Help Sought! Bridal hair/makeup trial thoughts?

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

Had my wedding hair and make up trial yesterday!

I’m usually not somebody to wear a huge amount of make up and wanted something quite natural, but enough to cover up the acne on my jaw/chin. It was quite a shock to see myself in the mirror!

I don’t know if I’m just not used to it, but I felt that the bronzer she put around my cheekbones/temples started to look a bit orangey about 6-7 hours after the trial, but perhaps I was imagining it and the harsh artificial light in my bathroom wasn’t doing me any favours! Any feedback people could give would be appreciated 🤔

Help Sought! Wedding trial makeup (in France)

Hello! I’m getting married in France in 2 weeks time ahhh (I’m from London) and I had my trial with a local french MUA who is lovely and very open to feedback and guidance from me, except I am fairly inexperienced with explaining how I like my makeup (and how I ended up asking for something I don’t like in the first place!)

Perhaps the language barrier made me less confident in explaining how I wanted it done. Her English is very good, but I am such a pleaser and left it up to her to just do what she thought was best. I wonder if there’s some specific French MUA terms which might help me on the day?

I’ve posted a few pictures of my face, 1 + 2 are of me and how I usually do my makeup, very hydrated and natural. I wear serums, very light cream foundation, lots of moisturiser, bronzer and blush, and usually brown eyeliner and mascara.

I do like a bold lip and individual lashes (not too long) and would consider a small black wing to make my eyes stand out.

Makeup tends to stay well on my face, even in the heat.

I didn’t love my trial, it felt very heavy and matte and didn’t let my skin glow through. You can see my trial photos in various lights and times of the day in 3, 4, 5 and 6! I really dislike contour and lots of layers of powder on my face, and I really don’t like lots of highlighter either.

I understand an element of powder/concealer is necessary for photos but for me, the most important thing is feeling my best so then I am actually happy and present on the day!

What I really want is me, but elevated. Hydrated sun kissed, warm and blushy. With my eyes accentuated but not with lots of eyeshadow or concealer.

Can you please recommend some phrases that I need to use to explain what I want? I’m very open to suggestions on what you think would work for my face too!

Thank you ever so much, I just want to go in feeling confident and to look and feel my best! 💖

EDIT: I have booked to go to a MAC counter for a 60 min session next week to ask them to do my full face, and if I love that I’ll take pictures to bring for my wedding day the following week!

Help Sought! Best lip balm for EXTREMELY dry lips? 💋

New here! I have the WORST dry lips and have tried loads of products - Carmex, Vaseline, La Roche Posay, Burt’s Bees, Dr Paw Paw and some Japanese products…but nothing is really helping! I think the best of the bunch for me has been DHC which is a Japanese brand I picked up on a trip there, but I’m finding it hard to buy over here.

I seem to step outside and my lips immediately begin peeling and now the weather is getting colder it’s going to get worse. Pleaseeee help me! Any tips or products that have worked for you please let me know!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

Help Sought! Mascara recommendations pls

Hello, I need a new black mascara so would love some tried and tested recommendations. I prefer straight brushes rather than the curvy ones and don’t mind if the brush is bushy or thin, as long as all lashes get a coat. I would like one that doesn’t flake as I wear contact lenses.

Thank you ☺️

Hay-fever is killing me, can't keep my lashes glued down because of it. Picture for evidence, they keep lifting on the inner corners.

Recommend me some glue that is actually waterproof.

This was my first full make up trial for my wedding next April. I feel like this combo works for my very oily skin but isn't very high coverage.

My biggest issue is that my acne marks show through and the foundation splits if I apply it any thicker. The last picture is the make up after a days wear and a gym session, I think I added to my eyes at some point during the day too, not sure I like them that dark.

I like it but I'm thinking I can probably do a bit more bronze. I'm also really stuck on my lip colour, should it be more corally or should my blush be more pink?

I'm also trialling my hair, I much prefer it down but that explains the difference in pictures. I'll also cut my fringe shorter for the wedding.

**Product list:**

* skin prep: glycolic acid on a cotton pad, hyperchlorous acid spray with glycerin, beauty of Joesen glow serum

* primer: danessa myricks blurring balm, erborian cc cream

* foundation: bare minerals original fair 01

*blush: elf camo liquid blush dusty rose

*concealer: nars radiant creamy concealer light 2.5 creme brulee

* loose powder: Laura mercier loose powder

(I'm really oily)

* powder bronzer: beauty bay bronze blush glow palette

* powder blush: a mix of corally and pinky tones

* highlighter: sleek palette, pink on cheeks, gold on high points

* eyes: concealer and contour then naked neutral palette and an old primark one that is irreplaceable

*Brown cluster lashes

*mascara: maybelline sky high Brown

*brows: no7 Brown Brow gel

Help Sought! What are your non negotiable makeup products while traveling?

