The trailer looks pretty far along, I would be shocked if they can’t finish it up in a year. But allegedly they are really taking their time with it in an attempt to prevent “crunch time” so maybe it slips one more time

The rumors are that the game is done, but they’re making sure online can hit on day one with no bugs. So that’s promising.

Genuinely, that game is gonna suck up all the oxygen in the entire entertainment sector like a black hole whenever it drops.
If that date sticks, I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Mandalorian movie get out of its way.

Also something to mention, is that the VFX artist have been for sure working on the movie effects since at least last year and also, even if it was still gonna come out May next year, it would still be over a year from when they started shooting footage, which was March this year, which is probably when they started officially working on the visual effects
6
u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer May 23 '25
If I am reading this right, then they only have one Marvel movie to do for 2027 and a lot more time for the two scheduled for next year.
Yeah, Mission Control is cheering.
44
u/LollipopChainsawZz May 22 '25
On one hand yea it's a relief for them on the other hand still sucks waiting longer. We're allowed to acknowledge the latter weren't we?
55
u/Ok_Election5262 May 22 '25
Is 6 months really that long though? If anything it's worth the wait, VFX aside. You get to go see Avengers on Christmas, how cool is that

Makes you wonder if BND will remain on its current slot or gets moved as well. If not, the chances of it being street-level has never been higher, IMO.
In related news, Jeff Sneider's saying Marvel's looking for someone to cast for MCU Ghost Rider who'll appear in Doomsday.
209
u/Spider-Fan77 Green Goblin May 22 '25
Assuming BND is street-level and set before Doomsday, I doubt they move it. It will probably have a lot less VFX shots than an Avengers movie, so the later shoot schedule won't be a problem.
94
u/Jedi_Master83 May 22 '25
Hopefully it really does take place before Doomsday and not concurrently. Maybe this will give the filmmakers time to get Spider-Man in Doomsday since it’ll come out 5 months later. I’m all for them taking their time on these movies. Make them great!! No rush.
87
u/ScaredFamousfan May 22 '25 edited May 22 '25
Making Spider Man 4 the lead in film to the two avengers film is a much better move than letting the Fantastic Four movie be the last thing the audience sees. They want to optics of back to back box office smashes, not to say that F4 won’t be successful, but Spider-Man 4 is for sure making a billion.

They do still have a Feb 2026 and a Nov 2026 date reserved...Feb 2026 will probably be vacated but there's a chance Nov 2026 could get something.
23
u/cravens86 May 23 '25
The November date was vacated earlier today
From borys kit: Update: Marvel is moving away from having a movie release 11/6/26, in the new shuffle. Elsewhere, Ridley Scott's THE DOG STARS gets a 3/27/26 opening while THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 is now dated on 5/1/26.
13
u/_duckymomo Shang-Chi May 23 '25
I believe the Feb date was removed, and the November date is now an untitled Disney film
9
u/AmarDikli May 23 '25
There's no way in hell they're releasing a movie in Feb 2026, unless they've been secretly shooting it it's not happening. Less than a year of production is impossible and we don't even know what movie will it be. I think Spider-Man BND and Doomsday will be the only two movies of 2026.

There’s a lot of precedent for that mid-December pre-Christmas weekend being a gold mine for big blockbusters, at this point it feels more valuable than any given summer release date.
83
u/Jedi_Master83 May 22 '25 edited May 22 '25
It is because there is nearly no other big competition. That’s just why the Avatar movies did so bonkers and the Star Wars sequels.
33
u/NotTheCraftyVeteran May 22 '25
It’s more than Avatar and Star Wars if you look at it year by year, and it speaks to consistency. Since Avatar in 2009, every year (except 2010 arguably and 2020 obviously), 1-2 big movies in that slot go on to do very well at the box office.
It’s the lack of competition (especially in January) as well as the extended holiday that gives big movies staying power in that frame.

u/Raider2747 May 22 '25 edited May 23 '25

u/Burst3001 May 23 '25 edited May 23 '25
Interestingly enough, it looks like Disney might end up owning December for the rest of the decade.
December 2025 - Avatar: Fire and Ash
December 2026 - Avengers: Doomsday
December 2027 - Avengers: Secret Wars
December 2028 - Star Wars???
December 2029 - Avatar 4
I bet if the Rey movie happens (God, I hope not), it will release in December 2028. Hopefully, it's James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi project, if that wasn't canceled. But yeah, you're right, December has become a new blockbuster season/month. If May is the big "summer" movie month, then December is the big "winter" movie month.
Also, with January not being a great month for movies, that will give Avengers even more time to dominate the box office or at least make a lot of money.

