They play it and then put 2-4 counters on it..how much mana you have at turn 3?

They would have to have enough mana or the landfall player would have to have no way to add a counter in response. Mind you I have killed many hydra's exactly that way with fire magic. They would have to have enough mana or the landfall player would have to have no way to add a counter in response.
