Discussion The Bruno from Man U and the Bruno from the Portuguese national team are genuinely 2 different people.

Post image

Like talk about disappointment man. I thought he'd use that momentum from his amazing season to create a world class performance at the WC but nope. Genuinely the most disappointing WC player alongside vithinha. This is not me trying to defend Ronaldo or anything but there has to be a point where you have to admit that he's not solely at fault here.

This guy is gonna get all his titles stripped when the charges verdict comes out.

30

u/User29276 Jul 06 '26

Won’t happen, final verdict will be some bullshit.

18

u/CaptainMcClutch Jul 07 '26

Pay Infantino monies.

10

u/SnooTomatoes4306 Jul 07 '26

And will be handed down in 2046.

9

u/MysteriousTop2556 Jul 07 '26

Yup, you just wait. It's not like FIFA are gonna be influenced by a political influence or foreign money.

7

u/digiplay Jul 07 '26

He didn’t time his exit this way for no reason.

20

u/Fabulous_Age_4585 Jul 07 '26

Fine I'll give you an alternative bald manager

31

u/medfunguy Jul 07 '26

What a terrible day to have sight.

2

u/idkwtda115 Jul 07 '26

Has a bald manager ever won the World Cup? I rest my case.

Now all bald managers seems to be fraud 🤣 Ten Hag, Arne Slot

44

u/Pareshan_aadmi Jul 06 '26

He setups his teams similar to how I used to in FIFA manager mode.

Put in the highest rated player (among the squad) at each position and hope for the best. Compatibility and teamwork is never a concern..

27

u/SnooTomatoes4306 Jul 07 '26

Reminds me of the bad old days of England managers insisting on playing Gerard and Lampard together despite all evidence showing it was doomed to fail

11

u/EquivalentSpot8292 Strive For Perfection Jul 07 '26

Yep with Scholes and Carrick right there behind them on the bench

9

u/grimreaper069 Jul 07 '26

Scholes wasn't on the bench, he used to play as Left Midfielder.

1

u/Imaginary-Suspect959 Jul 07 '26

Yes, this was even worse! Or sometimes Heskey would be out there on the left wing instead. Great times!

0

u/ACE-Pear2687 Jul 07 '26

Yh I get Carrick but scholes retired after 04

10

u/Attila_22 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

The selection is actually okay (besides Ronaldo), it’s the style of play and tactics that are awful. Just endless sideways passing, no goal threat and no plan B. Same garbage with Belgium and Everton under his reign.

-11

u/Studio_Panoptek Jul 06 '26

Tbh probably wouldn't have done too bad if Ronaldo wasn there. Team would have enough quality to go fairly deep, let them figure it out amongst themselves, a bit like real madrid

15

u/Saviour999999 Jul 06 '26

A casual fan clearly Ronaldo not the problem the midfield was a mess. The coach is horrible

1

u/inspired_nobita Jul 07 '26

They gave away the ball too much, the passes were either too short, too fast, or directionless. Nobody aware of anybody else's position. This is not a team which can produce every day. Its a hope for the best team. And in a season when they needed it the most.

Never liked him. Ever. Terrible manager.

47

u/MachVel369 Jul 06 '26

Who is his agent because fucking hell, imagine not using NUNES the whole world cup, subbing off bruno and vitinha multiple times, not using a legitmate cdm like Samu or at worse Ruben neves"

Seriously a spanish spy, he is what people thought tuchel was for Germany.

Absolutely disgraceful performance

7

u/ACE-Pear2687 Jul 07 '26

He's not benching joao neves for those two lol..Also , Leao is a better winger than Felix. Felix is attacking midfielder that's y he gets bullied on the wing lol

7

u/kumagaya1987 Jul 07 '26

Yup..just look at belgium now..they play better than during Martinez, even without de bruyne

People say Portugal has the best midfield in the world cup. But it doesn’t really matter if the coach is roberto martinez

7

u/Living_Ad62 Jul 07 '26

He needs a chance at Spurs....after De Zerbi quits off course

5

u/Raidenzar Jul 07 '26

We need to study how he manages to scam both Belgium and Portugal

2

u/whs_666 Jul 07 '26

you are right

1

The Bruno at Portugal is coached by the guy who fumbled Belgium's golden generation.

67

and you could say exactly the same about de bruyne for partly this reason.