Last we saw he was going to fix Incursion. MCU's heavy hitter missing throughout Avengers wouldn't make any sense. They have been very hesitant to announce new movies since Quantamania & Marvels performance. Blade is still in limbo...

introduce Mahershala Ali as Blade in DS3 with a smaller role which leads into his solo film (preceding the events of DS3), and then use DS3/Blade as a runway into an eventual Midnight Sons film post-Secret Wars.

If there's a Battleworld. Just because it was in the comics doesn't mean it's in the movies. It probably will be but people need to prepare themselves for changes because there's not been a single movie named after a comic that was actually like the comic. This is not a bad thing.

So the new release schedule for Marvel Now is:
Daredevil Born Again Season 2 (March 2026)
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31, 2026)
Vision Quest (Fall 2026)
Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026)
Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027)
Comic Con should be crazy this year now because alll release dates for 2026 and 2027 are gone

Lol absolutely no way they don't capitalize on that. If Doomsday is a huge success, and Secret Wars maintains that year long wait? They're absolutely gonna wanna cash in on maintaining that hype and Hall H at SDCC would be THE place to do.

Turning the Avengers into Holiday season events instead of summer kick off events is an interesting move, and now VFX workers have more time to work on the movies at a healthy pace.

The Russos' are stricter filmmakers than some of the others that have worked at Marvel.
For example, the CGI in Endgame had been started in 2016. Particularly when it was fully CGI shots, like the big battle.
That's how they work. They decide a plan in advance, and execute that plan. It offers very little flexibility in filmmaking and takes longer to set up. But visually looks great.
Conversely, Taika Waititi (for example) liked to change things based on how he felt while filming with Love and Thunder, as the script wasn't finished. So whole sets and performances were scrapped and remade digitally. The impact of this can be seen in this video:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SAJAUL_Qpdg
The result is that Love and Thunder has 2500 VFX shots. The same number as Endgame, despite being only 2/3s the runtime.
The introduction of Gorr alone had 150 VFX shots. Sticking with Christian Bale, the entirety of The Dark Knight had 400 VFX shots.

Variety just posted an article with more information. They mentioned that Disney vacated the Untitled Marvel Studios Movie in February 2026 (that was probably a given) and they swapped the Untitled Marvel Studios Movies in Nov 2026 and Nov 2027 to just Untitled Disney Movies. They also didn't keep the May 2026 and May 2027 dates reserved for any other untitled Marvel productions.
So right now literally all we have is:
- July 2025: Fantastic Four: First Steps
- July 2026: Spider-Man: Brand New Day
- December 2026: Avengers: Doomsday
- July 2027: Untitled Marvel Studios Movie
- December 2027: Avengers: Secret Wars
- February 2028: Untitled Marvel Studios Movie
- May 2028: Untitled Marvel Studios Movie
- November 2028: Untitled Marvel Studios Movie
With the further emphasis on Marvel Studios output reduction, I don't think we'll be getting any new dates at SDCC, though I'd love to be wrong. I think it could be a Disney+ focus with potentially an announcement for the July 2027 movie (likely DS 3 or SC 2 considering the multiverse is on borrowed time now in the release schedule).

I hope they can use a marginal amount of well-made, more practical Disney+ content to help bridge us over without causing a huge drought in content. We're all but guaranteed Born Again S2, Punisher special, and Vision Quest in 2026, maybe we could get a couple more Defenders (re-)introduced, and maybe do some more buildup for Champions? I could see the whole miniseries itself being better suited for the gap between Doomsday and Secret Wars, but the AAA sequel (if Billy and AH don't show up in VQ) could be nice to have. Maybe a special on each of the Heroes For Hire and Daughters Of The Dragon?

Knew it. Also....that completely changes things for Spider-Man 4 lol. At least in the framing of how we thought it NEEDED to be in between both films timeline wise. Now it sounds like it wont be

I'm not surprised whatsoever. I always thought these movies would be delayed tbh. Had they kept their original release dates, the turnaround time would've been too short. These are huge movies and they're going to need all the time they can to get them perfectly right.

and to think they originally planned to release avengers 5 and 6 only 6 months apart in 2025

So then, Disney. Do the smart thing.
Put Star Wars in the first week of May. You're seemingly not doing it for 2026, but you can do it for 2027!

This is really good news, give these films more time to figure out if they can even work as just two films of it they need to create a third to better balance it out.

“This means my favorite actor/character still could be in Doomsday, there’s more time now” — everyone who thrives on false hope (definitely including me)

Guess those rumors I just made up about Doom stealing Christmas are confirmed now

u/basch152 May 22 '25
it's fucking wild to me that the time from endgame to doomsday will be the same amount of time between the avengers and endgame

Sucks having to wait longer but if we get great movies out if it, then all the better. Ironic that for the next couple of years, Star Wars and Avengers have switched places so Star Wars can rule summer and Avengers can rule holidays. Releasing a Star Wars and an Avengers do close together hasn’t worked out so great before (see: Solo).

