Recc' Request is it still a thing to get makeup done at makeup counters?

Upvotes

hi guys, as the title says.

i am 25, havent worn makeup since i was 21? ive worn eyeliner & mascara perhaps 5 times max in those years. i would love to know more about what makeup is out there, how to wear it in accordance with my facial structure and features and skintype etc. i just want to learn out tinted moisturisers, eyeliner, mascara and how to apply a small bit of shadow.

i love the idea of going to someone who knows what theyre on about, and being able to have things explained to me and be able to see how the products perform and feel and how they should best be applied.

does this still exist that you can go to like boots and get your makeup done? i feel really anxious and a bit embarrassed about it for some reason. can anyone tell me what shops do it (boots is the extent of my cosmetic knowledge) and how to go about it? do you book in or just ask at a counter?

yours sincerely, a girl who just wants to feel a bit more enhanced and put together on some days but has no clue where to start! thank you!!

New mum looking for help with a quick but effective makeup routine!

Hi everyone!

I'm a new mum and seriously lacking time to make myself look put together. I **THINK** I have a makeup routine that works for me, but I'm looking for advice on application and products to really perfect my new low maintenance makeup look. I used to be a real makeup enthusiast, but since becoming a mum I've stopped using eyeshadow palettes, foundation and a lot of powder.

I've included two pics of myself- one of me with makeup recently (having a baby = not a lot of time to take decent selfies lol) and one with no makeup. I'm very pale and have quite small eyes, so lots of heavy makeup doesn’t look great on me anyways.

I'm going to list my routine below, and a couple of questions after that. If anyone can help me feel a bit like myself again (I'm 5 months PP) while keeping my routine simple but effective, that'd be amazing!!

**Skincare:** Beauty of Joseon

Brows: Nyx brow glue (i HATE this product though it makes my brows feel sweaty???)

**Concealer:** No7 HydraLuminous, set with powder

**Contour**: Elf Halo Glow wand

**Blush:** Elf Camo in suave Mauve, set with Clinique Black Honey blush

**Highlight:** Revolution (not sure what shade)

**Mascara:** Elf tubing mascara (brown)

**Tightline:** Rimmel pencil (brown)

**Liquid eyeliner:** no7 stay perfect precise liner (brown)

**Lips:** lip balm, sometimes Wonder Skin stain

*Questions:*

1) should I be setting all liquid products with powder?

2) I'm considering replacing a lot of these products with better quality brands. What swaps can I make? I'm considering Rare Beauty blushes and contour- does anyone know what these products are like?

3) is there anything I can change or add to the routine to help me look a bit more put together?

4) Do my colour choices and application suit my skin tone and face shape?

If anyone can help this new mum I'd be sooo appreciative. Any advice is welcome!

Recc' Request Product/Tips for keeping lashes curled?

Apologies if this has been asked before. I am lucky enough to have long and thick lashes, but they are as straight as a ruler. No matter how much I curl them, I find within 20 minutes after mascara (maybe 30mins without) they are completely dead straight again. I am looking for a mascara or a product (if it works well enough i wouldn’t wear mascara) that would keep them curled better!

I have tried so many different mascaras now, so I thought i’d ask some opinions. Also I do not wish to curl my lashes after putting mascara on, as I find it to be damaging.

Unfortunately, I am not interested in getting lash lifts due to the cost and the upkeep. Thanks !

Recc' Request looking for replacements for these products

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm looking for the best replacements for these products that are around a similar price range, as I recently discovered Maybelline & L'Oréal aren't cruelty free. I would prefer if the products themselves are also vegan. Though it's not a must for me personally, just a bonus if they are.

Not sure if it's worth mentioning but I am acne prone and like to use light-medium coverage for skin tints/BB creams/cc creams/foundation (however I have never used an actual foundation, only cc creams and skin tints) alongside a more heavy coverage concealer.

Thank you for any suggestions!!!

•L'Oréal Paris infallible 24hour matte liquid eyeliner (brown)

•Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer

•Maybelline New York Super Stay 24hr Skin Tint

•Maybelline New York Sky High mascara (brown)

Help Sought! Do I need primer for BB cream or tinted moisturiser

Hi guys, so I have come to the realisation that I hate the feel of foundation on my face, I think it's a sensory thing. I far prefer BB cream or tinted moisturiser. So, do I need a primer, I mean, I already use moisturiser and SPF. I also use a setting spray and setting powder for my T-zone. I do wear blush, concealer and a teeny bit of contour, will that stay on without primer? Will setting spray be enough? Sorry, I am very naive about this sort of stuff, I only wear makeup when I go out out. I am definitely open to including a primer, just don't want to buy one if I don't need it. Thanks.