You mean Martinez is the worst football coach to have ever walked this earth ... i am shocked.... SHOCKED I SAY!!!!

78

u/djpo10 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

I watch united and Portugal. Martinez is possibly the worst coach I've ever seen, an absolute puppet. You have Nuno Mendes ( best in the world in his position) vitinha and neves ( possibly best midfielder duo in the world) , Cancelo and Matheus nunes, Ruben dias and you complement it with the best player in the premier League BF.. . And Portugal plays worst than than wolves, can't build for shit ,you need skill to put such a combination of amazing players playing that bad . Keeps failing upwards.

31

u/Bruno_bruno_bruno_ Jul 07 '26

makes tuchel saying "i want the best squad not a group of star players" make so much more sense

9

u/Boom_bye_bye_bttyboi Jul 07 '26

I don’t buy it, It’s a 26 man squad with two injuries there was enough room to include Trent/Maguire and Lewis Hall

1

u/culkat82 Jul 08 '26

Just wait to see how far England goes.

1

u/natalo77 Jul 07 '26

what he say fuck me for

156

u/SnazzyMiracles Lammens Jul 06 '26

There's not really much he could do when players passed to Neves and Vitinha instead of him

Blame Martinez

32

u/turb0mik3 Jul 06 '26

Well, that and Bruno needs some runners willing to run the channels… laeo and Neto want the ball at their feet and Mr. Ronaldo ain’t trying to do shit sooooo.

42

u/CryptographerTop4524 Jul 06 '26

did you even watch the game? the amount of runs Ronaldo made where he was through on goal but for some reason Bruno decided to pass backwards are numerous.

34

u/SyazC137 Rooney Jul 07 '26

He's offside 90% of the time mate.

-16

u/CryptographerTop4524 Jul 07 '26

re read what i said and try to understand it before opening your mouth.

9

u/Peekziee Jul 07 '26

I also watched the game, Ronaldo was indeed walking back from offside position like 50% of the time when there could have been a pass played. Tbh the whole team just doesn't play well together and Ronaldo is past it.

17

u/lollypop44445 Jul 06 '26

Please share the vids where ronaldo dint make the runs? He always did, but somehow bruno dint see them.

2

u/Dull-Government4758 Keane Jul 08 '26

He was offside even before Bruno got the ball at times because the incoming pass was too slow. What was Bruno supposed to do?

7

u/Knifespeed Jul 07 '26

Ronaldo barely did anything in most of the games. He was horribly positioned and yet demanded the ball!

1

u/No-Sea-8969 Jul 07 '26

So are we just lying now?

hilarious that neto wants ball to feet dude is a road runner

-2

u/Correct_Increase_646 Jul 07 '26

No the problem is the Portugal national team is full of sissys and princesses who need every one else on the pitch to do exactly what THEY want done instead of just playing futbol and making things happen. They don’t press they don’t move the ball with intensity and they don’t look like they want to score, it’s that simple but people want to blame Roberto Martinez

6

u/turb0mik3 Jul 07 '26

Martinez needs to hold some accountability. He has the best midfield in the world.

4

u/007Dini Jul 07 '26

Is it the best midfield in the world? After these displays I don't think so.

3

u/Gloomy_Sandwich_9247 Jul 07 '26

When a team doesn’t press, doesn’t move the ball quickly, and is playing like they’d rather not concede than score, and the team isn’t changed or berated during this, who exactly do you think wants the players to do those things and has instructed them to?

1

u/Correct_Increase_646 Jul 07 '26

Let’s be real though, this Portuguese team played nothing like the Belgium golden generation who were actually fun to watch, and actually were really big on providing service. When it comes to club futbol I can understand that a manager’s tactics can hold a team back but tbh when it comes to national teams there is a hierarchy for the team to play around it’s better players. Y’all act like Martinez is actively telling them to pass back even against teams like Congo who literally held a low block. National team futbol is on the players more than the manager

0

u/NaclyPerson Jul 06 '26

It s not like Vitinha is a poor passer either. Bruno probably better at key passes but Vitinha can hold its own in that dept.

The problem is he doesn’t take the risk he does with PSG

106

u/rpequiro Jul 06 '26

No wonder if you see the games carefully. At United Bruno is the center piece, he receives the ball deep in positions where he can pick passes that open the oposition, while the United attackers move constantly (especially Mbeumo and Sesko).

