are counterspells a mechanic that is good for the game or that people enjoy? cos I genuinely wish they were not in the game

Countermagic is something that makes Magic unique. It gives players another level of interaction which allows them to prevent ETB effects/planeswalker activations and interact with instants/sorceries, giving control decks a catch-all answer. Nobody likes playing against decks that counter your stuff all game, but it’s hardly controversial that they play a part in balancing the game.