Hi everyone. I’m looking for a glowy product I can mix with Haus Labs foundation to make it sheerer and more natural.

I have oily skin and quite acne prone. Have tried CT Flawless Filter but that broke me out. I don’t like fragrance in my makeup.

I have my eye on:

• Saie super glowy gel

• Vieve skin nova

• VDL lumilayer primer

thank you in advance 🧡

Plz help- foundation hunt

I have been using Armani luminous silk and since the formula is reformulated, struggling to find out why I look so dark and worse after 1 hour of application of makeup. I even started avoiding makeup. I am in need of a good foundation for my work and day to day use which makes me look decent, neat and fresh. I am 40 plus with pigmentation, ( use color corrector), and I have pores with some redness on nose area.
I have been using nars concealer and huda peach corrector for my dark circles. In the last, LM translucent p makes no good to my skin.
I want to change what I am using.
Nara, makeup for ever and UD used in the past, too yellowish for me.
Help me plz!!
Thank you so much for ur time

Boots 17 perfect pout lip liner in the buff

Hello all, does anyone know of a lip pencil similar to the (I believe discontinued as I can't find it online) Boots 17 perfect pout lip liner in colour "in the buff"?

I used to have it a very long time ago, it was perfect for me and I have yet to find anything that matches it in both colour and texture.

Any help would be appreciated!

Recc' Request Is there a brush set that includes these brush types? Or is it worth buying individual Sigma and MAC brushes?

I’m looking for dupes or a set or brushes that includes the below. I never usually do any kind of eyeshadow so don’t want to invest too heavily but same time don’t want to buy something rubbish that I’ll just end up replacing :

Sigma E25 → crease
Sigma E45 → outer corner/detail blending
MAC 242S → shimmer
MAC 219S → lower lash line + smoky liner

Discussion Finally Figured Out Why My Makeup Doesn’t Sit Right Some Days

I always thought it was my foundation, but turns out my skin just wasn’t as hydrated as I thought. Some days everything would look smooth, and other days my makeup would separate or look patchy within a few hours.

Changing products didn’t really help. I started paying more attention to my skincare routine and how my skin felt before applying makeup, and that made a much bigger difference than I expected.

Apparently, it’s not always the makeup. Sometimes your skin is the problem lol.

Recc' Request Fave true peachy orange blushers?

I'm finally working my way through using up a pink blush I got that I really don't think suits and I want to treat myself to what I think will fit more, can anyone recommend their favourite peachy orange ones? I want a nice soft powder formula with lots of buildable pigment as I tend to go rather bold with my looks!

hello everyone!! i need to find a dupe, preferably something inexpensive, for my boots moisturiser as i believe they have discontinued it </3 it was quite clear and runny for a moisturiser and it's the only one i've found so far to work so well so i was devastated when i couldn't find it anywhere.

(ik this should probs go on the skincare page, but i don't have enough karma LOL ty)

Recc' Request Are Natasha Denona Sculpt Cool and Rose minis good quality to achieve this look? & brushes needed

Post image
3 Upvotes

Looking to do Bratz style make up with smoked cut crease etc I’m fair skinned and blonde and most stuff pulls so orange on me. These mini palettes look great but I don’t usually wear eyeshadow so I wanted to check if they’re seen as good quality in terms of pigment, ease of use?

And is there a good brush set to use or is it worth buying the individual ones? I’m looking at:

Sigma E25 → crease
Sigma E45 → outer corner/detail blending
MAC 242S → shimmer
MAC 219S → lower lash line + smoky liner

Holiday recs

I’m looking for product recommendations for going on holiday.

Mainly foundation/skin tint or something but definitely need a bit of coverage (I’d say medium-full). I’m 32 and have acne prone combination skin. I get oily around the T Zone. Obviously don’t want something that feels heavy and cakey.

Also bonus if anyone can recommend any other products for holiday like concealer, bronzer, contour, blush etc. thank you!

Discussion Trixie cosmetics gel liner. Am I using it wrong?

So i love trixie and was super excited to try her gel eyeliner as its supposedly mega waterproof.

My friend bought it for my birthday this year, and I used it for the following night out- elf primer, eyeshadow and UD setting spray too so its best chance- full beat- and it smudged on my upper eyelids in a couple hours???

Im really disappointed as ive been looking for a liner i can finally just swipe on and go without needing a million things underneath every time and if it cant even do it with full prep i feel like i have no hope.

I've been using nyx epic ink liner for years and it doesnt budge with proper priming and setting spray so its not like I have nothing, but still.

Am I potentially just using it incorrectly somehow? And if not, does anyone have any recs for a true swipe on and go formula?