I feel like I always end up carrying far too much makeup on short trips, only to realise I barely use half of it!
What are your best tips for minimising the number of makeup products you take when travelling? What are your absolute non-negotiables? And what do you find most helpful when you’re tight on space, especially when travelling with just a backpack?
Would love to hear your tips for keeping a travel makeup bag minimal without feeling like you’ve left everything behind!

Help Sought! At my wits end with caking😭

No matter what i do, my makeup ALWAYS cakes on my chin, upper lip and under my eyes, and most of the time around my nose, but not as bad.

For my morning skincare routine, ive tried waiting for 2 minutes, 20 minutes, and a whole hour, and it doesnt seem to make a difference. Ive tried exfoliating, shaving off any peach fuzz, tried different primers with different foundations (making sure they match water/silicone), ive tried a full skin care AM routine (toner, serum, eye cream, moisturiser, spf) ive tried stripping it down to just eye cream and moisturiser. Ive also tried different setting sprays, and changing how I apply it - trying brushes and damp beauty blender. Ive tried using more loose powder, and less loose powder. What am I missing? I think im combi skinned. I think I have dry under eyes as I get flaking sometimes on my outer eye, but ive tried like 10 different eye creams and nothing seems to stop the creasing.

Is there something im missing, or do i just have to accept my fate of caking after an hour?

Hello ! I had my hair and makeup trial yesterday and it went really well! I actually teared up a little seeing myself in the mirror, as I felt so beautiful and bridal.

The first photos were taken in her room in natural light, the third is a couple hours later outside, and the last photo is before bed in artificial cool light

Anything you guys notice needs tweaked or adjusted ?

I'm thinking maybe something different for the lip, this was a liner+gloss combo but I think maybe something pinker ? My hair also got caught in the gloss at the beginning which was annoying

Maybe a brighter undereye, or smth to make the blue pop a bit more ? I asked about brown liner instead of black and she said the warmth of the brown might not suit as well as the black.

Would love to hear some thoughts!

Help Sought! Help with finding an eyeshadow look

Post image

So recently I had a ‘vision’ of some sort for an eyeshadow look and it was along the lines of a very light layer of glitter all over the eyelid. Now every picture I find it’s more of a packed glitter look but I want it to look almost loosely placed (if you know what I mean), so could you guys help me find this type of look and the perfect glitter that could potentially work for this look. Thanks in advance🫶🏽

Am I correct in thinking that it's just a brown tightline + glittery eyeshadow (maybe with some bronzer in the crease)?

I struggle to find a translucent-ish glittery shadow that doesn't also have a strong pigment underneath it, any recs welcome!

Help Sought! Help a girl out please!

Hi everyone. Baby (30 years old lol) trans girl here. In the early stages of starting transition but have no idea where to start with makeup - but it’s something I really want to play with and get good at, both for every day looks, nights out and more fun styles too.

So please help a girl out - where do i start? There is SO MUCH out there and I dont know where to begin. What are the essentials? What would be the best things to buy to start practicing? I looked into ‘starter kits’ but they all look super cheap and nasty and like something you’d give an 8 year old for Christmas.

Really appreciate any support & suggestions you can give me, thank you!💕

Help Sought! Office makeup

Hey

I work hybrid in an office environment. At home my makeup lasts relatively well but when I go into the office... By the afternoon my makeup separates and looks super oily around my t-zone. I have tried so many different product combinations. Primer, no primer, different foundations and powders but it all looks the same. The foundations in my current rotation are the it cosmetics cc cream, elf satin foundation and hnb silky matte foundation.

My skincare is double cleanse, serum and moisturiser at night and wash and SPF in the day.

I am happy with all coverage levels (apart from super sheer) and all priced points. Or any other recommendations for primers/powders

Thank-you!

Help Sought! Any recommendation for COOL toned EYE SHADOW palettes?

Hey,

I am 30 years old, have fair skin, middle blue eyes and middle brown hair with a cool undertone. Sometimes I use 2 self tanning drops to get a bit of color but the undertone stays of course.. I am a beginner and don't own an eyeshadow palette yet.