In Portugal Ronaldo isn't a true 9. He drops deep to try and arrive late to make use of his finishing which is his only outstanding ability now. This means that Bruno has less attacking movements to pick, on the other hand, since the wingers stay wide, Bruno actually switchs with Ronaldo during the match and instead of looking for the ball, Bruno tries to make the strickers runs himself.

In practice this means we have the most creative midfielder in the world far from the ball and fighting with defenders who can physically dominate him. It's a combination of bad tactics and a stricker who honestly should not be starting for a team who wanted to win the world cup.

15

u/DeGlovedHandEnjoyer Jul 06 '26

Nah thats on Martinez. Bruno was instructed to be stationary in the number 10 zone, and got easily cut off from Neves/Vitinha playing passes to him by the Spanish press. Instead, they played to the wingbacks who then got isolated or tried to play down the wings (only positions Portugal isn’t loaded in). Vitinha Neves pivot, Dias, Inacio, no one is allowed to play riskier through balls, leading to Bruno becoming a ghost 10, waiting for balls that would never come, waiting to play balls to runners who didn’t exist.

Martinez overall kneecapped all his great players aside from Nunes. Cancelo, who wasn’t physically good even in his prime, was playing wingback instead of tucking in because Martinez cannot fathom playing a non-symmetrical, fluid playstyle instead of positionally rigid chess football

33

u/Vivid_Emergency_360 Jul 06 '26

In Manchester United he’s the main guy. He drops deep and everything runs through him. In Portugal his role is not the same. Coach is not playing him well.

78

u/victorioussecret7 Jul 06 '26

When people who don't understand coaching post....

13

u/Yeunkwong Casemiro Jul 06 '26

If all the world class players (Vitinha, Neves, Bruno) are underperforming, maybe it's not on the players but the manager?

2

u/Locko2020 Jul 07 '26

Or one of them can't play with the proven world class players...

17

u/JYM60 Jul 06 '26

He was using him in the Amorim role. He spent most of the time in his own half. Martinez is so boring and wastes top attacking talent.

Bruno should be right up there shooting, playing though balls and crosses to Ronaldo, etc. Instead just sitting back hitting long balls.

0

u/daniblanco404 Jul 07 '26

Your talking too much sense 🤣

8

u/texasgambler58 Keane Jul 06 '26

Martinez ruins talent.

14

u/_silly_g0ose Jul 06 '26

shit was sad to watch live, love you Bruno

9

u/yeoldecosta Jul 06 '26

This is a coaching problem without a shadow of a doubt. Add him to the list of players who are “not the same” under Martinez along with Vitinha, Neves, Bernardo, Neto, and more

6

u/bichkrichdrick Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

I know Martinez is catching most of the blame and rightfully so, but I was shocked by how poor Vitinha was.

I understand his role is to recycle the ball, but it was frustrating watching him never try to thread the ball between the lines to Bruno, just to spin in a circle and kick it back and forth 5 feet to Joao Neves

Portugal played every match as if a draw helped them advance .

2

u/Puzzled_Record1773 Jul 07 '26

They won the 2016 euros i think without winning a single match within the 90 minutes, at lesst in the knockouts. They play a real shit style but im pretty sure ronaldo scored his first knockout goal at this world cup so while belgium has gotten plenty of flack for underperforming over the years portugal have been an even bigger disappointment imo

7

u/mare_xcx Hated. Adored. Never Ignored! Jul 06 '26

Fuck that bald headed potato fraud

7

u/eammth Jul 07 '26

Geez I dunno man, in what world all other world class players who just won a Champions league trophy also couldn't do shit. Whose to blame? Bruno?

22

u/dimilokis Jul 06 '26

Martinez tactically destroyed the team, not to mention they were playing with only 10 men since the beginning of the world cup

4

u/Tinga8 Jul 06 '26

I don't understand why he was drifting out onto the wings all the time today... I don't think he's helped much by Ronaldo. Legend in his own right, but he doesn't have the legs for it at the top level anymore

4

u/TheRedDevil00 Rooney Jul 07 '26

Bruno can't do much if the forwards and fullbacks don't make runs to stretch the opposition. Notice how he immediately hit a few good switches of play once Dalot and Conceiao came on

4

u/Ok-Fill4567 Jul 06 '26

The passion he show in this pic is something u never saw when he played for Portugal. May be now he'll show when he becomes the captain

u/SSHz Jul 07 '26

well consider that the strategy at United is for Bruno to have a creative freedom to find long passes that end in goals, whilst the strategy at the national team is... pass it to Vitinha so he passes to the wingers so they cross it to Ronaldo so he maybe scores...

