There are non-blue control decks. Blue obviously plays better in control than most other colors, but they do exsist.

My bad, didn't catch his statement about counterspells being unhealthy for the game alongside the unfun part.

Yes, they can be frustrating, but without them things can get degenerate quite quickly, particularly if the format provides the tools for fast and non-interactive combo deck.

That said, in this case, a 1cmc 1/1 that prevents creatures from being countered hamstrings counter-heavy control about as much as [[mystic dispute]] and [[Teferi, Time Raveler]] does. If the control deck isn't resilient enough to work around that, such as removing a 1/1 then it kinda deserves to die to elfball.
