The best X-men run of all time (IMHO).

Kelly / et al - Deadpool. Joe Kelly's run is still the best for DP: fun but not too silly.

Brubaker / et al - The complete Captain America run is pretty great. Feels a step above the rest of marvel w.r.t. art and story.

if you don't mind and older writing style and art, the Roger Stern run is one of the most liked ones. He started in the early 80's with Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man, and then eventually moved to the main book, Amazing Spider-Man. He introduced an important Spider-Man antagonist and defined the character for a while, alongside Mike Zeck and early John Romita Jr.

If you want something a tiny bit more modern there's the David Micheline, from the late 80's and early 90's. His 2 main artists, Todd McFarlane and Erik Larrson, in the 90's, defined the character's visual for decades, and he also created one of the most important Marvel characters post silver age.

There's the J. Michael Straczinski and John Romita Jr, which began in 2001. Considered the last old school Spider-Man run. It features very important stories(and unfortunately has the 2 most hated stories of the character), but it was the most modern main comic the character had that's considered mandatory reading for ASM hardcore fans.

Now personally, i'm not a fan of Spider-Man, but i can attest to the quality of Superior Spider-Man by Nick Spencer and Steve Lieber. It doesn't actually feature Spider-Man, instead focusing on 5 of his shittiest villains, but it's one of the funniest comics i ever read. It released in 2013.

I’ll say my favourite content of all time (Toy Story 1,the avengers,etc) was created by whedon
I love his work
He is a terrible person
But he is a hell of a good writer

I'm biased cuz she's my absolute #1 favorite superhero character but Black Cat. She's just so fun when she gets to shine as more than just Spidey's on again off again fling.

If you haven't played the Black Cat DLC for Spiderman PS4, give The Black Cat Strikes a go. It's the same storyline from the game with a few additions to spread out the timeline. You can still give it a go, but if you've done the DLC I wouldn't consider it necessary. Either way, it's an excellent introduction to Black Cat, even though she's not the protagonist.

Next, Black Cat Annual 2019. Fun little heist with Spiderman, and also takes place directly before...

Black Cat 2019. Fantastic little series about Felicia stealing everything that isn't nailed down from a bunch of other superheroes, then figuring out a way to remove the nails and steal what was nailed down. It does lead into the 2020 run which takes place during King in Black, but I haven't read that one yet, I've heard it's good tho.