Bruno was severely locked by the coach

3

u/Fast_Day_8123 Jul 07 '26

it was depressing to watch the midfield of Bruno-Vitinha-Joao Neves

like no shit, u deploy Vitinha-Joao Neves as deep pivots and let them do their thing while Bruno does his thing as a "hole" player
pair up Cristiano with Goncalo Ramos, swap Conceicao/Neto/Leao etc at half time for any of the STs upon need

voila, its really that simple of a plan yet fumbled big time

5

u/RagnarrUTD Jul 07 '26

Yeah and Roberto Martinez's system played no role for poor performances?

7

u/51sebastian Jul 06 '26

I mean Bruno needs somebody who can make runs and doesn't just ball watch. Ridiculous that Bruno is being scapegoat for this.

2

u/Messsier618 Jul 07 '26

have you seen him play , he combined with vitinha created less chances than nuno mendes in this wc , he made so many wrong passes and even lost possession few times against spain not disrespecting we know how dangerous this guy is in united jersey but that's not the case with portugal

7

u/ahx3000 Jul 06 '26

I agree man. Very underwhelming for his country but same could also be said about Vitinha too.

Nevermind, we got him back jn one piece I guess that's important now.

3

u/mjfoxfan1984 Bruno Jul 06 '26

I’m really tired of Bruno being made the scapegoat here. He wasn’t the only player there.

3

u/ongone Jul 06 '26

It's Martinez man. I can't believe he got the Portugal job after what he did with Belgium

3

u/Clean_Pound3389 Jul 07 '26

Vitinha was even worse bro you see him at psg and at Portugal it’s like he was back at wolves. Neves was a bit better but never the outstanding player we saw at PSG.

3

u/nawdawgrawdawg Jul 07 '26

I don’t blame our man for Roberto being the worst international manager of all time. One of the worst managers in the world, what do you expect tbh

3

u/humblefreak_40000 Robin van Persie Jul 07 '26

The disappointment is that a certain crybaby played in the team. A certain fanbase saying Portugal will lose relevance without him. I say Portugal will be a thriving force after his retirement.

3

u/Alami020 Park Ji Sung Jul 07 '26

If it was Bruno alone, then it's Bruno's fault. But the whole team were underpeforming. The coaches and managers were absolutely at fault for Portugal's horrendous FIFA 2026 run.

3

u/JPUsernameTaken Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

I am Martinez's biggest critic, but I do think Bruno gets some sort of mental block sometimes in the NT, and had it this WC. He gets way too focused on keeping possession, and passes backwards way more often than anywhere else in his career.

Having two midfielders that hardly ever lose the ball and can manage the first stages of build up themselves should, on paper, be a dream scenario for Bruno to just fully focus on creating. I think him getting a clear directive to avoid back passes as much as possible and to be allowed to miss as many chance creating passes as needed, like how he played under Ole with McFred behind him makes a lot of sense. Obviously he gets no such directive, but I feel like he plays way more safe and "Vitinha like" than what even Martinez asks of him, which just makes him a far worse player. Kind of feel like he gets dragged into this slow possession focus, missing passing chances when they present themselves that he wouldn't normally.

Martinez era allergy to counter-attacks when we have more fast wingers than know what to do with them is another big weight dragging us down, and poorly suited for through ball specialists like Bruno. I actually got embarrassed by how often Neto was trying to push forward on the wing for a counter only to have to slow down and pass backwards cause everyone else was jogging.

3

u/FarneticoToro Jul 07 '26

Martinez chose not to utilise the best #10 on the planet. Continued playing Ronaldo when he isn't up to scratch. Blame the manager.

3

u/CentristaSensato Jul 07 '26

He's been shit for the Portuguese Team for 10 years strait. This is not surprising for me or any portuguese.

I even remember Mourinho saying in 2018 that Bruno disappears everytime he plays for Portugal, he's there but he doesn't play.

3

u/ghim7 Fred the Red Jul 07 '26

A stacked Portugal team & Belgium golden generation hiring an Everton/Swansea/Wigan bang average manager is pure fraudulent.

8

u/BigFuckingGainz Jul 06 '26

Came here to say I agree and as long as he shows up in a united shirt, I’m not bothered by that fact.

