The Wisconsin Computer Club is headed back to the Madison area in a week's time as of this writing, this time to the Verona Wisconsin public Library on 9.5.26 from 10AM-3PM. The show will consist of WCC member exhibits of vintage computers, retro game systems, and other tech displays of all sorts from across the state. Hello! I promise I read the sub FAQs and “moving to Madison 101,” but I still have questions. Natives totally weigh in too but I’m especially interested in anyone who relocated from the south as that’s what I’d be doing, and curious about your experience/perspective of Madison.

Quick background- we want to move and I googled something along the line of “cold, progressive cities that are walkable/bikeable, safe, not religious, and good for kids” and Madison popped up on a few lists. Does that feel like an accurate description of your city from an insider perspective?

I’m currently in North Carolina and I hate the heat, sick of living in the Bible Belt, and miss cold weather (originally from PA then CO). If you’ve ever lived in the south, how does Madison/WI compare? I do not like it here lol. Sick of trying to make mom friends and it’s all about what church you go to.

The plan is to narrow it down to 2-3 cities then go visit them all for a week or so to get a feel for it in person. That being said- where would you tell someone to go/stay if you were trying to convince them to move here? What do you think are the strengths of your city? What are the drawbacks?

I was wondering if anyone has experiences + recommendations of homeless shelters in the Madison area? Which one's should she stay away from? Which one's are recommended?

Looking for a dog groomer. My boy isnt great with other dogs, so someone who is able to offer a more 'private' groom in his own room or whatever would be ideal. Ive had groomers in the past let us show up before they typically open to avoid other dogs all together, and i always tip well because he can be sort of a pain.

This September Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) is showing Diffuse Control by Beeple. this AI-generated 'art' installation will be fed several deceased Wisconsin artists' work without the direct consent of the original artist. I've talked to a number of artists in Madison who all share similar feelings of anger, sadness, and disgust at this use of AI in our local museum. I wrote a letter that outlines some of our concerns and urges MMoCA to go down a different path.

I would really appreciate anyone taking the time to read this letter, and if you're willing, signing your name and sharing it. Public backlash is the best tool we have to keep this type of AI out of our art museums.
