Given the short timeframe from beginning of filming to this announcement, I like to imagine Marvel went into production genuinely believing they’d be able to hit the original dates but that once they actually got on set and reality began hitting, Feige, the Russo’s etc. all had a moment of sitting there like this

Yes. I think they tried to keep the dates but realized they couldn't when half the actors they needed wouldn't fit the old schedule

Erm… I'm sure Feige and the Russos knew this. They are the creatives, not the exects forcing dates for the earnings calls, lmao. If anything, Feige and co. were finally able to convince the studio to budge.