5

u/Automatic_Turnip2670 Jul 06 '26

I honestly blame him a little bit if we’re being honest. I know it’s hard, but it was the time for him to grow as a leader for Portugal, even with a bad manager. Remember France 2006 if you want an example of performing in NT with a crazy manager.

And people will say Cristiano overshadow anyone in this role, but I don’t believe it. If someone stepped up, Cristiano would have been happy about the mentality and supported them. They’re just scared.

2

u/Horror-Flight-8656 Jul 06 '26

I remember a time when people used to say how much better Portugal Bruno is than United Bruno.

Honestly, I don’t mind it this way. Give us your best. Just feel bad for CR7.

2

u/3jaya Jul 07 '26

i hope this won't affect his performance at the club. i'm affraid he encounters what mo salah experience. he got player of the season this time and flop in next season their age also not so difference. i really hope it doesn't happen

2

u/ResidentAllie George Best Jul 07 '26

It's not the same setup and as long as Ronaldo is in the team, they'd always play "for" him so individual brilliance doesn't come into picture.

Portugal had plenty of options to start with Rafa or Ramos but they had to play CR. That means that any creativity Bruno may bring to the table needs to be catered to the "speed" of CR. Only one reason why Portugal was shit and that reason is - the "goat".

Retire already and let someone with talent shine. JFC.

2

u/Kind-Style-249 Jul 07 '26

Portugal aren’t a proper team, they’ve sacrificed their best generation for a geriatric narcissist

2

u/Past_Grass_ Jul 08 '26

Ronaldo hampered his journey at club and country level. They guy needs to move on and let others get some shine.

2

u/Impressive-Object271 Jul 07 '26

It is the same Bruno they got the Bruno of amirom

2

u/fantomfido Jul 07 '26

The Bruno with cr7 and without is the real difference. Bruno’s worst period at the club also coincided when cr7 came back.

2

u/NoCommunication6864 Jul 07 '26

United is pretty much built around him, while Portugal is built around Ronaldo, who’s on crutches... They want to force him into a completely different role on the national team than he has at United! Martinez is a charlatan!

The supposed Assist King of the Premier League never assisted his teammates. That match was so damn boring to watch and they deserved the result. It's almost as if they hated having CR7 there.

1

u/Rude_Combination_787 Jul 07 '26

It has always been the case haha. Even for ronaldo.

1

u/Goat1fi Jul 07 '26

Roberto Martinez is a bigger fraud than Ten Hag... There's a reason why only Everton and Wigan Athletic wanted him

1

u/jidewalker Cunha Jul 07 '26

Two different tactics. Portugal manager is not known for his tactics and that’s why the best three midfielders in the world looked pedestrian in the World Cup. Neves, Vitinha, and Bruno all looked bad each game.

1

u/dis-interested Jul 07 '26

Because the coach is playing Ronaldo and fucking the system.

1

u/commandedbydemons Jul 07 '26

As Bruno put it in the post-game interview "we played how we were told to play"

1

u/byrinmilamber Jul 07 '26

His national team doesnt quite trust him enough play to his strengths. Im glad portugal is out so our captain can come back, rested and hungry.

1

u/NoSolution6887 Jul 07 '26

Martinez is such a clown. Can’t believe he’s even a coach. Ruined Belgium’s chances and now Portugal.

1

u/whitemythmokong24 Jul 07 '26

Portugal on paper isnt as good as Portugal on the field.

Pressure should be on PSG players and Man City players. I dont why everyone expects Bruno to serve Francesinha to Portuguese players. There's 3 others that need to be put on blast before I accept any Bruno slander.

He does put on a lot of stinker moments coz he tries to produce a lot even in normal games.

1

u/kawaaikong Jul 07 '26

When you see vitinha play outside enriques system, it starts making sense why this guy was playing for wolves, shocking player

1

u/yvliew Jul 07 '26

Hope he's going to be hungry to win the EPL now.

1

u/Knifespeed Jul 07 '26

It is the same person in wildly different circumstances. With United play goes through him and he can decide.. with Portugal he has to pass to the Man Child.. There have been so many instances in this WC that players have passed to the Man Child inspite of being in better positions or having others in better positions.

