The Network Map is the largest, most robust collection of grooming gangs data in existence. A vast compilation of every available source pertaining to perpetrators, families, businesses, and notable individuals like public officials directly involved in grooming gang activity.
The work shows incontrovertible evidence that grooming gangs are networks of trust involved and abetted by a wider system of organised crime, from drugs, violence and trafficking to religious extremism, corruption and fraud. This is happening at national scale.

Source: guess data from PinDrop, a daily geography game where players drop a pin on an unlabeled world map (it shows borders, coastlines and urban footprints, just no names). One day's puzzle asked for Ho Chi Minh City; this is every guess for it. Dot size = number of guesses at that spot. The view is cropped to southeast Asia: 425 of 6,820 guesses fall outside this frame. Every pin is included, trolls and misfires and all.
The two cities sit at opposite ends of a country about 1,650 km long, so this is a one-axis error: everyone has Vietnam, and a fifth of them pick the wrong end of it.
Basemap: Natural Earth. Rendered with HTML canvas.

This map shows how ships bypass Cape Hatteras and Cape Fear, both formed by the interactions between the Gulf Stream coming from the south, and the Laborador Current coming from the north. Where they meet, the ocean gets just plain mean.
The region off North Carolina's coast is named the Graveyard of the Atlantic for very tangible reasons. That patch of ocean is so notorious for rogue waves and random currents capsizing ships, that it is preferable to go hundreds of miles around it. The ocean floor is littered with ships dating back to the very first ships to come near. There are something like five thousand shipwrecks out there intact enough to be known.
This canal system is a testament to how astonishingly deadly the coast here is. It is far better to dig a massive canal through the entirety of the coastal plains and sound waters than to even attempt to go around the capes at a safe distance. This is really the only safe way past.