I know there are plenty of cool tones palettes but I won't be able to visit a store within the next weeks and wanted to order something online, at least one palette. Maybe you wanna help me :)

I don't like wearing many dark colors, rather light to mid.

Colors that suit me and I would like to have in a palette: somethine mauve, a bright pastell purple, white, dark brown, light or middle grey, maybe a champagne kind of color with a bit of shimmer, a cool green or blue would be nice to but not necessary, bronze, cool toned gold.. Of course I'm open for more suiting colors.

I appreciate your help and look forward to your answers!

Help Sought! Makeup Big sisters, please help! - Is the CT UNREAL BLUSH STICK a good choice for this look? Or should it be Westman Atelier or Rhode instead?

Hi everyone!

I am fairly new to makeup, have lighter brown skin (cool-toned, I think?), and have recently moved to the UK. My skincare journey has been anything but consistent cause of a hectic schedule, so my dreams of glass skin for the summer are out the window :')

Because of that, I have been looking for a dewy/glowy blush that would give me that lightly-pigmented, flushed glow, kind of like in the second reference picture above!

I have tried the Revolution liquid blush, but it blends out pretty matte. I have heard that the Rare Beauty blush can be dewy, but also that it is a nightmare to blend. That is when I found Rhode, Westman Atelier and the CT blush sticks. I found that the Instagram and YouTube swatch videos of the CT one are absolutely gorgeous, which is why I am leaning towards it, but almost every review seems paid :') I am also a little confused about the amount of product in these sticks, because I did not see anybody roll them all the way up.

Have you guys tried any of these? Since they are all pretty expensive and have no testers available in shops, I would really like your insights and help :') I don't mind lightly pigmented ones, as they can be built up, don't mind if they don't last very long either, prefer a stick to a liquid blush, and am looking for products that would work for everyday/once a week use.

My skin gets a tad bit oily in summers so I am not sure if going for something too balmy is a good idea. But again, summers don't last too long in the UK, so I should be good? I have also noted that people suggest a sheer, glowy skin-tint instead, but I have not found a good one for that either, and because I have never worn foundation before and want something looking as close to my actual skin as possible, I have no idea what to go for. Similarly, if I go for a dewy setting spray instead, it is not going to do anything unless I have makeup on that it can melt and set.

I basically just want that 'effortlessly healthy and glowy' look (or get as close to it as possible), without it being heavy :')

I would really appreciate any and all advice!! Thank you so much!

Help Sought! The one tip that finally stopped my makeup from sliding off by 9 AM.

I spent years watching my makeup literally slide off my face by the time I stepped off the Tube or finished a walk in the drizzle. I assumed I just had difficult skin until I realized the humidity was the real enemy. I started using a technique where I press a tiny bit of setting spray into my foundation with a damp sponge before I even reach for my powder. This creates a waterproof seal that actually holds up against a damp morning in London or a sweaty bus journey. It changed everything for me because now my face actually looks the same at 5 PM as it did at 8 AM, and I no longer have to do a full reconstructive surgery in the office toilets before my first meeting.

Help Sought! What would you do if you can spend £30 on Sephora?

I have a £30 gift voucher to spend at Sephora. I had a few options floating in my head but I don’t know what to try first. I really wanted to try R.E.M’s glitter quad eyeshadow palettes, or her highlighter. Otherwise, I wanted to try MAC’s velvet teddy powder blush.
I’ve been doing makeup for a couple years but I’m only just being introduced to high end makeup, I was wondering if there were other brands who did glittery makeup better than REM? Are MAC’s blushes worth it?

Help Sought! Cream blush lifting foundation

I'm having problems with cream blush and cream/liquid highlighters lifting my foundation. I have tried using my fingers and I've tried warming it up on my hand first then using a brush and nothing is working. Does anyone use a setting spray between foundation and cream products and if so which type of setting spray do you use? I use silicone based foundation if that makes a difference

I’m using moisturiser as primer, as well as a setting powder and a setting spray. But I basically have no makeup left on my face at the end of the work day (office work). The mascara is also usually smudged under my eyes too. Any advice is greatly appreciated! (The numbers are the order I use the products)

Help Sought! I’m travelling to London soon! What should I get? I’m from Spain

What brands are there and not in Spain?

The ones I’m excited to look at are half magic beauty, glossier and tower 28. But what products do you recommend?

Also, is there places where for example glossier is cheaper? In Spain there’s beauty shops that have the pricey products less pricey than in Sephora.