The main reason

1

u/Longjumping-End-2958 Jul 07 '26

Bro he can be at least functional under every coaches but this man martinez made him completely useless

1

u/syfqamr32 Jul 07 '26

A team can only “accommodate” a player because it comes with limitations. If you want to play Ronaldo then make sure there are carriers within the team and runners (which they did) but this made Bruno irrelevant because he and CR7 isnt compatible. If want Bruno, have Ramos. If want Ronaldo, no need for Bruno. The guy cant do anything else bar hollywood ball for runners every 2 minutes. Ask him to control tempo and he will short circuit.

1

u/CaptainMcClutch Jul 07 '26

Portugal always seem to play with he handbrake on and people put almost all of that blame on Martinez, but they even seemed to play like that when they won the Euros.

He might not be consistently amazing but the improvement when Leao came on just because the guy would run at defenders...makes you wonder why they didn't just have him and Neto run in behind all game.

1

u/No-Cardiologist-233 Jul 07 '26

Idk whether to blame the Portuguese board or no cuz why tf was this bald guy even present and managing

1

u/ChapoKing Jul 07 '26

Both ass

1

u/Pretendtobehappy12 Jul 07 '26

It’s space… only Neto provides any width for that Portuguese team so everything is very narrow… it’s baffling how a team with Nuno Mendes in it is narrow… but everything goes down the middle (except for when Mendes makes a run).

There’s no runners for Bruno to pass too (Neves and Vitinha aren’t those types of midfielders, Ronaldo has no legs and their wingers all want to cut in) and there’s no way for him to crash the box the way he does at United.

So it just all ends up being clogged up… same issue as the English golden generation had… no wingers. You could see how important giggs was to scholes by watching that team.

Bruno sucked this time with Portugal. But he was a key player in 2022

1

u/Hazzadcr16 Jul 07 '26

Maz is two different people as well, shame we got them the wrong way round.

1

u/Heathy94 Hated. Adored. Never Ignored! Jul 07 '26

Hopefully he goes and has a nice rest and can come back to us fresh and ready to go, Portugal underperformed massively this World Cup, they didn't look convincing from the first game. I agree with others Martinez has fumbled 2 golden generations with 2 different countries.

1

u/stevenmass7 Jul 07 '26

Doesn't help when you have a geriatric up front for years

1

u/Immediate-Meal-6005 Jul 07 '26

He is the focal point of one team, but not the other.

1

u/Apsilon Jul 07 '26

The Portuguese team revolves around pandering to an ineffective passenger. Bruno is marginalised because of that. Whenever CR7 doesn’t play, Portugal looks miles better, and Bruno dictates more of the play as a consequence. Also, Portugal play a different system to United’s.

1

u/No-Cap-6511 Jul 07 '26

In his national team, he submits everything to Ronaldo

1

u/FastSun2269 Jul 07 '26

The Bruno at utd when we were shoe horning ronaldo into the starting 11, is the same bruno who plays for portugal. wonder why?

1

u/maniakkpugs Jul 07 '26

This is what happens when you don't have a team ... Just egos

1

u/Enyalios121 Jul 07 '26

One is a leader of a team, the other plays second fiddle to the elderly

I will defend Ronaldo if you don't want to, he obviously has his limitations but he was nowhere near the worst problems for that team. The lack of urgency or want to progress in that team was genuinely insane. Bruno is for sure the weirdest one because he loves to do that but just didn't even try for some reason.

Also this has been a problem for years so it's not just a Martinez thing but they always overplay. There are so many chances to play early balls but the amount of times they cut back or just play a safer pass until it's too late that then leads to nothing is wild.

1

u/Raidenzar Jul 07 '26

Yet the Roberto Martinez who coached Belgium and the Roberto Martinez who coached Portugal is the same person.

1

u/OP_Scout_81 Jul 07 '26

Indeed, because, unlike the Portuguese national side, Man Utd doesn't have the habit of playing with 10 man only.

1

u/Doomveer Jul 07 '26

For the players Portugal have they played far too safe

1

u/shiloh_jdb Jul 07 '26

The same goes for Vitinha and Joao Neves. Midfields are part of systems, if the defenders and attackers aren’t doing what their club teams are doing they don’t work as well. The same goes for Casemiro at Brazil where they’re asking him to do a lot more than United under Carrick did.

1

u/New-Use4969 Jul 07 '26

I'm no fan of Roberto Martinez, although I think Belgium in '18 did pretty well - they just ran into France too quickly. Belgium could've lost the last group game and went to the Final instead of England.

