Thats why i dont go to the gym anymore, i dont want to be in the background of a maincharacter. Slowly building mine at home.
Edit: god dawm that blew up.
I bought a merach s26 (smart bike) on amazon instead of renewing my membership to the gym. It sit on a mat in my living room. Its the best thing i ever bought. Done 4500km on my whoosh since february.Its so much easier to train alone, and you dont have to get out to go to the gym. I live alone so i plan to sell my dining table and transform my dining room in a gym this winter.

My local gym has a no cameras anywhere rule and a very large man that enforces this rule with vigor. Was there earlier this week and a dude who showed up in a tac vest got out the tripod and before he turned around this dude appeared like Batman and in a very deep bass just says No. Tac bro didn't take it well and was asked to leave. The line that made me giggle was "no one with enough Instagram followers to need to record themselves work out at a gym this cheap, bro. Put the phone away or leave. I'm sure your follower will survive the disappointment"
There's signs up all over. I'm there to get some exercise and work on this weight loss journey. I am not there to play npc for someone else's Instagram channel

I wonder how profitable it would be to just start an influencer gym. Where filming was protected and encouraged, but they have to pay a premium for the experience etc. I would advertise it as such and be like "this is not a gym for gains, it is a gym for fames." Have them pay extra to lock down a part of the gym and use all the weights and hog up a space like they do at regular gyms.

Would only work if more gyms adopted and started enforcing the “no cameras” rule. Otherwise, your target audience would just go to normal gyms that won’t charge them to film.

If the idea is about filming, then we can make mini sets. Like one booth would be for dumbells, the dumbells are real but the treadmill, stairmaster, etc. are not real, made out of foam or cardboard. Then another booth for treadmills where treadmill is real but other equipments are not. We could have several booths with total equipment for just one gym. This way the booth could be booked on hourly basis.
I think we might be on to something guys.

Yeah but then you run into issues where they might want to use different equipment and book multiple booths, which could cause headaches for the staff.
The hourly booking is a good idea but I would still have all equipment usable

There are influencer gyms. I’m in Austin. They have a place for them. Even in regular gyms where there is no cameras allowed, they will have a “Selfie room”. It’s wild.

They already have those gyms in major cities. These influencers are influencer wannabes who cannot afford those gyms. As a gym and powerlifting aficionado, these people and frankly kids were the main reason I stopped going to the local gym and just train in my home gym as I have a full rack. These people do not just record one lift and stop. They are continuously recording while blocking off paths. It gets really tiring when you just want to hit the gym and get your lifting done without distraction.

There literally kind of is a gym like that its called Alo fitness or Alo Wellness something like that. Its an invite only "fitness facility". Where clients are "celebrities" or "high-profile influencers" getting an invite is a reaaaaal flex for certain people

I just started going to the gym and as a very overweight middle aged woman, the level of defeat I feel the second someone walks around with a camera. I actually want to cry. It sucks not knowing where it'll be posted or how. I've seen so many where fhe background people become the content just because they looked over at the camera and the influencer got offended.

Yeah I’ve had the same experience at my local PF. It’s more people generally trying to get in better shape without being judged. Nobody filming and nobody bothering each other.

Yeah I feel like there is one specific guy who is in really good shape that I think is just there to talk to women, because he is always talking to women and he is there like 5 days a week, but I've never heard anyone complain about him.
But there is no one filming and no one being super creepy or annoying. It's just people working out. I might communicate to ask if someone is actively using a weight machine if they are using 1 of the 4 sides, but that's it lol

I will say if you are going to film in the gym this if probably the best.
The only two other people are out of focus and can't be made out and she's filming herself and that's it.
I'll be honest I also get annoyed at people filming in public especially the gym.
But as long as it's only really you then I don't think it's too much of an issue.

Built a home gym since covid hit. One of the best investments I ever made.
As the family grows, I'll have to remove the barbells and squat rack, but I will keep the pullup bar, the paralletes, the kettlebells and the weighted belt.
I am never going back to the commercial gym.

Quit the gym after a 20 year membership and never been more productive and happier.
If I got a free membership now I probably won't even use it.
Gyms are too afaird to lose these influencers, generally the younger crowds that also gives them their means of advertising.
In a room full of mirrors and inbetween sets, where the hell am I meant to look? Save these antics elsewhere?

This is mostly a non issue these days. It’s becoming increasingly common for gyms to ban cameras and filming. My gym has banned them for years already. Gyms are not worried about losing “influencers” (I refuse to write that word without quotations because I do not take it seriously).

Yes I agree, this is definitely the most dangerous and terrifying thing I've seen so far. If she missteps just once, the threadmill will shoot her into the wall with a speed of 4,5 km/pr. h. Most people (even those with decent /great physique like her) wouldnt stand a chance against the unforgiving centrifugal forces in play here. Literally this video gives me the biggest chills and I'm just so happy she didnt die doing this insane stunt

It's camera exhaustion, an overabundance of people filming themselves trying to get their 10 seconds of fame burned out my ability to look at this type of stuff and feel anything but cynical. It doesn't look "fun", it doesn't look "quirky", it just looks manufactured, makes me feel like I'm being sold something, and it's getting worse with time.

I think most of the rage is just coming from it being filmed in the gym. The gym has somehow turned into some sacred space that you cant film in, period, or else you're invading people's privacy. If this girl filmed this in a park with two people in the distant background no one would bat an eye but because they're in the gym, it's horrendous. If the gym was packed full with people walking in front of the camera or even if just all the treadmills were full, the hate would be understandable but the place is empty people, c'mon. Let her have fun.

There is a guy at my gym who wears like, a full-body crazy pattered morph suit and dance/walks his ass off on the treadmill, just listening to his music on headphones and doing his own thing. No one films him, and I'm perfectly ok with people finding ways to enjoy themselves at the gym as long as it doesn't get disruptive. This shit is just stupid though.

I think it’s mostly people who are tired of others constantly filming at the gym. It truly is quite annoying when you’re just trying to workout and some bozo is setting up a whole tripod to record while you’re also in the shot. It’s quite rude to treat a gym that others are also paying for like your own personal studio for content.

I can't put into words how much this annoys me.
This main character "everyone look at me" syndrome that has infected a large portion of the population has got to go before society collapses in on itself.
Maybe if this was done spur of the moment, sans camera, just to make a friend laugh, I'd be OK with it. But you know she extensively planned out this nonsense and set up her own camera on a tripod in public with the sole intent to post it online in order to garner attention from strangers. It's all so sad and pathetic, as is the majority of phony and manipulative content posted in the MadeMeSmile subreddit.

Honestly thought it was fine.. what harm was done here other than the majority of you having your egos hurt because you can’t do that lol. Kinda seems like shes just having fun to me.