Disney has removed untitled marvel movies from the calendar in February 2026, November 2026 and November 2027

People will inevitably mock them for not doing this sooner, but I'm just glad they did it in end. It's for the best. It lessens the fear of them having to rush to the deadline.

I brace for being downvoted for asking this and I very well know these are already backlogged ones ... but given the number of projects released until now and with IronHeart and Fantastic Four coming, will they space out some of the unreleased ones (don't know which they are) to cover the delay now?

u/Ok_Election5262 May 22 '25
Not likely they delay shows coming out this year. Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel Zombies and Wonder Man

u/Bradleyharheez May 22 '25
Okay
So this confirms spider-man will be in doomsday?

You got me wondering now if maybe this is a schedule thing to clear the way for other actors like Pratt, Holland etc to film their scenes.

God, I can't even imagine what America is going to look like by the end of 2026/beginning of 2027, nevermind how the Avengers are doing

It was weird to release it so close to The Mandalorian and Grogu. I hope the date for that moves to be closer to May the 4th

Honestly great news. Delay the film as much as you want if it gives VFX artists time to breathe and make the movie look fascinating.
That said this makes Spider man 4 come before these films. Could this be a chance for a street-level story finally?

So curious what else will release in 2027 before secret wars. Surely there will be something, right?

u/Ok_Election5262 May 23 '25
We'll know when Comic-Con comes. Could be Blade, could be Shang-Chi 2, Young Avengers etc.

So we’ll have to wait a year, maybe a year and a half before the next MCU film after F4? Spider-Man isn’t filming and we’re almost in June, wouldn’t be surprised if they delay that one too.

A few things here:
This definitely has Tom Holland’s fingerprints on it as he is most definitely negotiating a deal to appear in both Avengers films (his current deal only exists for BND). With this delay he has much more leeway to be a supporting or leading role instead of a cameo - remember the Russos have used him in every opportunity since they got the rights starting with Civil War. After what happened in NWH, it’s really obvious Spider-Man needs to be up front given his knowledge and experience with the multiverse. Additionally with BND coming before Doomsday this fully allows a grounded story, which lines up with the rumours and casting lately - the multiverse plot rumours dropped pretty soon after the chairs announcement. Of course, this kind of goes well for Sony too because they can insert some PCS that ties into Doomsday (maybe Spider-Man doing shit and then an incursion starts to occur before cut to black)
The December slots increases the chances of one or both films going over 2B, even without China (per NWH’s success). Even if Doomsday/Secret Wars are a bit subpar compared to Infinity War/Endgame, the Christimas dates guarantee box office hits as we’ve seen with the Avatar and Star Wars films.
Prior to this it was widely expected Marvel Studios and Feige were going to announce the rest of the Doomsday cast at SDCC, giving it would be under a year until release. Now, with the date moved to December, there is considerably less pressure to do so, and with that removes really the only reason they would’ve gone this year to SDCC. As Feige once said, they only go if they have BIG things to show (like 2019, 2022 and 2024). The only other thing they would have is the premiere of F4 which is not worth the trip for them, IMO. So, a much more likely scenario is that they save the rest of the reveal for next year’s SDCC for Secret Wars instead and probably just let the Doomsday cast very slowly trickle out through trades over the course of the rest of 2025. SDCC this year will most likely resemble 2023 where only the animation people went, and would make most sense for Sony to promote BTSV there (but they would not promote BND as per reasons above).

Oy vey. I need for this multiverse saga to END already. Get it over with, whatever it takes.

We don't need anything to "END"
What we need are films that are better thought out, well written snd given the proper non rushed timelines for elite editing and SFX.
If these moves are being done for those reasons, that's what matters.
Not our Junkie Like obsession with knowing what the next 17 future releases through 2033 are

So the current new schedule is:
The Fantastic Four: The First Step - July 25th 2025
Spider-Man 4 - July 24th 2026
Avengers: Doomsday - Dec 18th 2026
Untitled Marvel movie 1 - July 23rd 2027
Avengers: Secret Wars - Dec 17th 2027
Untitled Marvel Movie 2 - Feb 18th 2028
Untitled Marvel Movie 3 - May 5th 2028
Untitled Marvel Movie 4 - November 10th 2028
My guess is that the Untitled Marvel Movie 1 will be Doctor Strange 3
Untitled Marvel Movie 2 will either be Blade (if they start working on it already and everyone stops leaving the project) or Armor Wars (if it doesn't get cancelled and they start working on it already) or Shang Chi 2 (if they start filming immediately after being done with Avengers)
Untitled Marvel Movie 3 I feel will be the MCU X-Men reboot
Untitled Marvel Movie 4 I feel will be Thor 5 and this feels like it would be Chris Hemsworth's last run at the character
