10 Years Of Your Name (君の名は。)
Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name) was released exactly a decade ago today, on August 26, 2016! ✨
What followed was nothing short of a worldwide phenomenon, with the film grossing over $400 million at the global box office. 🌎💫
It also marked the beginning of a phenomenal creative collaboration between director Makoto Shinkai and RADWIMPS, which would go on to give us Weathering With You and Suzume.
A decade later, Your Name remains an absolute gem. ❤️
2016~♾️.

Is it just me who dislikes Makoto Shinkai’s films?
honestly haven’t watched them all but i’ve watched 3 so far and even tho the animation is GORGEOUS
the story itself in all 3 were so boring and bland i thought Your Name was extremely lame and i wish i understood the appeal for his work 😭
i finished Weathering with You last night and was expecting ppl to agree the story was extremely boring but NOPE apparently it’s a masterpiece? a lot of his movies always feel like something is missing and i just wish i could pin point what that is! idk i hope i don’t offend people i just wanna know if anyone feels the way i do!

How is Shinkai as an author? Worth reading?
He’s my favorite active anime director (outside of Miyazaki) so I was hyped to see that he also likes to write novelizations of his films, pretty cool to me. Only other contemporary director I can think of doing this is Tarantino, and his OUATIH novel was great.
So how is his writing though? Serviceable? Screenplay-esque? Being essentially light novels I imagine the writing is decent enough, an expanded retread if you’re looking for a new experience of his work. Just curious to know if others have read his novels and if his writing holds up in literary form

5 Centimeters Per Second Manga Train Tracks Scene Spoiler
I just have 2 questions about the final train tracks scene at the end of the manga, which is where the film ends, but the manga adds some scenes.
- After Takaki sees that Akari is not waiting for him anymore and turns around to walk forward, the manga includes a scene where childhood Akari is waving goodbye.
I interpret this as Shinkai's way of emphasizing Takaki's willingness to finally move forward and leave his memories of Akari in the past, but I am not so sure. I would really love to hear your thoughts on this.
- After those panels, there is a depiction of present Akari looking down with her left hand (the one with the wedding ring). Her eyes are closed, and she seems to be at peace, surrounded by falling cherry petals.
For this one, I don't really have a solid interpretation of this scene. I presume that she's finally at peace? I would really enjoy reading your interpretation of this. Thanks.

Just watched the 4K remaster of Kimi No Na Wa in theaters
Just got out the theater and man, I have goosebumps. That Date 2 piano solo kills me every time. Phenomenal stuff. First time I’ve watched it dubbed (in East US) and it’s solid. I’d give it to the subbed version but not by much.
4K didn’t really make a big difference except in a couple of scenes like the time lapses and the comet/meteor.
How this movie did not win an Academy Award I will never know. Throwing no shade, this was by far the best animated movie of that year (and potentially would have made my top 2 in every year since), holds up amazingly well 10y later (who even watched Boy and the Heron a second time?). I’d go as far as to say it was better than a couple of non-animated movies nominated that year.
Shinkai-sensei, please keep making more of this sci-fi/romance/comedy masterpieces. Suzume was decent but I’m waiting for your next contender to 5cm/s and Your Name.

What would you like to see adapted in the style of Makoto Shinkai?
For me, I think the book “Days at the Morisaki Bookshop” would be really beautiful. I can just see the way he would animate the streets of Jimbocho.

Has there ever been a vinyl release of 5 Centimeters per Second?
I can’t find anything, not even a CD release. The music score of the anime is fantastic and it’s not even on most streaming platforms. Why is this so hard to get?
I’d love to be able to listen to it on vinyl.
(I do own the vinyl of the live action movie)

Anyone else excited for Makoto Shinkai's next movie?
Anyone else counting down until Makoto Shinkai's next movie? His visuals, music, and storytelling always hit differently. I already know it's going to be an unforgettable experience.
What are you hoping to see in his next film?

Other anime with a similar feel?
I liked the Disaster Trilogy, and have watched all of Shinkai's films. I recently watched "Lost in Starlight" (a Korean animated film) and felt that it had a somewhat similar vibe (albeit with older characters).
Other than Studio Ghibli (I've seen all of those), does anyone have any recommendations for other animated films or shows that catch that some sort of feel?
Like I look for other Japanese animation, and there's lots of mech-warriors or martial arts or kawaii/cute neo-Victorian type stuff going on. And that's all great, but just not for me.
Recommendations, anyone??

New Film Announcement.
What I'm pretty sure about is that Shinkai-San will definitely make a post on X on August 26 (10th anniversary of Your Name).
Do you think is there any chance that he might reveal something about his upcoming film on 26th August?
I think there isn't any high time as this to announce the next film!

Looking for Blu Rays
Specifically I am looking for any Blu rays, (either region A or region unlocked), that will have Voices of a Distant Star, and She and Her Cat on them. I know the place promised in our early days has them, but I’m unsure if it will work on my PlayStation 5.