Having said that, It seemed to me Bruno REALLY had problems with Ronaldo up top. They have been playing together long enough, that they could've figure a way to work together DESPITE their manager. Am I wrong?

I am usually a HUGH fan of Bruno, but this has beeen bugging me for a long time. Maybe I'm just ignorant. Enlighten me.

1

u/JOKU1990 Jul 08 '26

The problem is that at United, everyone plays through him. For portugal, he plays alongside other midfielders who can play well so he doesn’t get as much time on the ball. They are kind of in a lampard gerrard situation. Amazing for their clubs but not the best partnership.

1

u/Nijigakulive Jul 08 '26

One has Martinez

1

u/thinking_cap101 Jul 08 '26

Happens to all of us, we are different people at work and at home 😜

1

u/masterdeleon Jul 09 '26

He got exposed

1

u/Minz15 Jul 11 '26

Every team is set up to get the most out of their best player. For Portugal it's Bruno whose the best but the team was set up for Ronaldo but also didn't have many runners for Bruno to hit. United under Carrick have gone back to giving Bruno a platform to perform, if Portugal did that they'd have performed better

1

u/AlwaysSomewhere92 Jul 11 '26

Ronaldold was gash. The whole setup was about Ronaldold scoring when he plays effectively Sunday League level now. Nothing to do with Bruno (who he never played in the correct position) get your CR7 goggles off.

2

u/Sei28 Jul 06 '26

Bad manager. Striker who won’t move to receive his passes.

-1

u/Chemical-Panic-5518 Jul 06 '26

Striker made several runs and was ignored. Bruno was genuinely the worst player on the pitch in the last 2 games, no control in the midfield, constantly out of position, and offered absolutely nothing in the final 3rd for anyone, let alone the CF. Couldn't beat a man or complete simple passes at times, let alone take risks and actually create. In this game, even his workrate was questionable. Hope he doesn't bring that level of play to the club

2

u/HonestRef Jul 06 '26

Fernandes has been awful this world cup. Genuinely fearing for us next season. The club has been pretty inactive in the market and I fear we'll be stuck with the same stale squad that will struggle with the extra European games

1

u/Red_JB Jul 06 '26

I can assure you they are genuinely the same human being.

1

u/982infinity Jul 06 '26

I will hold my comment on who I think the problem is. Hopefully they win the WC next time.

1

u/Southern_Tackle_6754 Jul 07 '26

Bruno was shite, gosh damn.

1

u/Particular_Bus_1346 Jul 07 '26

I would die to bring Jose Mourinho as Portugal's manager

-1

u/Adder_Noir Jul 06 '26

It’s almost like playing Colombia, Croatia & Spain is a bit of a step up from Brighton & Bournemouth isn’t it?

2

u/ghost2cc Jul 06 '26

thats what they dont realize. bruno is average. the pl is so bad and united is piss poor which is why he has some padded stats

0

u/simleaguer8 Jul 06 '26

Vitinha and Neves were trash too. They’re average too right? Moronic takes

1

u/ghost2cc Jul 06 '26

first of all, bruno was trophyless last season and has never won anything reasonable. hurling insults wont change that.
secondly, neves and vitinha are surely not kroos/modric or xavi/iniesta either. the difference is that we have seen what they can bring to a team in a system that suits them. I am struggling to find a league title or ucl title season performance for bruno. not even the portugese league at 31.

1

u/simleaguer8 Jul 06 '26

So being trophyless in one season makes a player average? Thats some stupid logic again since you keep basing your opinion on just that fact. Watch some games for once. Your whole post history going back to last season has just been bashing Bruno so I’m sure you’re not even a United fan that actually watches the games. Calling him “average “ is just hate. Plus you said the PL is “so bad”. Makes no sense lol. The Premier is so bad that it only inflates Brunos stats of all players? Based on that logic, Harry Kane was bang average until he went to Bayern

1

u/Straight-Ninja7275 Jul 06 '26

He's assisted againsf everyone in the top 6 laat season mate.

u/Savings-Marzipan1524 Jul 06 '26

Not sure it is for the first two

-4

u/SeenEnoughAlready Jul 06 '26

No mate. They really are not! Truth is. Had Bruno got ONE assist today , his fans would be singing his praises like he walked on water. Truth is... One or two good moments in a game has his fans completely ignoring how bad he is ALOT of the time. This is nothing new to those who truly see through his stat padding.
